John Wright, 65, of Youngstown, OH passed away on September 10, 2015 at his residence. Born on February 25, 1950 in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of the late Wilton and Florence Hammond Wright. John worked as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service and as a counselor for Youth Development Center. He also served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. John belonged to the Free & Accepted Masons and was an Exalted Ruler for the Elks. He attended Ebenezer Church of God in Christ. He enjoyed fishing and reading. John is survived by his children, Towanda Wright of New Castle, Teresa Wright of New Castle, Natasha Talley of Farrell, PA, and Selina Talley of New Castle; brother, James Wilkins, Jr. of Erie, PA; sisters, Gwendolyn Fish of Youngstown, OH and Brenda Wilkins of Winston-Salem, NC; aunt, Evelyn Hammond; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Trevaughn Thompson, and sister, Mary Wright. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ 1119 S Jefferson St. Services will be conducted Friday at 12:00pm at the church, officiated by Reverend Eric Brooks, pastor of Ebenezer Church of God in Christ. Stephen Stasko
Stephen K. Stasko, 73, of Union Township, passed away the afternoon of September 9, 2015 at his residence. Born on December 12, 1941 in Sewickley, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen and Margaret Vislay Stasko. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of over 51 years, the former Venice Cook, whom he married July 25, 1964. Stephen had worked for Mesta Machine Corp, and since 1989, he was the owner of Stasko Radiator Repair. He had served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a faithful member of St. Vitus Church. Stephen was a car enthusiast and enjoyed drag racing with his sons and grandson. In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his children, Stephen Stasko and wife Renee, Bernadette Ratkovich and husband Robert, all of New Castle, and Anthony Stasko and wife Kathy of West Middlesex, PA; sister, Barbara Stanley of Lusby, MD; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at St. Vitus Church, officiated by Father Frank Almade. Interment is in St. Vitus Cemetery.
Joseph Sheldone
Joseph Sheldone, 79, of Hillsville, PA, passed away the morning of September 17, 2015 at UPMC Shadyside. Born on December 1, 1935 in Hillsville, PA, he was the son of the late Patsy G. and Ida Maravola Sheldone. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 58 years, the former Marie Gallucci, whom he married on March 2, 1957. For more than 20 years, Joseph worked as a welder for US Steel and then retired as a foreman for Gennaro Pavers. He was a member of Christ the King Parish. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and visiting casinos with his wife. Joseph’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Carmen P. Sheldone and wife Debbie of Hillsville, PA, Joseph A. Sheldone and wife Lena of New Castle, and Robert R. Sheldone and wife Kim of Hillsville, PA; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Former Dushane Street resident Richard J. DiCarlo, Sr., 83, of New Castle, passed away the morning of September 24, 2015 at his residence. Born on March 17, 1932 in New Castle, he was the son of late Domenick and Josephine DiVincentis DiCarlo. On January 26, 1957, he married his beloved wife, the former Lucy C. Biangone, and they spent over 37 wonderful years until she preceded him in death on July 26, 1994. After 42 years working, Richard retired from his job as a baker for New Model Bakery. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Richard had been a member of the Unione Calabro Americana Society and Moose Lodge #51. He loved watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh teams, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. Richard is survived by his children, Richard DiCarlo Jr. and wife Stephanie and Lu Ann Mangino and husband Michael, all of New Castle; brother, Anthony “Tony” DiCarlo of New Castle; sister, Ann Medure of New Castle; grandchildren, Lacey and Hannah; and great-grandchild, Kinley. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Benny, Carl, and Raymond DiCarlo. Martha Ross
Former Okinawa Drive resident, Martha J. Ross, 96, of Penny Lane, passed away the evening of October 13, 2015 at Jameson Care Center. Born on May 9, 1919 in Scottdale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Winifred Cafferty Clark. On November 22, 1945, she married her beloved husband, Victor H. Ross Sr., and the two spent over 58 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on November 28, 2003. In her earlier years, Martha worked as a registered nurse for Shenango Pottery and the New Castle Hospital. Martha then devoted her life to raising her family. She was a member of St. Camillus Church. An avid golfer, she belonged to the New Castle Country Club. Martha also was a member of the Walmo Garden Club, and she had served on the committee of the Festival of Trees. Martha’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martha is survived by her children, Marty Ross Whittaker and husband Bill of State College, PA and Victor H. Ross Jr. and wife Pamela of New Castle; grandchildren, Jill, Lynn, and Sara; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ellen; sister, Ruth Garbett; and brothers, Emmett Clark, Jack Clark, and Robert Clark. There are no calling hours planned. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday at 10:00am at St. Camillus Church, officiated by Father Michael Peck. John D. Micco, 70, of Hillsville, PA, passed away the morning of October 15, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman, OH. Born on August 1, 1945 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa Madalone Micco. John retired from his job with the paving industry with the Operating Engineers Local #542. He was a member of Christ the King Parish. John was a lifelong member of the Johnson Club. He enjoyed Elvis music and gardening. John is survived by his children, Toni Lynn Micco of Hillsville, PA, Tammi Rannard of Pulaski, PA, David Micco of Hillsville, PA, Kandi Micco of Hillsville, PA, John Kennedy of Edinburg, PA, Julie Gidaro of New Castle, and Jeff Kennedy of Hillsville, PA; brothers, Anthony Micco of Bessemer, PA, Robert Micco of Bessemer, PA, and Ronald Micco of New Castle; sisters, Mary Donofrio and Bonnie Isabella, both of Hillsville, PA; companion, Maryann James of Hillsville, PA; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. James L. Hiler Jr., 67, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of October 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on June 7, 1948 in New Castle, he was the son of the late James L. Sr. and Rose M. Zona Hiler. James retired from his positions as a house parent for the Youth Development Center and a caregiver for LCARC. He also was the former owner of Mio’s Market and Catering. James served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. An avid sports enthusiast, he had been a fast pitch softball coach for several local schools and enjoyed playing golf, morra, and bocce in many local tournaments and leagues. James is survived by his children, Bryan Hiler, Kevin Hiler and wife Jan, all of New Castle, Christina Sauls and husband James of Northport, AL, and Jami Wigton of New Castle; brother, Dennis Hiler Sr. of Bessemer, PA; sister, Patricia Hautala of New Castle; former wife, Lory Adams-Hiler of Poland, OH; and grandchildren, Rosa, Melissa, Kali, Julionna, Carson, and Mara. Carmel F. Nocera, 88, of New Castle, passed away the morning of October 18, 2015 at her residence. Born on September 16, 1927 in Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of the late Vito D. and Elizabeth L. Flauto Vitelli. On June 7, 1947, she married her beloved husband, Carmen Anthony Nocera, and the two spent over 67 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on March 21, 2015. Carmel previously had worked as a finisher for Shenango Pottery, and she had also worked at the Lawrence County Court House for the Recount Board. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. For years, Carmel had served as a Republican Committee Person. Carmel is survived by her children, Betty Ahlswede and husband Edward of Boardman, OH, Vita Nocera of New Castle, and Carmen T. Nocera and wife Lisa of Poland, OH; grandchildren, Lisa Kelso, Laura Cummings, Jennifer Chernushin, Richard Avery, Ashley Avery, Christofer Avery, Carmen Nocera Jr., and Brielle Nocera; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Woods, and sister, Virginia Beach. John DeAngelis
John L. DeAngelis, Sr. formerly of Elizabeth Street and Meadowview Boulevard, went to be with the Lord in his sleep on October 17, 2015 at the Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Wilmington. Born on January 9, 1924 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of Andrew and Mary (Ross) DeAngelis. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Alice (Viviano) DeAngelis, whom he married on September 15, 1947. He attended Youngstown State and Penn State Universities. John served as a sergeant during World War II with a tour of duty that included Italy and Algeria. He retired from Herr-Voss Corporation in Callery, PA in 1986 where he was the Manager of Sales and Service. John was active in Neshannock Township affairs, including service on the zoning board and president of the Boosters Club. He was also a member of ITAM and the American Legion. He loved to sing and had been a member of St. Mary and St. Camillus Churches choirs. He also served as president of the New Castle chapter of the Wolves Club. In his younger days John was a member of the American Legion Band. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margaret Giancola. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by sons John DeAngelis and his wife Fran of Palm Bay, FL and Ron DeAngelis and his wife Dorothy of Butler, PA. He was known as Papa to his four grandchildren, Kristen, Christopher, Brian, and Kara, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Blessing services will be conducted Friday at 1:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Father Michael Peck. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the funeral home on Friday. Vincie Micco
Vincie M. Micco, 98, of Hobart, IN, passed away the morning of October 13, 2015 at Brooksdale Senior Living in Portage, IN. Born on March 25, 1917 in Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Philomena Racco Galuzzo. In 1939, she married her beloved husband, Joseph A. Micco, and the two spent 47 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in July 1986. Vincie had worked as a bookkeeper for New Castle Lumber Company and Lawrence J. Rich. She was a member of Christ the King Parish. Vincie is survived by her son, Robert Joseph Micco and wife Cathy of Indiana; grandchildren, Richard P. Sacui, Dina Vaught, Robert C. Micco, and Kirstin Micco; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosalind Sacui. Rose Tommasone, 95, of West Pittsburg, PA, passed away the evening of October 22, 2015 at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care. Born on April 20, 1920 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Domenico and Philomena Feola Lombardo. Also preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Mario Tommasone, who preceded her in death on December 1, 1996. Rose was a very active and devoted member of St. Vincent DePaul Church. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and wonderful cook who loved cooking and entertaining at home. Rose is survived by her son, Anthony Tommasone and wife Joanne of West Pittsburg, PA; sister, Nora Germanski of New Castle; step-grandchildren, Douglas Columbus and wife Nichole, Daniel Columbus and significant other Angel Reberio, Nicholas Columbus, and Robert Columbus; and three step-great-grandchildren. Desdemona Colecchi
Desdemona Maria (Dedde) Andruccioli Colecchi, 91, formerly of South Cascade St and Penny Lane passed away the evening of October 22, 2015. Born on May 4, 1924 in Rome, Italy, Dedde was the daughter of the late Edoardo and Anna Delle Colli Andruccioli. On May 18, 1946 in Rome, Italy she married her beloved husband, Joseph L. Colecchi and the two spent over sixty nine wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on October 21, 2015. The young war bride, along with 700 other war brides on the Thomas Berry ship, arrived in New York on July 27, 1946. Upon arrival she was met by her husband, Joseph and they settled in New Castle, PA on July 29, 1946 to start their lives together. Dedde was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. She is survived by her daughter, Ann J. DeCarbo and her husband Donald G. of New Castle; her two sisters, Rosa Angeletti and her husband, Ornaldo and Carolina Andruccioli, both of Rome, Italy; her granddaughter, Rosalyn A. Maitland and her husband William (Bill) of New Castle; her grandson, Edward J. DeCarbo and his wife Melissa of New Castle and the loves of her life, her three great grandchildren, Matthew W. Maitland, Marina R. Maitland and Ilaria M. DeCarbo. She is also survived by ten nephews and nieces and eleven great nephews and great nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, Dedde is preceded in death by her sister, Anna Maria Passeri Bianchi, her brother, Othello Andruccioli and sister-in-law Gina and nephew Edoardo Andruccioli. Charles W. Cameron, 74, of New Castle, passed away the evening of October 24, 2015 at his residence. Born on March 21, 1941 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary Turk Cameron. Charles retired as a self-employed truck driver. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Charles is survived by his children, Joan Arrow and husband Donald of Enon Valley, PA, Eric W. Cameron and wife Ann of New Middleton, OH, Melissa Schmolly and husband John of Darlington, PA, and Connie Glavan and husband Luke of New Castle; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Valerie Fazzone
Valerie Jean Fazzone, 51, peacefully passed away the afternoon of October 25, 2015 at UPMC Mercy. Born on August 31, 1964 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. Sr. and Helen N. Marcantino Fazzone. A New Castle High School graduate, Valerie had worked at Lark Enterprises for the evening janitorial crew. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. A music lover, Valerie was a huge Beatles fan. She also loved cats. Valerie is survived by her sister, Elaine Fazzone of New Castle, and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Fazzone Jr. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Blessing services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Nancy Tammaro
Nancy L. Tammaro, 73, of E. Reynolds Street, peacefully passed away the morning of October 28, 2015 with her sons at her side after a 13 month battle with cancer. Born on June 25, 1942 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Dante and Jennie Ciccone DeFalco. On July 29, 1961, she married her beloved husband, James Tammaro, and the two spent over 46 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on July 10, 2008. Nancy was a member of St. Vitus Church. She enjoyed going to flea markets, yard work, and cooking. Nancy will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and friend who loved making people laugh and being in the company of her family and friends. Nancy is survived by her sons, Scott Tammaro and Jeff Tammaro, both of New Castle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dante DeFalco II. Honoring her wishes, services are private. Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
Raymond Suszynski
Raymond Suszynski, 88, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of October 25, 2015. Born on March 22, 1927 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Zigmont and Sophia Olsheski Suszynski. On September 10, 1949, he married his beloved wife, the former Betty Jane Smith, and the two spent over 56 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on July 31, 2006. After 18 years of working, Raymond retired from his job as a coremaker for the New Castle Foundry. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during both Atlantic and Pacific Campaigns for World War II. An avid hunter and fisherman, Raymond was a member of the Bessemer Rod & Gun Club and the North American Fishing Club. He also belonged to the VFW Post #267. Raymond is survived by his children, Bobbie Lavender and Greg Colton, Victor Suszynski and wife Amy, Ronald Suszynski and wife Sherry, all of New Castle, and James Suszynski and ex-wife Anita of Pulaski, PA; brother, George Suszynski of New Mexico; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death death by his sons, William and Terry Suszynski; grandchild, Rodney Suszynski; brother, Edward Suszynski; and sisters, Stella Suszynski, Sophie Syling, Victoria Luffey, Eleanor Caruso, and Jennie Gabriel. Anita DeCarlo
Anita C. DeCarlo, 84, passed away the morning of October 31, 2015 at her residence in New Castle. Born on September 28, 1931 in New Castle, Anita was the daughter of the late John, Sr., and Anna Ross Donofrio. Preceding her in death on April 29, 1990, is her husband, Joseph (Shadow) DeCarlo whom she married on May 4, 1953. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Anita retired from Augustine’s Pizza, where she worked for over twenty five years as a baker and a cook. Anita loved cooking, baking and was known for her sense of humor and always making people feel welcome with open arms. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Karen DeCarlo; her brother, Edward Donofrio and his wife Donna and her sister, Margaret Colucci, all of New Castle. In addition to her parents and husband, Anita is preceded in death by her daughter, who just sadly passed in August, Doreen A. DeCarlo, her brother, John Donofrio, Jr and her sister, Viola Hare. Mary Allen
Mary M. (Minnie) Allen, 93, formerly of Coolidge Street, passed away the evening of November 1, 2015 at her residence in New Castle. Born on June 26, 1922 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Philomena Fragola Genareo. She is also preceded in death by her husbands, Oliver Price, Samuel Gilson, and Ralph Allen. Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse and worked for various nursing homes. After 14 years of working, she retired from the Villa Maria Community Center in New Bedford. She was a member of Independent Methodist Church. Known as the baker of the family, Mary loved cooking and baking, especially helping to make cookies for all of the family weddings, graduations, showers, or anyone who asked for her help. She enjoyed gardening. Mary will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was also the family caregiver and was very giving of her time. Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law, Michelle Gilson of Ellwood City, PA; step-sons, Ralph Lee Allen and Wayne Allen, both of New Castle; grandsons, Christopher Gilson, Frank Gilson, David Gilson, Ronald Gilson, and Logan McDonald; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sons, John R. Gilson, Samuel Gilson, and Frank Gilson; sister, Lucille Magno; brothers, Anthony, Joseph, Sam, Carmen, Angelo, and Ralph Genareo. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Reverend Frederick Gilbert of Independent Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Oak Park Cemetery.
Thomas Spinelli
Thomas F. Spinelli, 92, of Union Township, passed away the morning of November 3, 2015 at his residence. Born on August 21, 1923 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Colao Spinelli. On October 4, 1947, he married his beloved wife, the former Louise Rossi, and the two spent over 61 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on January 15, 2009. Thomas retired from management for Shenango Pottery. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Vitus Church and enjoyed woodworking. Thomas will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was known for helping and taking care of his family and friends. Thomas is survived by his children, Doreen Hostetler and husband David of Durham, NC and Frank Spinelli of New Castle; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Tony Spinelli, and sisters, Rose Valentino and Jennie Lombardo. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Blessing services will be conducted Thursday at 3:30pm at the funeral home, officiated by Father William Siple of St. Vitus Church. Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
