Edward Vance Carey II, 50, of Franklin, PA, passed away the morning November 3, 2015 at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler, PA. He was born on April 5, 1965 in Franklin, PA. Edward is survived by his father, William L. Carey Sr. and wife Joyce of Cooperstown, PA, and he was preceded in death by his mother, Pansy Kammerdeiner Carey. Edward was a professional drummer and drum teacher, and he also coached his sons’ flag football team at the YMCA. He also worked as a wrestling coach. A 1983 graduate of Franklin High School, he was a member of the wrestling team and varsity club. A happy-go-lucky and energetic man, Edward loved music, watching the Steelers, and life. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted father, son, and brother who loved spending time doing anything with his sons. In addition to his father, Edward is survived by his twin sons, Vance and Chase Carey of Franklin, PA; girlfriend, Renee Russo of Hermitage, PA; brother, William Carey Jr. and fiancee Beth Ann Proudfoot of Franklin, PA; sisters, SanDee Jenkins of Meadville, PA and Jody Brown of Florida; step-brother, Rod Urey of Cooperstown, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Thrush. There are no calling hours planned, and services are private.

Sa’Vaughn T. Stewart, 21, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of November 4, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 21, 1994 in New Castle. Sa’Vaughn is survived by his father, Orlando V. Stewart and fiancée Sherice Brothers; mother, LaShawna L. Smith; and godmother, Nora Willene Moore, all of New Castle. Sa’Vaughn was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. He loved music and had a wonderful sense of humor. Sa’Vaughn will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, and grandson who enjoyed life to the fullest and loved his family. In addition to his parents, Sa’Vaughn is survived by his girlfriend, Shonta Jackson of New Castle; stepson, Kylan Jackson of New Castle; grandparents, Larry Fitzhugh, Derrick Montgomery, and Yolanda Montgomery, all of New Castle; brothers, Braelin Stewart, Phoenix Davis, both of New Castle, and Kendall Clyburn of Arizona; and sisters, LaShay Smith, Talasha Patrick, Breona Smith, all of New Castle, Colbi Warfield of San Antonio, TX, Tanai Brothers, Ameah Stewart, Ashlee Moore, and Kamari Moore, all of New Castle. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Delsa Smith, James Smith, and Kathleen Moore. Marian J. Gallonio, 89, of Edinburg, PA, passed away the morning of November 7, 2015 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born on November 13, 1925 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Amelia Fair Coiro. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 68 years, Andrew A. Gallonio, whom she married on November 16, 1946. Marian retired from her jobs as a cashier for K-Mart and a receptionist for Meals on Wheels and Childrens Services. She was a former member of St. Camillus Church and a former member of St. Marys Choir. Marian loved dancing with her husband at Cascade Park and going to McConnells Mills. She also enjoyed oil painting, arts and crafts, and birdwatching. She was known as a great cook. Marian will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was happiest when she was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Marian is survived by her children, Sandra L. Gallonio of New Bedford, PA, Dale A. Gallonio and wife Penny of Pennellville, NY, and David W. Gallonio and wife Chris of New Castle; sister, Rosemarie Natale of New Castle; grandchildren, Michael J. Smiley, Andrea Pindroh and husband Ryan, Emily Gallonio, Jeffrey Gallonio, Pamela Daniels and husband Keith, and Suzanne McAuliffe and husband John; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Julia, and Jacob Daniels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Gallonio; sister Nellie Coiro; and brother, Nicholas Coiro. Raymond G. Shaffer, 72, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 8, 2015 at his residence. Born on July 18, 1943 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Paul and Lulu Gibson Shaffer. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 22 years, the former Janice E. Harkins, whom he married on November 27, 1992. Raymond retired from his job as a carpenter. Raymond is survived by his five children; brother, Paul Shaffer of New Castle; sister, Maude Shaffer of New Castle; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Joan E. Querriera, 85, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 10, 2015 at her residence. Born on July 3, 1930 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Charlotte Kenehan Benninghoff. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Querriera, whom passed away on March 8, 2010. Joan was a member of Croton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. Joan is survived by her children, Linda Schultz of Alexandria, VA and Brenda Bulnes and husband Alex of Herndon, VA; brother, Jack Benninghoff of Dunwoody, GA; and sister, Charlene McManany of St. Simons Island, GA. Mildred (JoAnn) Shoaf

On November 7, 2015 surrounded by her family, Mildred “JoAnn” Ritchie Shoaf went home to be with her Lord. Born on May 28, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Freda Ritchie. She married Clyde Shoaf on June 2, 1953, and together they enjoyed making wood crafts. She loved flowers, enjoyed playing bingo, and was the ultimate Steelers fan. JoAnn and her husband attended Oakpoint Christian Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings, Geraldine Crum, Carol Trott, and John Ritchie. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband, Clyde Shoaf; daughters, Vickie Commesso and Bonnie Davisson, all of New Castle; stepson, Ron Britton of California; loving grandchildren, Shannon Lear, Amy Abruzere, Kiley Commesso, Haleigh Davisson, and Dylan Davisson; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received at Wayside Emmanuel Church 4437 Mitchell Rd, New Castle, PA on Wednesday, November 11, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted by Pastor Abel Robels and Pastor Randy Crum at 6:00pm at the church. The family would like to thank the Haven Convalescent Home for the wonderful care she received.

Bonnie L. DeMase, 79, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of November 12, 2015 at West Pennsylvania Hospital. Born on May 27, 1936 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Lena Ferry Santangelo. On October 22, 1955, she married her beloved husband, Walter J. DeMase Sr., and the two spent over 55 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on March 7, 2011. Bonnie retired as a bookkeeper for Vallely Honda. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Bonnie will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved cooking holiday meals and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie is survived by her children, Tammy Neve and husband Nick, LeeAnn Dale and husband Robert, and Walter DeMase Jr. and wife Annette, all of New Castle; sisters, JoAnne Faraone and husband Mark, Elizabeth Bertone, and Linda Black and husband Terry, all of New Castle; grandchildren, Nicholas, Francesca, and Gianna Neve, Jonathan, Christopher and wife Brianna, and Robert Dale III, Kayla and husband Randy Altman, Kylie, and Walter DeMase III; and great-grandchildren, Anastyn Altman and Christopher Dale. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Hasson. Former New Castle resident, Robert A. Johnson, 79, of Beaver Falls, PA, passed away the morning of November 17, 2015 at his residence. Born on May 26, 1936 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Felix and Elizabeth Alfera Johnson. On June 30, 1962, he married his beloved wife, the former Elizabeth Ann (Betty) James, and the two spent over 31 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on December 29, 1993. Robert retired from his job as a civil engineer for PennDOT, and he then worked as a consultant for the Turnpike Commission. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Robert was a former member of the Jameson Hospital Committee and Cascade Park Committee. He enjoyed gardening and watching college football, especially Notre Dame. Robert is survived by his children, Regina Johnson and Bettina Marie Nero, both of Beaver Falls, PA; sister, Jackie Johnson of New Castle; and granddaughter, Cetta Elizabeth Natale of Beaver Falls, PA. Blessing services will be conducted Friday at 1:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd, officiated by Father William Siple of St. Vitus Church. Raymond E. Cioffi, 86, of Neshannock Township, passed away the evening of November 16, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on October 5, 1929 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Dominick E. and Viola Frasso Cioffi. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of over 61 years, the former Joann Marso, whom he married on October 16, 1954. Raymond was a self-employed businessman, owning Ray TVs and Ray Interiors and retiring from Kerrco Company, an interior design and draperies company. He also served his country as a member of the National Guard. An active and devout member of St. Camillus Church, Raymond taught Sunday School and Bible Study and was involved in numerous church activities. He also was known for his handyman skills. In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his children, Diane Lombardo and husband Ronald of New Castle, Dr. David Cioffi and wife Beth of Lancaster, PA, and Jon Cioffi and wife Jennifer of Ann Arbor, MI; brother, Dr. Eugene Cioffi of Mobile, AL; and grandchildren, Bryan Lombardo and wife Jaime, Brandon Lombardo, Elizabeth Cioffi, Matthew Cioffi, and Katherine Cioffi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Glorita Pionati; brother, Donald Cioffi; and great-granddaughter, Gabriella Lombardo. Tammy Lee (Kobialka) Freshcorn, 52, passed away the afternoon of Saturday, November 21, 2015 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born on May 10, 1963 in New Castle, PA, she was a daughter of Marion Thompson Kobialka of New Castle and the late Benny Kobialka. Tammy worked as a caregiver for many families. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gambling, and going on cruises. She was an avid Steelers fan and a member of the Salvation Army Church. Tammy was preceded in death by her father, Benny Kobialka, and sister, Bonnie Knight. Tammy is survived by her mother, Marian Kobialka of New Castle; husband, Freeman (JR) Freshcorn of New Castle; sons, John Kobialka and wife Amber and James Reid III and wife Melissa, all of New Castle; stepson, Chaz Freshcorn of New Castle; brothers, William Kobialka and Timothy Kobialka, both of New Castle; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many. There are no calling hours planned. Debra Lynn Klingensmith, 60, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 24, 2015 at her residence. Born on June 13, 1955 in Spokane, WA, she was the daughter of Shirley Myers Frazier and the late Thomas Harry Frazier. On June 9, 1973, she married her beloved husband, Larry Dean Klingensmith, and the two were together for more than 38 wonderful years until he preceded her in death on May 2, 2012. Debra retired as a nurse practitioner at a family practice in Slippery Rock. Prior to that, she worked for 30 years at Butler Hospital. Debra loved being outdoors and camping, and she also enjoyed music, sewing, and cooking. Debra will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her time to taking care of her family and others. Debra is survived by her children, Tamara M. Kaufman and husband James of Butler, PA and Jennifer S. Elliott and husband Aaron of New Castle; brothers, Robert Frazier of Plain Grove, PA and Thomas Frazier of New Castle; sister, Patricia Klingensmith and husband Harold of Cerro Gordo, NC; sister-in-law, Pamela Frazier of Ohio; grandchildren, Derek James Kaufman, Zachary Dean Kaufman, and Alexandra Mae Elliott; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sally L. Michael, 79, passed away the morning of November 23, 2015 at her residence in Union Township. Born in New Castle on March 25, 1936, Sally was the daughter of the late Howard and Erma Emmett McCune. On December 31, 1957, Sally married her beloved husband of over fifty seven years, William L. Michael until he preceded her in death on April 15, 2014. Sally was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to raising her family. In her earlier years she enjoyed bowling. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. She is survived by her two children, William L. Michael III and his wife Dawn of New Wilmington; Robert Michael and his wife, Lisa Joseph of New Castle; her brother, David McCune of VA; five grandchildren, Bryar Michael, George Joseph, Amber Metz, Lizzie Minteer, Joshua Metz; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Sally is preceded in death by her two sisters, Sandra Ryan, Barbara Bartell and her infant brother, Howard. Donna M. Carvella, 81, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 27, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on December 8, 1933 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Domenic and Louise Friello Maciarello. On November 9, 1957, she married her beloved husband, Michael Carvella Sr., and the two spent over 38 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on August 30, 1996. Donna retired as a cafeteria worker for the New Castle Area School District in 1993. An active member of St. Camillus Church, she was a member of the Ladies Guild and a CCD aide at the church. Donna will always be remembered as a loving and precious wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Donna is survived by her children, Eleanor Rozzi and husband Charles and Valerie Bouye and husband Chris, all of New Castle; sister, Henrietta Zaccarelli of New Castle; and grandchild, Christopher Bouye. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Carvella Jr.; twin brother, Donald Maciarello; and sister, Teresa Trivilino. Ann I. Jones, 96, of New Castle, passed away the evening of November 27, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on December 7, 1918 at Four States, WV, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Katherine Slaman. In 1944, she married her beloved husband, Harry L. Jones, and the two of them spent over 22 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on January 11, 1967. Ann had worked as a gold liner for Shenango Pottery for over 20 years. She later retired as a sorter for the New Castle News. She was a member of the El-Fiyet Allaween Syrian Association Auxiliary. In her earlier years, she was an avid Pirates fan. Ann will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Ann is survived by her children, Laurie Jones, with whom she resided, Richard Jones and wife Marci, and Marcie Jones DeLillo, all of New Castle; sister, Mary L. Gibson of New Castle; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Michael DeLillo; brothers, Albert Slaman and Abe Slaman; and sister, Amelia Slaman. Rose M. Firmi, 53, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of November 29, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman, OH. Born on June 30, 1962 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Betty Gregg Firmi of New Castle and the late Samuel C. Firmi. Rose worked as a registered nurse for St. Elizabeth Hospital for 25 years. She was a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Rose was a 1980 graduate of Villa Maria High School, and she later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Youngstown State University. After this, she attended Penn State University and then graduated from Jameson Hospital School of Nursing. Rose then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Slippery Rock University. She enjoyed travelling. Rose will be remembered for her loving and caring personality. In addition to her mother, Rose is survived by her sister, Audrey Buckley and husband Patrick of New Castle; nephews, Nicholas Buckley and Patrick Buckley; several cousins and extended family which included her many friends; and her most beautiful girl in the world, her cat, Lily. Honoring her wishes, there are no calling hours planned. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:00am at St. Mary Church, officiated by Father Zachary Galiyas of Holy Redeemer Parish. Mary Jennie DeVitto, 91, of North Cascade Street, passed away the afternoon of November 30, 2015 at her residence. Born on August 3, 1924 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Liberato and Clara DePinto Zarlenga. On November 22, 1947, she married her beloved husband, Matthew A. DeVitto, and the two spent over 58 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on October 13, 2006. In her earlier years, Mary worked as a machine operator for Johnson Bronze. She later worked as a waitress for Isaly’s Restaurant and then as a manager for Red Barn Restaurant in New Castle. She was a member of the New Life Baptist Church. Mary also was a member of AARP. A lover of travelling, she organized many bus trips all over the country with different groups. Mary was an exercise enthusiast who attended several local exercise clubs. She also enjoyed flower gardening, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her children, Carl DeVitto of New Castle, Shirley Scilla of Mercer, PA, and Lenny DeVitto of Harrisburg, NC; brother, Romeo Zarlenga of New Castle; sister, Beatrice Fee of California; grandchildren, Danielle DeVitto, Jaclyn Scilla, Tiffanie Zuzack, Justin Scilla, Brittany Gaskey, and Morgan DeVitto; and great-grandchildren, Catalaya, Owen, and Adeline. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Zarlenga and Al Zarlenga, and sisters, Alice Hay and Carmella Kizinski. Robert L. Porterfield, 65, of Union Township, passed away the morning of November 26, 2015 at his residence. Born on December 1, 1949 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Charles and June Williams Porterfield. Robert had worked as a foundry worker for Rockwell International, and he later retired from Parker Hannifin in Youngstown, OH. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Robert enjoyed hunting and going to classic and antique car shows. Robert is survived by his former wife of 34 years, JoAnn McVay of New Castle; daughter, Bobbie-Jo Porterfield of New Castle; brothers, Ron Porterfield and Gary Porterfield, both of New Castle; sister, Hazel Ludwiczak of New Castle; and three grandchildren. Born in New Castle on September 18, 1940, William was the son of the late William H., II and Dorothy E. Cowmeadow Baker. Also preceding him in death on April 29, 2014 is his wife, the former Charlene Funk whom he married on January 1, 1970. William was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He retired from Vista Power of Spokane, WA where he had worked as a lineman. William is survived by his two children, Jennifer Stanicar and her husband Jim of Missoula, Montana; Sandon Baker and his wife Kim of Spokane, Washington; two brothers, George Baker and his wife Jean of Porter Ranch, CA; Don Baker and his wife Linda of New Castle; his sister, Dorothy Dale of Hardeeville, South Carolina and four grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, William is preceded in death by his sister, Sally Baker. There are no calling hours and services are private.

Frances Hamed Allay, 103, formerly of Thorpe Street, passed away the morning of December 5, 2015 at Jameson Care Center. Born on April 25, 1912 in Smithton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Hamed. On December 22, 1933, she married her beloved husband, James Allay, and the two spent over 64 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on April 15, 1998. Frances belonged to the El-Fityet Allaween Syrian Association Ladies Auxiliary. Frances is survived by her daughter, Faith Hassan and Ed Wish of New Castle; son, Richard Allay and wife Gerri of Euclid, OH; longtime friend and “adopted daughter”, Natalie Flack and husband Jacob of Sharpsville, PA; grandchildren, Kevin and Debbie Hassan, Hope and Tom McGinnis, Dr. James and Esther Allay, and Melissa and Scott Sommers; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Hassan, Spencer Hassan, Regina Hassan, Aidan McGinnis, Ava McGinnis, Michael Sommers, Anna Sommers, Taylor Allay, and Casey Allay. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Hamed and James Hamed; sisters, Mary Hamett and Ann Kidoor; and son-in-law, Jerome “Jerry” Hassan. Services were held Sunday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Interment took place in Valley View Cemetery.
