James V. Latess, Sr., 91, of Harbor Edinburg Rd. passed away the evening of May 1, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on January 30, 1922, James was the son of the late John and Lillian Tesone Latess. Preceding him in death on December 8, 2004 is his wife, the former Mary A. DiMatteo who he married on November 25, 1948. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. James was a WWII Army veteran serving at Pearl Harbor. James retired from Sharon Steel where he worked as a millwright for over thirty years. He enjoyed cooking and gardening. He is survived by his five children, Diann Pitzer and her husband Don of New Castle; James Latess, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Edinburg; Rita Bartholomew and her husband Jeffrey of Edinburg; John Latess of Stafford, VA; Angie Latess of Hopewell, PA; two sisters, Betty Steve, Helen Galiano, both of New Castle; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents and wife, James is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Latess and two sisters, Mary Jane Courtright and Ida Bonfield. Visitation is Saturday from 10AM to 12Noon at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 12Noon officiated by Deacon John Carran. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Castle View Memorial Gardens.

Richard E. Reca, 82, of Grange Rd. passed away the morning of May 5, 2013 at the Butler VA Hospital. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 20, 1931, Richard was the son of the late Edward B. and Stella Petriski Reca. Surviving is his wife, the former Carol Reitz who he married on March 22, 1996. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Force and served during the Korean War. He retired in 1983 from Western Union where he worked as a computer technician. Richard loved sailing and had sailed the Caribbean Sea. He was a artist and enjoyed painting and gardening. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his sister, Bonnie Koch of Beaumont,CA; his granddaughter, Brooke Jones of Lakewood, OH; and his great-grandchild, Tabitha Jones. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his son, Richard Patrick Reca. Visitation is Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 12PM to 1PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the funeral home. Charles P. Bromley, 81, 103 W. Elizabeth Street passed away the morning of May 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born January 14, 1932 in New Castle and was the son of the late Benjamin and Pauline Ferguson Bromley. Mr. Bromley retired from Mesta Machine Corp. where he worked as a time keeper. He loved animals, especially his dog. Charles enjoyed gardening and working around his house. He is survived by three sons, Charles (Mick) Bromley and wife Dixie, John (Tim) Bromley and wife Lisa and Dan Bromley and fiance Tammy Hanshaw all of New Castle and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory David Bromley. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. Shirley L. Heath, 80, of Morris Street passed away the afternoon of May 8, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. She was born February 11, 1933 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Louis and Julia Fleeger Slovonsky. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Alfonzo Heath. Mrs. Heath was a homemaker. She enjoyed walking and playing bingo. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by five children, Terry Elmore, Peggy Callahan and husband Jerry, Sheila Bable and husband Brian, Steve Heath and wife Cindy and William Heath and wife Chasity all of New Castle; brother, Ronald Slovonsky of New Castle; eighteen grandchildren and thirty two great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Slovonsky; four sisters Donna Jean Slovonsky, Betty Marshall, Delores Hoon and Katherine Barbati and a grandson, Freedom Callahan. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A service will be held Friday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Berdena Slack, 85, of W. North St passed away on the evening of May 4, 2013 at Edison Manor Rehabilitation Center. She was born in New Castle to the late James and Helen Trimble Anderson on November 6, 1927. She married the late Raymond Slack on September 18, 1947 who passed away on April 9, 2013. Berdena was a member of the Calvary Independent Church. She was a member of the Awana Club and the choir for the church. She had previously worked as a waitress at the Fountain Restaurant. In her free time, Berdena enjoyed working on puzzles and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Reed of New Castle; three grandchildren, Todd Reed, Shaun Reed, and Brandi Reed; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Milton Anderson. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 12PM to 1PM at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A service will be held on Saturday at 1PM at the funeral home where Reverend Charles Fombell, pastor of the Calvary Independent Church, will officiate. Internment will be private.

Born in New Castle on November 24,1940, Sandra was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Rose Dinafore Fusco. She is survived by her nephew, Joseph Fusco and his wife Staicy of New Castle. Rosemary Lombardo

Rosemary L. Lombardo, 85, of Terrace North Lane passed away the morning of April 17, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on September 29, 1927, Rosemary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Capitola Factor. Preceding her in death on October 28, 1991 is her husband, Paul A. Lombardo, Jr. who she married on September 10, 1948. Rosemary was a member of St. Vitus Church. She was a 1945 graduate of Ne Ca Hi and a graduate of the New Castle Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. In August of 1963 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University. Rosemary retired in 1989 as a Registered Nurse from the New Castle Area School District and the Neshannock Area School District after fifty years of service. In earlier years Rosemary enjoyed visiting their summer cottage at Sandy Lake. She also enjoyed yard sales, reading and was a usher at the New Castle Area Playhouse for many years. Rosemary cherished the times with her daughter and attending her grandchildren’s activities. Surviving is her daughter, Bonnie Carlin and her husband Tim of New Castle; sister-in-law, Chloe Buckner, brother-in-law, Jerry Lombardo, Sr. both of New Castle; and her grandchildren, Patrick Hannay of Pittsburgh and Elizabeth Rose Habarka and her husband Joseph of Hubbard, Oh. Dr. Nancy Lamancusa

Nancy Cecelia Lamancusa, MD, 82, of Angela Lane passed away April 16, 2013 at her residence in New Castle. She was born in New Castle on May 23, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank and Antonia DiBlasi Lamancusa. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Dr. Lamancusa was a 1948 graduate of New Castle High School, 1952 graduate of Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University. From 1952-1953 she participated in an Externship with Dr. Mildred Rogers, General Practitioner. In 1957 she graduated from the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania earning her Medical Degree. She was the fourth woman physician to practice in Lawrence County in the 20th century and delivered over 500 babies at Jameson Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Lamancusa retired June 30, 2001 after forty two years of an active Family Practice including rounds at both New Castle Hospitals. She was the Past President of the Medical Staff of St. Francis Hospital and the Past President and member of the Lawrence County Medical Society. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, AMA and the American and Pennsylvania Association of Family Practice. She was actively involved in the community as a Charter Member and Organizer of the Visiting Nurses Association of Lawrence County, School Physician for New Castle Area Schools, New Castle Business College and former Physician to the Sacred Heart Sisters of St. Vitus Church. She was Past President and Board Member of the 4H Development Fund, Charter member of the New Castle Charter Commission and Charter Writer of the Third Class City Code for New Castle. Dr. Lamancusa was a 1965 Outstanding Young Women of America and a 1970 Who’s Who of American Women. After retirement, “Dr. Nancy” as she was known by her patients, colleagues and the community, maintained involvement with certain loyal patients house calls and by attendance at their hospitalizations and surgeries as a patient advocate. She was currently one of five directors of the Lawrence County Medical Society and Chairperson of the By Laws Committee to rewrite the By Laws of the Medical Society. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan and valued the friendship of the late Chuck Tanner and his family. Dr. Lamancusa will be sadly missed by her family and all the people who knew and loved her. Survivors include her brother, Carmen F. Lamancusa and his wife Loretta of New Castle; her nephews and niece, Frank G. Lamancusa and his wife Elizabeth, Laurel Ann Logsdon and her husband John, Joshua D. Lamancusa and his wife Amy and six great nieces and great nephews. Visitation is Friday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Surviving is her loving husband, Martin P. Tedrow, Sr. who she married on June 15, 1968. She retired from Edison Manor where she had worked as a Nurses Aide. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her family was very important to her. She cherished the times she spent with all of them. She is survived by her three children, Paula Mahoney and her husband James of Pulaski; Joyce Main and her fiancé Curt Cottrill of New Castle; Martin P. Tedrow, Jr. and his wife Rachael of New Castle; her sister, Diane Tedrow of Chewton, Pa; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Shoaff and her brother, Don Shoaff. There are no calling hours or services planned.

Born in New Castle on July 13, 1937, Sam was the son of the late Joseph (Lefty) and Elizabeth Gangliero Russo. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Sam retired from Bessemer Cement Company. Sam was known to enjoy spending time visiting with his many friends and having coffee at different local restaurants. Sam is survived by his sister, Joan Russo of New Castle. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Russo and Eugene (Barney) Russo. Born on August 17, 1964 in Framingham, MA., Adele was the daughter of Albert Malanche and Adele Rouzaut. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives. She is also survived by her step father, Charles H. Ladd, Jr. Surviving at home is her husband, Todd Goodman who she married on February 28, 1992. Adele enjoyed couponing and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. In addition to her husband, Adele is survived by her three children, Andrea Goodman, Danielle Goodman, Mary Goodman, all of New Castle; her brother, Charles H. Ladd, III of Shrewsberry, NJ; and her granddaughter, Kayleigh Trover. A Memorial Service will be announced once finalized.

Wallace I. Penny, 82, of McGary Rd. passed away the afternoon of April 23, 2013 at his residence in New Wilmington. Born in Alexandria, LA on May 21, 1930, Wallace was the son of the late Ivy and Leala Penny. Preceding him in death on March 6, 2011 is his wife, the former Barbara M. (Babs) Knobloch who he married on July 1, 1950. He was a veteran of the US Army Special Forces. Wallace was the owner of P & G Welded Products and Wilmington Steel & Construction Incorporated, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local No. 3 in Pittsburgh. Wallace was also a member of the New Castle Country Club and the Lawrence Club. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He is survived by his two children, Steve Penny and his wife Julie of New Castle; Pamela Page and her husband Phillip of Yardley, Pa; and his brother, Billy Penny of Valdosta, GA. In addition to his parents and wife, Wallace is preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Woodson. Weatherby Zarilla. Mr. Tanner was a certified welder and certified mason. He was a 1988 graduate of Lawrence County Vo-Tech. Brian enjoyed camping, fishing and country music. He loved his family and spending time with them. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Brian C. Tanner and Aaron Tanner both of Chicora, PA; stepbrother, Joseph Zarilla, Jr. of West Virginia; sister, Jodi Zarilla-Zoltani of New Castle and nephew, Dan Zoltani II. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Sylvia Weatherby and Vincenzo and Josephine Zarilla. She was born January 2, 1924 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rose Marie Cavalier Germani. In 1942 she married her husband, John D. Ferry. He preceded her in death April 6, 1986. Mrs. Ferry worked for 19 years for Gaylords Department Store. She enjoyed gardening and working around her yard. Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who’s family meant the world to her. They were very important and number one in her life. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Ann is survived by a son, David Ferry and wife Nadine of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Carol Ferry of New Castle; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John M. Ferry; three brothers, Nick, Fred and Albert Germani and a sister, Hilda Dando. Luca Laurenza, 80, of Addis Street passed away the morning of May 19, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. He was born August 28, 1932 in Baia Latina, Caserta, Italy and was the son of the late Carmen and Annina Ginocchi Laurenza. He is survived by his fiance Michele R. Herold. Mr. Laurenza retired in 1985 from Universal Rundle where he worked as a caster. He enjoyed gardening and bocce and played on different local leagues. He also enjoyed wine making and making homemade sausage and cheese. Luca served in the Italain Army and was a member of St. Vitus Church. In addition to his fiance, he is survived by five children, Dante Luca Laurenza at home, Gabriella Laurenza of Finale Ligure, Italy, Rosaria Diaz and husband Luigi of San Diego, CA, Joanna Laurenza of New Castle and Anna Laurenza of New Castle; brother, Alessandro Laurenza and fiance Shirley Bower of Schellsburg; sister, Francesca Bulisco and husband Cosmo of New Castle; nine grandchildren and is also survived by his former wife, Maria Laurenza of New Castle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Luca Pietro Laurenza, Jr.; brothers, Marco, Tomasso, Giovanni and Antonio Laurenza and a sister, Mary Pascarella. James T. Quinn, 56, of King Ave. passed away the morning of May 26, 2013 at his residence. Born in New Castle on January 11, 1957, James is the son of James D. and Marie Smith Quinn. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives and resides in New Castle. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Faye Manos who he married on September 16, 2006. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as an construction worker for Construction and General Labor’s Local No. 964. James was a 1975 graduate of Union High School where he played varsity football. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. James loved his pet dogs, Audrey, Sophie, Oscar and Rossi and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his stepchildren, Ryan Louis of Lahaina Hawaii; Hannah Grace of Brooklyn, NY; three brothers, Donald Quinn and his wife Linda, Chuck Quinn and his wife Shari, Michael Quinn, all of New Castle and several loving nieces and nephews. Michael Natale

Michael A. (Mickey) Natale, Sr., 84, of New Castle passed away peacefully the evening of May 18, 2013 at his residence. He was born November 23, 1928 in New Castle and was the son of the late Frank A. (Tony) and Joana Barone Cea Natale. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Caroline Rozzi whom he married on August 17, 1951. Mr. Natale was a United States Army veteran and served in Fort Ord in California during the Korean War. After 30 years of service, he retired from the US Postal Service as the Postmaster for the Ellwood City branch. During his career at the US Postal Service he helped a lot of people and had many different positions including Personnel Director. Mickey was a member of the AFMU Local 27 and served as a past president and as a past treasurer. He was also a member of the Italian American Defamation League (IADL) and a member of and former officer of the local chapter. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Mr. Natale was a pianist and was a member of the Mickey Natale Trio and The Fun Bunch along with several other jazz bands. He was an avid sports fan and coached pop warner football. He especially was a fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and the Pitt Panthers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Margie Ryan and husband Fred, Julie “Ju-Ju” DeLillo and husband Donald “Dude”, Michael Natale, Jr. and wife Diana and Jana Natale all of New Castle; seven grandchildren; Tony Miller and wife Kristie, Bobbie Lynn Girman and husband Jason, Mark Ryan, Richie Ryan and wife Michelle, Leigh Ann DeCristoforo and husband Sean, Brittany Natale and Michael Natale III and ten great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Natale, Sr. and Eugene Natale and a sister, Irene Leitera. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Father William Siple on Wednesday at 12:30 PM at St. Vitus Church. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:00 Noon for church. Michelle Maxwell Theodorou, 48, of Hamilton St. passed away the evening of May 18, 2013 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on July 27, 1964 in New Castle, Michelle is the daughter of David and Joyce Brown Maxwell. Her parents survive and reside in New Castle. Preceding her in death on June 24, 2000 is her husband Dino Theodorou. Michelle was the co-owner of Dino’s Restaurant. She enjoyed gardening, helping people and loved animals, especially her dog, Febe. Michelle cherished the times she spent with her family and friends, especially her granddaughters, Amara and Ava. In addition to her parents, Michelle is survived by her two daughters, Kayla Theodorou, Alyssa Theodorou, both of New Castle; two brothers, David Maxwell and his wife Melissa, Mark Maxwell and his wife Barbara, both of New Castle; her sister, Kimberly Wajler and her husband Ed of New Castle and her two grandchildren, Amara and Ava. Private services were held on Tuesday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. officiated by Pastor Chad Stoecker of First Assembly of God Church. Burial took place at Castleview Memorial Gardens.
