Gertrude P. Crudell, 89, of Hazelcroft Ave. passed away the morning of February 9, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Texas. Born in Duquesne, Pa. on December 16, 1923, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Dorothy D’Achille Melchiorre. Preceding her in death on November 17, 1998, is her husband, Anthony D. Crudell, whom she married on October 7, 1950. She was a devoted member of St. Camillus Church and it’s Ladies Guild. Gertrude retired from Jameson Hospital where she worked in the linen department. In earlier years, she had worked for Shenango Pottery. She enjoyed baking, cake decorating and sewing. Gertrude cherished the times she spent with her family. Survivors include her son, Donald Crudell of New Castle; her daughter, Denise Hanna of Richland Hills, TX; four sisters, Dolores Delio, Betty Wangler, Josephine Bovo, Jennifer Lombardo, all of New Castle; two grandchildren, William Hanna, Amy Hanna and two great-grandchildren, Chase Sullivan and Madison Sullivan. In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude is preceded in death by her brother Raymond Melchiorre and two sisters, Helen Marcucci and Olga Vitullo. Visitation is Wednesday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9AM for St. Camillus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM. Rev. Father Thomas Lewandowski, pastor of St. Camillus Church will officiate. Entombment will take place at Castle View Memorial Gardens.

Clara Sandora

Clara Sandora, 87, a lifelong resident of Hillsville, Pa., passed away the morning of February 13, 2013, peacefully with her family at her bedside at Jameson Hospital. Born in Hillsville on August 18, 1925, Clara was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Pasqualina Fusco Sandora. She was a member of Christ the King Parish. Clara enjoyed cooking, walking and visiting with her many friends. She cherished spending holidays, birthdays and picnics with her family in Hillsville. Survivors include her sister, Connie McGinnis of Lowellville, Oh; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Clara is preceded in death by her sisters, Teresa Logozzo, Josephine Donatelli, her brothers, Samuel Sandora, Pete Sandora, Andrew Sandora and Angelo Sandora, Sr. and her niece, Patty McGinnis. Visitation is Friday 9AM to 11:45AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 11:45AM For St. Lawrence Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30PM. Rev. Dr. Thomas Q. Malvar, 86, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of February 15, 2013 at his residence. Born on September 5, 1926 in Batangas, Philippines, Dr. Malvar was the son of the late Bernabe and Amelia Quintero Malvar. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Dorothy Fiora whom he married in 1958. He was a member of St. Camillus Church. Dr. Malvar worked as a family physician in New Castle for over fifty years. Retiring in 2011, he had been on the staff of Jameson Hospital and the former St. Francis Hospital in New Castle. As a dedicated and loving physician, he enjoyed his practice and his close relationship with his patients. In addition to his wife, Dr. Malvar is survived by his four children, Thomas M. Malvar and his wife Tracey of Connecticut; Mark A. Malvar of Florida; Ronald L. Malvar and his wife Terilee of Harmony, Pennsylvania; Jennifer L. Bodden and her husband Dozel of Virginia; his sisters, Olga Malvar Achacoso of New York; Naty Malvar Mendoza of the Philippines; Pina Malvar Guzman of California; Tessie Malvar Castillo of the Philippines; his brother, Manuel Malvar of the Philippines and his two grandchildren, Olivia Malvar and Tommy Malvar. In addition to his parents, Dr. Malvar is preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Visitation is Sunday from 2PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. John A. Apecella, Sr., 89, of E. Leasure Ave. passed away the morning of February 19, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on September 29, 1923, John was the son of the late Angelo and Clara Circelli Apecella. Preceding him in death on January 2, 2000, is his wife, the former Lillian Deep, whom he married in 1951. He was a member of St. Elias Orthodox Church. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army. John had worked for the Mesta Machine Company in the tool crib department. He then went on to work for the New Castle School District as an substitute custodian. He was a member of the Duca Degli Abruzzi Club. John was a avid golfer, enjoyed watching football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and visiting casinos. He was devoted husband and father and cherished the times he spent with all of them. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Apecella, his son, John Apecella, Jr., both of New Castle and his sister, Josephine Caravella of West Pittsburg. In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by his sisters, Philomena Apecella, Lena Apecella and his brothers, Dan Apecella, Frank Apecella and Michael (Dem’C) Apecella. Calling hours are Thursday from 4PM to 8PM at St. Elias Orthodox Church 915 Lynn St. New Castle, Pa. 16101. A Trisagion Service will be celebrated at the church on Thursday evening at 7:30PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday at 10AM at the church officiated by Rev. Father Kevin Long, Archpriest of St. Elias Orthodox Church. Burial will take place at St. Nicholas Cemetery.

Richard A. Perrott, Sr. of Hillsville, Pa. died the night of February 19, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Richard was born in New Castle, Pa., the son of the late Dominic and Tresa Latina Perrott. He married the former Laura Deletis who preceded him in death on June 10, 2010. Richard was a member of St. Lawrence Church of Christ the King Parish. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Johnson Club and the Mahoning Sportsman Club. He is survived by his three children, Richard Perrott, Jr. and his wife Sherry of Hillsville; Joyce Weir of New Castle; Dr. Robert Perrott and his wife Diane of New Castle and his four grandchildren, Ashley Weir, Amanda Weir, Stephen Perrott and Emily Perrott. In addition to his parents and wife Laura of fifty eight years, Richard is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anthony and Thresa Deletis. Visitation is Friday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Family and friends will meet at St Lawrence Church on Saturday for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:30AM. Rev. Harriet Tinstman Cain

Life long resident of Martin St., Harriet J. Tinstman Cain, 89, passed away the evening of Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Jameson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her children and caregiver. Harriet was born January 5, 1924 in New Castle to the late Edwin Sweet Tinstman and Cleo Anne McConahy Tinstman. On November 10, 1945 she married Henry E. Kirkwood, later ending in divorce. She married John L. Cain on January 12, 1960 and remained so until his death on June 6, 1988. She was a June graduate of the 1942 class of New Castle High School. Harriet later graduated from the New Castle Business School. Harriet and John owned and operated Cain’s Sunoco, located on Croton Avenue for seven years. They also were distributors for the Watkins Products Company for many years of which most of their customers were Amish. Harriet was a member of the First Presbyterian Church during her childhood. She later attended the Pearson Street Christian Missionary Church and the Dewey Ave. Free Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and a good friend.She had a strong faith in the Lord and looked forward to his calling her to her heavenly home. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, embroidering, bird watching in the yard, spending time with her family and enjoying her two special kitties, Hardhead and Amber. Survivors include her son, William W. Kirkwood, with whom she resided and her daughter, Carolyn K. Cox of New Castle and her devoted friend, Linda Moose. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dr. William M. Tinstman. Upon her request, private services were conducted at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd officiated by Rev. Dennis Bupp. Burial took place at Oak Park Cemetery. Mary M. Kollar, 90, of High Hill Road, Pulaski, PA passed away the morning of February 22, 2013 in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, PA. She was born February 6, 1923 in Youngstown, OH and was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary Sicarik Bukovina. On April 1, 1941, she married her husband, the late Martin Kollar, Jr. He preceded her in death in 1996. Mrs. Kollar was a homemaker. She enjoyed bingo, visiting casinos, gardening and animals. She especially enjoyed working on the family farm. She was always known as “grandma chicken”. Mary was a member of St. James the Apostle Church. She is survived by three children, Margaret Hermann of Youngstown, OH, Joanne Ohlinger and husband Raymond of Pulaski, PA and Martin Kollar III of Pulaski, PA; one sister, Ann Duraney of Camel, OH; six grandchlildren and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, Richard Hermann; daughter-in-law, Joyce Kollar; sister, Margie Mesaros and five brothers, Mike, Joe, Martin, John and Steve Bukovina. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Father James Downs on Monday at 10:30 AM at St. James the Apostle Church, New Bedford, PA. Anthony J. Arena, 59, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of February 26, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born in New Castle on April 21, 1953, Anthony is the son of Christmas J. and Sally Gentile Arena. His father survives in New Castle and his mother preceded him in death. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Ivana Marchionda, whom he married August 6, 1977. Anthony had worked for Reed Oil Company in sales for industrial products. He was a 1971 graduate of Mohawk High School and earned a degree from Youngstown State University in 1975. Anthony enjoyed golfing, hunting and was a member of the Mahoning Sportsman Club. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Ivana, Anthony is survived by his brother, Nicholas Arena of New Castle; his sister, Loretta Cooper and her husband Brian of Edinburg and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anna Vitucci, Tony Marchionda, Mary Marchionda, Luisa Rubino and husband Carlo, Frank Marchionda and wife Sue, Mario Marchionda and wife Angie, Giuseppe Marchionda and wife Karen, Ennio Marchionda and wife Laura, Teresa Holmes and husband Dana and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his mother, Anthony is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Nancy Arena. Michaelene Betty Bondi, 68, of W. Moody Ave. passed away the afternoon of February 25, 2013 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born in New Castle on December 15, 1944, Michaelene was the daughter of the late Andrew and Betty Melder Russell. Preceding her in death on October 19, 2005 is her husband, Joseph Nicholas Bondi, whom she married on April 21, 1961. Michaelene retired from the Bair Foundation in New Wilmington where she worked as a secretary. She enjoyed painting ceramics and cherished the times she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Kim Collins and her husband Steve of Ellicott City, MD; Jodi Jackanich and her husband Paul of Lake Milton, OH; Joseph Bondi of Norfolk, VA; her sister Sue Aysse of Downey, CA; and six grandchildren. Born on December 25, 1926 in New Castle, Nathalene was the daughter of the late Michael and Gieselda Bucci Frabotta. Preceding her in death on June 16 1990 is her husband, Alfred Germani, whom she married on July 11, 1953. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Nathalene enjoyed cooking, sewing and cherished the times she spent with her family. She is survived by her two children, Anna Marie Morrone, Patsy Alfred Germani and his wife Shirley, both of New Castle and her three grandchildren, Michael Morrone and his wife Karen, Richard Morrone, Angela Morrone, two step great- grandchildren, Courtney Lippman and her husband Mike, Holly Sylvester and her two step great-great-granddaughters, Emma and Lydia. In addition to her parents and husband, Nathalene was preceded in death by her grandson, Anthony Morrone, her two brothers, two step-brothers, her two sisters and two step-sisters. George M. Manos, 59, of 1129 Matilda Avenue, New Castle passed away the morning of February 28, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. He was born November 27, 1953 in Washington, DC and was the son of the late George Manos and Thelma Rouchon Manos. He is survived by his wife, the former Paula Vallely. Mr. Manos was self employed and was the owner and operator for many years of George Manos Heating and Cooling. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Andrew Manos of New Castle, stepdaughter, Ashlei Davison and husband, Erik of New Castle; stepmother, Bonita G. Manos of Sharon; grandmother, Lena Manos of New Castle; brother, John Manos and wife Brenda of New Castle; sisters, Patti Cole and husband Ron of Hermitage, Faye Quinn and husband Jim of New Castle, Marlee Juranovich and husband Will of Sharon and Michele Flanagan of Elyria, OH and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Martin Robert Flanagan. Family will receive friends and family on Thursday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle. Dora Costa, 94, of Union Township passed away the morning of March 1, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. She was born July 22, 1918 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Domenick Nocera and Josephine Maglione Nocera. On August 30, 1947 she married her husband, the late Anthony C. (Tony) Costa who preceded her in death September 20, 2001. Mrs. Costa retired from Union Area School District where she worked in the cafeteria. Dora was a member of Eagles Club, Little Flower Club and the Golden Agers. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and a former member of St. Michael’s Church and the church’s Ladies Guild. She enjoyed volunteering at the church including making nut rolls. She also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. Dora is survived by son, Bob Costa of New Castle; daughter, Janis Williams and husband Steven of New Castle; sister, Marie Bove of New Castle; five grandchildren, Aleah Kelly and husband TJ, Stephanie Kelly and husband Joe, Andrew Costa and wife Jane, Michael Costa and wife Sarah all of New Castle and Robert Costa and wife Kari of New Wilmington and seven great grandchildren, Joshua, Carson, Austin, Hunter, George, Alex and Andi. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Thomas Boni; sister, Jennie Bonelli and brothers, Lawrence Nocera, Nick Boni and Sam Nocera. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. Frances E. DiLullo, 96, of Edinburg, Pa. passed away the evening of March 2, 2013 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center in New Middletown, Ohio. Born in New Castle on April 5, 1916, Frances was the daughter of the late Leonard and Rose Bartlone. Preceding her in death on January 8, 1997, is her husband, John A. DiLullo, Jr., whom she married on June 3, 1937. She was a member of St. Lawrence Church, Christ the King Parish. Frances was a homemaker and had worked at the Ravenna Arsenal Plant during WWII. She enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting. Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose family always came first. She is survived by her two children, Ronald L. DiLullo and his wife Judy of Bessemer, Pa; Sandra Mandaglio of Edinburg, Pa; her sister, Carmena Colick of North Lima, OH; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Julius Mandaglio, two sisters, Nina Errera, Mary Lombardo, her brother, Frank Bartlone and her granddaughter Julie Lynn Mandaglio. Visitation is Wednesday from 11AM to 12:30PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. followed by a Blessing Service at 12:30PM at the funeral home. Rev. Charles Harvey McConnell, 81, of Butler, Pa. passed away the evening of Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Butler Veterans Administration Hospital. Born in West Sunbury, Pa. on May 15, 1931, Charles was the son of the late Harvey and Edith Miller McConnell. Preceding him in death on August 24, 2006, is his wife, the former Vera M. Gold, whom he married on September 12, 1953. A sergeant in the U.S. Army, he served fourteen months of combat during the Korean War receiving five battle stars during his four years of service. He retired in 1987 from Verizon Corporation after thirty two years working as a building mechanic starting with the Bell Telephone Company. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Scott of Atlanta, GA; his brother, James McConnell of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Janet Beier of Panama City, FL; Carol Currie of Fenelton, PA; one granddaughter, Melissa Holzworth of Ft. Valley, GA; his companion, Virginia Yeager, his niece and caregiver, Cheryl O’Day and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles is preceded in death by his daughter, Linda McConnell and his brother, Kenneth McConnell. Honoring his wishes there are no calling hours or services. Interment will take place in the veterans section at Parkside Cemetery and Mausoleum.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Dudek and her husband Robert of Charlotte, NC; her sister, Rose Senatore of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Robyn Mullis and her husband Marc of Fort Mill, SC, Kimberly Montano and her husband David of Fort Mill, SC, Christopher Dudek and his wife Meagan of Rock Hill, SC; and, three great grandchildren, Tyler Mullis, Samuel Mullis, and Logan Montano. Alexander D. Pocza, 97, of Edison Manor passed away on the morning of March 8, 2013 at Edison Manor. He was born on February 21, 1916 to the late Daniel and Lydia Pocza in Pittsburgh, PA. On April 13, 1941, he married the former Florence N. Snyder who preceded him in death on April 15, 2012. Alexander retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company where he worked as an oiler. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Alexander is survived by his son William Pocza and wife Marsha of New Castle, PA, his sister Hilda of Ellwood City, PA, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Gerald Pocza, a daughter, Cerita Burton, and a brother, Dan Pocza. There is no visitation and the service is private. Arrangements handled by the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory Inc, 941 S Mill St.
