Peter Johngrass, Sr. 92, of Hillsville, Pa. passed away the evening of March 29, 2013 at Jameson Southpointe. Born in New Castle on May 15, 1920, Peter was the son of the late Vito and Josephine Bonura Johngrass. Preceding him in death on October 18, 2012 is his wife the former Rose Rydosz, whom he married on August 2, 1945. Peter was veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. After thirty five years, he retired from Bessemer Cement where he worked as a millwright. Peter was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed watching boxing and gardening. He loved traveling to Arizona and cherished the times he spent with his family. Survivors include his children, Victor G. Johngrass of New Middletown, OH; Peter Johngrass, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona; Rosemary Kennedy of Hubbard, OH; Andrew Johngrass of Bessmer, PA; Paul Johngrass and his wife Karen of New Castle; Carol Jasen and her husband Steve of New Castle; brother, James Johngrass of Hillsville; sisters, Rose Greco of Hillsville; Mary Hurd of Boardman, Oh; Nancy Brooks of Austintown, OH; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Peter is preceded in death by his brothers, Sam Johngrass, infant Phillip and infant Peter Johngrass and two sisters, Jenny Johngrass and Jane Johngrass. Visitation is Tuesday from 11AM to 1PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St followed by a service at 1PM at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Richard Johngrass, grandson of Peter. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home. Mary L. Patrick, 78, of Richlieu Ave. passed away the evening of April 7, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on September 27, 1934, Mary was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Florence Grace Shira McFall. Preceding her in death on July 11, 1998 is her husband Harry G. Patrick, Sr. who she married on November 19, 1960. She was a member of the New Castle Bible Church. Mary enjoyed reading and cherished the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her three children, Harry Patrick, Jr., Michele J. Patrick, Gary K. Patrick, all of New Castle; two brothers, Robert McFall of Warren, OH; William McFall of Hawaii; two sisters, Constance McCollums and Sandra McFall, both of New Castle and three grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her four brothers, Henry, Francis, Richard and Samuel McFall and her two sisters, Geraldine McFall Fair and Eileen McFall Stephenson. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Thursday at the New Castle Bible Church 2762 W. State St. officiated by Rev. Max Bungard.

Theresa M. Antonelli, 85, of Randolph St. passed away the morning of April 9, 2013 at her residence. Born in New Castle on April 26, 1927, Theresa was the daughter of the late Archie V.,Sr. and Amelia Scocchera Cumo. Preceding her in death on August 27, 1985, is her husband Reginald Antonelli who she married on April 26, 1947. In earlier years, Theresa had worked as a clerk for Troutman’s Department Store. She was a devoted and active member of St. Joseph the Worker Church and it’s Mary Martha Guild where she was past president. She was in charge of the mercy dinners at the church, served as trustee, worked with the food pantry and directed the All Souls Day Memorial Service. Theresa was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a founding and active member of the Widows Group. She enjoyed cooking, baking and playing bingo. Theresa had volunteered at Jameson Hospital. Survivors include her sons, Gary Antonelli and his wife Kathy of Hubbard, OH; Gerald Antonelli and his wife Julie of Canonsburg, PA; her brother, Archie V. Cumo, Jr. of New Castle; her sisters, Florence Geibel, Jean Kuczor, both of New Castle; Bernice Quinn and her husband Fred of Toledo, OH; three grandchildren, Chris, Joey and Nicky Antonelli, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Theresa is preceded in death by her two sisters, Angeline Halagian and Gloria Gooley. Lawrence Sergi, 72, of Oakridge Trail passed away the morning of April 9, 2013 at his residence in Evans City, Pa. Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 13, 1940, Lawrence was the son of the late Charles and Vera Ciaburri Sergi. Surviving is his loving wife, Mary who he married in 1966. Lawrence was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Manhasset, NY. He was a retired insurance investigator. Lawrence enjoyed traveling with his wife and cherished the times he spent with his daughters and grandsons. Lawrence was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his two loving daughters, Christine and her husband Jeff Gillow of Castle Rock, CO; Andrea and her husband Tom Piccione, Jr. of Chippewa Township, PA; and his two grandsons, Thomas Michael Piccione III and Christopher Lawrence Piccione. In addition to his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by his beloved brother, Andrew Sergi. Walter Slagle
New Wilmington resident Walter R. Slagle, 79, of Old Pulaski Rd, passed away on the evening of April 9, 2013 at Edison Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Boggs Township, Armstrong County, PA on July 24, 1933 to the late Herbert and Hazel Austin Slagle. He married Margaret McMasters on July 24, 1970 who passed away on June 23, 1996. He retired from The Tavern after working for 30 years as a chef. He was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors and cooking. Walter is survived by his son Chris Slagle and wife Jennifer of Solon, OH, three brothers, Herbert “Carl” Slagle; Harold “Butch” Slagle; and Robert “Bob” Slagle, sister Ruth Eckman, and a step-granddaughter Emma. Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother Charles “Bud” Slagle and sister Pauline Hankey. Raymond Slack
Raymond Slack, 84, of W. North St. passed away the morning of April 9, 2013 at Edison Manor Rehabilitation Center. Born in New Castle on October 28, 1928, Raymond was the son of the late Leslie and Laura Stewart Slack. Surviving is his wife, the former Berdena L. Anderson who he married on September 18, 1947. He was a member of Calvary Independent Church. Raymond retired from Sparmon Fischler Company where he worked in the warehouse. He was an avid video enthusiast and cherished the times he spent with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Reed of New Castle; three grandchildren, Todd Reed, Shaun Reed and Brandi Reed and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Walter and John Slack and his sister, Alice Ramsey. Former New Castle resident, Sandra Trimble, 72, passed away the morning of April 14, 2013 at the White Oak Manor in Warren, Ohio. Born in New Castle on November 24,1940, Sandra was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Rose Dinafore Fusco. She is survived by her nephew, Joseph Fusco and his wife Staicy of New Castle. Rosemary Lombardo
Rosemary L. Lombardo, 85, of Terrace North Lane passed away the morning of April 17, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on September 29, 1927, Rosemary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Capitola Factor. Preceding her in death on October 28, 1991 is her husband, Paul A. Lombardo, Jr. who she married on September 10, 1948. Rosemary was a member of St. Vitus Church. She was a 1945 graduate of Ne Ca Hi and a graduate of the New Castle Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. In August of 1963 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University. Rosemary retired in 1989 as a Registered Nurse from the New Castle Area School District and the Neshannock Area School District after fifty years of service. In earlier years Rosemary enjoyed visiting their summer cottage at Sandy Lake. She also enjoyed yard sales, reading and was a usher at the New Castle Area Playhouse for many years. Rosemary cherished the times with her daughter and attending her grandchildren’s activities. Surviving is her daughter, Bonnie Carlin and her husband Tim of New Castle; sister-in-law, Chloe Buckner, brother-in-law, Jerry Lombardo, Sr. both of New Castle; and her grandchildren, Patrick Hannay of Pittsburgh and Elizabeth Rose Habarka and her husband Joseph of Hubbard, Oh. Dr. Nancy Lamancusa
Nancy Cecelia Lamancusa, MD, 82, of Angela Lane passed away April 16, 2013 at her residence in New Castle. She was born in New Castle on May 23, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank and Antonia DiBlasi Lamancusa. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Dr. Lamancusa was a 1948 graduate of New Castle High School, 1952 graduate of Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University. From 1952-1953 she participated in an Externship with Dr. Mildred Rogers, General Practitioner. In 1957 she graduated from the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania earning her Medical Degree. She was the fourth woman physician to practice in Lawrence County in the 20th century and delivered over 500 babies at Jameson Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Lamancusa retired June 30, 2001 after forty two years of an active Family Practice including rounds at both New Castle Hospitals. She was the Past President of the Medical Staff of St. Francis Hospital and the Past President and member of the Lawrence County Medical Society. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, AMA and the American and Pennsylvania Association of Family Practice. She was actively involved in the community as a Charter Member and Organizer of the Visiting Nurses Association of Lawrence County, School Physician for New Castle Area Schools, New Castle Business College and former Physician to the Sacred Heart Sisters of St. Vitus Church. She was Past President and Board Member of the 4H Development Fund, Charter member of the New Castle Charter Commission and Charter Writer of the Third Class City Code for New Castle. Dr. Lamancusa was a 1965 Outstanding Young Women of America and a 1970 Who’s Who of American Women. After retirement, “Dr. Nancy” as she was known by her patients, colleagues and the community, maintained involvement with certain loyal patients house calls and by attendance at their hospitalizations and surgeries as a patient advocate. She was currently one of five directors of the Lawrence County Medical Society and Chairperson of the By Laws Committee to rewrite the By Laws of the Medical Society. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan and valued the friendship of the late Chuck Tanner and his family. Dr. Lamancusa will be sadly missed by her family and all the people who knew and loved her. Survivors include her brother, Carmen F. Lamancusa and his wife Loretta of New Castle; her nephews and niece, Frank G. Lamancusa and his wife Elizabeth, Laurel Ann Logsdon and her husband John, Joshua D. Lamancusa and his wife Amy and six great nieces and great nephews. Jeffrey Crothers, 56, of Edison Manor passed away April 15, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. He was born January 21, 1957 in New Castle and was the son of the late Dennis A. and Darlene M. Brown Crothers. Joyce L. Tedrow, 65, of S. Beaver St. passed away the morning of April 19, 2013 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. Joyce was born in Beaver Falls, Pa. on April 25, 1947. Surviving is her loving husband, Martin P. Tedrow, Sr. who she married on June 15, 1968. She retired from Edison Manor where she had worked as a Nurses Aide. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her family was very important to her. She cherished the times she spent with all of them. She is survived by her three children, Paula Mahoney and her husband James of Pulaski; Joyce Main and her fiancé Curt Cottrill of New Castle; Martin P. Tedrow, Jr. and his wife Rachael of New Castle; her sister, Diane Tedrow of Chewton, Pa; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Samuel Russo, 75, of N. Cedar St. passed away the morning of April 22, 2013 at his residence. Born in New Castle on July 13, 1937, Sam was the son of the late Joseph (Lefty) and Elizabeth Gangliero Russo. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Sam retired from Bessemer Cement Company. Sam was known to enjoy spending time visiting with his many friends and having coffee at different local restaurants. Sam is survived by his sister, Joan Russo of New Castle. Adele Goodman
Adele Goodman, 48, of State Rt. 18, New Castle passed away the afternoon of April 21, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman, Ohio. Born on August 17, 1964 in Framingham, MA., Adele was the daughter of Albert Malanche and Adele Rouzaut. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives. She is also survived by her step father, Charles H. Ladd, Jr. Surviving at home is her husband, Todd Goodman who she married on February 28, 1992. Adele enjoyed couponing and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. In addition to her husband, Adele is survived by her three children, Andrea Goodman, Danielle Goodman, Mary Goodman, all of New Castle; her brother, Charles H. Ladd, III of Shrewsberry, NJ; and her granddaughter, Kayleigh Trover. A Memorial Service will be announced once finalized.
Wallace Penny
Wallace I. Penny, 82, of McGary Rd. passed away the afternoon of April 23, 2013 at his residence in New Wilmington. Born in Alexandria, LA on May 21, 1930, Wallace was the son of the late Ivy and Leala Penny. Preceding him in death on March 6, 2011 is his wife, the former Barbara M. (Babs) Knobloch who he married on July 1, 1950. He was a veteran of the US Army Special Forces. Wallace was the owner of P & G Welded Products and Wilmington Steel & Construction Incorporated, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local No. 3 in Pittsburgh. Wallace was also a member of the New Castle Country Club and the Lawrence Club. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He is survived by his two children, Steve Penny and his wife Julie of New Castle; Pamela Page and her husband Phillip of Yardley, Pa; and his brother, Billy Penny of Valdosta, GA. In addition to his parents and wife, Wallace is preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Woodson. Brian E. Tanner, 43, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of April 25, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. He was born December 29, 1969 in New Castle and was the son of Joseph, Sr. and Sandra L. Weatherby Zarilla. Mr. Tanner was a certified welder and certified mason. He was a 1988 graduate of Lawrence County Vo-Tech. Brian enjoyed camping, fishing and country music. He loved his family and spending time with them. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Brian C. Tanner and Aaron Tanner both of Chicora, PA; stepbrother, Joseph Zarilla, Jr. of West Virginia; sister, Jodi Zarilla-Zoltani of New Castle and nephew, Dan Zoltani II. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Sylvia Weatherby and Vincenzo and Josephine Zarilla. Katherine A. Cicco, 86, of Seneca Way; formerly of S. Cascade Street passed away the evening of April 26, 2013 in Jameson Care Center. She was born February 25, 1927 in Ellwood City and was the daughter of the late Stephen and Evelyn Campbell Kolitz. On September 27, 1947 she married her husband, the late Carmen F. Cicco who preceded her in death July 4, 1997. Mrs. Cicco was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Katherine enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved the time spent with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Berkoben and husband Kenneth of New Kensington and Karan Cowher and husband Thomas of New Castle; one grandchild, Dr. Michael Cowher and wife Tiffany and two great grandchildren, Keira and Ava. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Binko, Grace Buckholtz and Shirley Weir. Lucy Costa Habib 84, of 702 E Edgewood Ave, passed away the morning of Tuesday April 30th, 2013 at home. She lost her battle with cancer but fought bravely. She was born July 28th,1928, in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Rose Glorioso Costa. She was married to Tommy Habib, who preceded her in death February 16th 1970. Lucy had a long and fun career at Shenango China in the lining department. She was a member of St. Vitus Church and the Christian Mothers group. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends,especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan and bled black and gold. Lucy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tammy Habib of Middletown Ohio; her daughter and son-in-law Rosemary and Rusty Relic of New Castle; a brother, Sam Costa of New Castle; two sisters, Theresa Simonetti of Stanton,CA., and Rose Conti of New Castle; and four grandchildren, Wendy, Angelina, William and Tommy, in addition she has two great grandchildren, Grayson and Davie. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her one son, Gary, four brothers, Carmen, Joseph, John and Tom Costa; her two sisters, Lena Leymarie and Louise Benincase and her companion, Alphonse “Chick” Rozzi. Joseph Testa
Joseph F. Testa, Jr.,69, of Dean Dr. passed away on April 30, 2013 at the Butler VNA Hospice. Born in New Castle on September 27, 1943, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Edith Elisco Testa. He is survived by his loving companion and best friend of twenty nine years, Penny Panziani of New Castle. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korea War Era. He had worked at Universal Rundle as a castor. He was a expert marksman and a avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and boating. Joseph also loved being around animals, especially dogs. In addition to his companion, Penny, Joseph is survived by his brother, Anthony Testa of New Castle; two sisters, Diane Esposito, Edie Testa, both of Erie, PA; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and his long time friend, Calvin Wynn. Shirley J. Kerr, 82, formerly of Meegan Ave. in New Castle, passed away the evening of April 27, 2013 at Sharon Regional Hospital. Born in New Castle on September 15, 1930, Shirley was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Pauline Lowry Wolthers. Preceding her in death on September 12, 2006 is her husband, William N. Kerr who she married on May 13, 1950. She was a member of the Church of Genesis. Shirley retired from the Radiology Department at St. Francis Hospital where she worked as a secretary. Prior to that she had worked for Treasure Island Department Store. Shirley enjoyed camping and bowling. She cherished the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her two children, Robert W. Kerr of Hermitage; Brenda L. Coonce of Hermitage; her brothers, Lester Wolthers of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Chester Wolthers of New Castle; three grandchildren, Robert Kerr II, Michael Kerr, Nicole Unrue and her husband Mike and her four great-grandchildren, Katelynn Kerr, Michaela Unrue, Mikenna Unrue and Mykah Kerr. Born in New Kensington, Pa. on August 30, 1954, William was preceded in death by his father, William L. Beighley. He is survived by his mother, June Scott Beighley Smith of Freedom, Pa. On December 1, 1980, William married his loving wife, the former Renee Lucchetti. William worked as a independent truck driver. He enjoyed motorcycles, the outdoors and loved working in his yard. In addition to his mother and wife, William is survived by his children, Casey Marsh of Seattle, WA; Chelsey Beighley of New Castle and his step-sister, Holly Smith of Freedom, Pa. There will be no calling hours or services.
