Janice M. Collier, 76, of Mountainview Road, New Castle passed away the morning of January 8, 2013 in Jameson Memorial Hospital. She was born November 10, 1936 in Wheeling, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late George, Jr. and Leona Borchert Bowers. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 20, 1999, the late Richard Collier. Mrs. Collier was a homemaker. She enjoyed bingo and loved animals. She also enjoyed music and was a member of the Penn/Ohio Music Club. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Janice is survived by her daughter, Karen Werling and husband Harvey of New Castle; brother, Gerald Bowers of Wheeling, WV; grandson John Connor and great-grandson, Dominick Fobes. Vencie Chirumbolo, 91, of Fields Drive, New Castle; formerly of E. Lutton Street passed away the morning of January 9, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. She was born October 12, 1921 in Ellwood City, PA and was the daughter of the late Felix and Rose Vescio Chirumbolo. Vencie retired from Reliable Luggage where she worked as a seamstress. In earlier years she worked for the National Pants Factory. She loved to cook and bake and she dedicated herself to taking care of her family. Vencie was a member of St. Vitus Church. She is survived by two sisters, Albena Chirumbolo with whom she resided and Lucy Thomas both of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. In addition to her parents, Vencie was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Perrotta and a brother, Frank Chirumbolo. There will be no calling hours. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Fr. Nicholas Vaskov on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Vitus Church. Interment will be in St. Vitus Cemetery. Audrey Ruth Ruby Caimano, 88, of New Castle; formerly of Savannah Road passed away the evening of January 10, 2013 in Jameson Hospital with her loving daughters at her side. Born October 8, 1924 in North Sewickley Township, she was the daughter of the late Earl U. and Blanche Gallaher McDanel. In 1941 she married her husband, the late William E. Ruby who preceded her in death in 1969. She then married her husband, the late John Caimano in 1971. He preceded her in death in 1993. Audrey was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, visiting casinos, jigsaw puzzles and word seek puzzles. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who’s greatest joy was the time spent with her family. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Magliocca and husband Fred of Paradise, CA, Barbara Prestopine and husband Michael of New Castle and Linda Park-Oliver and husband Gary of Wheatland; sisters, Pearl Gardner of Nakomis, FL and Shirley Murphy of Ellwood City; sisters-in-law, Glenna McDanel of St. Petersburg, FL and Carol McDanel of Wampum; nine grandchildren, Brenda Apodaco, Janice Dewart, Pamela Fennick, Paula Bigley, Patricia Schaffer, Michael W. Prestopine, Brian Park, Bruce Park and Cindy Park; nineteen great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers Earl C. McDanel and Melvin R. McDanel and one grandson, Frederick W. Magliocca. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will be conducted by Reverend Matthew Bupp on Monday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Wurtemburg Cemetery, Ellwood City.

Union township resident, Helen A. Bertolino, 89, formerly of Municipal Dr. passed away the morning of January 13, 2013 at the Avalon Nursing Home. Born on February 1, 1923 in New Castle, Helen was the daughter of the late Dominick and Josephine Bullano Colella. Preceding her in death in 1963 is her husband, Anthony Bertolino, Sr. Helen was a member of St. Vitus Church. She retired from Ralph’s Supermarket. Prior to that, she had worked at Rocky’s Supermarket for over thirty five years. Helen enjoyed making ceramic dolls and was a avid sports fan and enjoyed watching hockey and football games. She loved being surrounded with her family and grandchildren and enjoyed preparing family dinners for them. Helen was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her two children, Anthony Bertolino, Jr. and his wife Susan; John Bertolino, both of New Castle; her brother, Louis Colella of New Castle; and four grandchildren, Allison, Anthony, Jennifer and Christina. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by her sisters, Lenore Conti, Theresa Gennock and two brothers, Frank Colella and Emilio Colella. Visitation is Tuesday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Charles Robert Murphy, 64, passed away the afternoon of January 12, 2013 at his residence in New Castle. Born on December 14, 1948 in New Castle, Charles was the son of John and Edith Clark Murphy. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in New Castle. Surviving at home, is his wife, the former Mui Vong, who he married on May 11, 1971. Charles was a US Army veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam Era. Charles had worked for the Graziani Construction Company as an heavy equipment mechanic. He enjoyed playing cards and going to casinos. Charles cherished the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his mother and wife, Charles is survived by his two children, Robert Murphy and his wife Melanie; Susan Leshinsky and her husband Michael, both of New Castle; two brothers, Jack Murphy, Tyrone Murphy, six sisters, Mary Beckman, Joanne Vankirk, Sandy Murphy, Betty Hinchcliff, Barb Dando, Carol Householder and his four grandchildren, Shelby, Rhett, Hana and Michael. He is preceded in death by his father, three brothers, George Murphy, Tim Murphy, Pat Murphy and one sister, Shirley Blake. There are no calling hours and services are private. Thomas A. Rozzi, 91, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of January 12, 2013 in the Overlook Nursing Home, New Wilmington. He was born February 5, 1921 in New Castle and was the son of the late Angelo and Angeline Marie Colonna Rozzi. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary R. Balascio whom he married February 12, 1942. Mr. Rozzi retired after twenty one years from General American Transportation Company, Masury, OH where he worked as an electrician. He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He served as a sergeant with the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Civilian Conservation Corps and a member of St. Vitus Church. Thomas enjoyed camping, fishing and playing pool. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rosalind Campbell and Jane Stiegler and husband Robert both of Fredericksburg, VA; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina DeCarbo; five brothers, Louis, Joseph, Samuel, Guido and Fred and three sisters, Mary, Assunta and Teresa. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Father Nicholas Vaskov on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Vitus Church. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM for church. Fannie Marcantino, 89, of Ninth Street, West Pittsburg passed away the evening of January 13, 2013 at her residence. She was born July 24, 1923 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Michael and Clara Othites. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Michael F. Marcantino whom she married October 1952. Mrs. Marcantino was a homemaker. In earlier years she worked as a secretary for Penn Power. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved the times spent with her family. Fannie was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Michael Marcantino and wife Sharon of Dillsburg, PA; daughter, Patti Marcantino and husband John Wesolowski of West Lake, OH; brother, George Othites of New Castle; two grandchildren, Ashley Greathouse and Anne Marie Reck and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Genie Othites and Sadie Othites and three brothers, Manuel, Constantine and John Othites. Born in New Castle on May 4, 1921, Julia was the daughter of the late William and Louise DiPasquali Caparoula. Preceding her in death in 1968 was her husband, Eli Schofield who she married in 1938. Julia was a member of St. Vitus Church. Julia had worked at Shenango China and prior to that she worked for Reliable Luggage. Julia loved working seek and find puzzles and making crafts. Survivors include one son, William Schofield of Youngstown, Oh; three daughters, Julia DeHaven of Coitsville, Oh; JoAnn Scavotto of Youngstown, Oh; Sandra Finamore of New Castle; three brothers, James Caparoula, Robert Caparoula, Richard Caparoula, all of New Castle; six sisters, Theresa Suzow, Sylvia Peabody, Mary Scully, Adeline Scully, Gilda Jackson, Nora Robinson, all of New Castle; twenty one grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and thirty two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Julia is preceded in death by one daughter, Bertha Houk, her sister, Phyllis Yeropoli and one brother, John Caparoula. John B. Macri, Jr.,60, of S. Ray St., formerly of W. Pittsburg Rd. passed away the afternoon of January 13, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on February 26, 1952,in New Castle,a son of the late John B., Sr. and Shirley Ault Macri. Surviving at home is his wife, the former S. Noreen Bovo who he married on August 16, 1975. John was a graduate of the Mohawk class of 1970. He joined the Navy in October 1970 and served honorably till 1974 on the USS Constellation aircraft carrier overseas during the Vietnam era. John retired from the Rockwell Axle Division and was recently employed at Walmart as an unloader. In earlier years he had worked as a farm hand at Piedmont Dairy Farm. He was a great admirer and previous owner of vintage cars. He enjoyed truck pulls, car races and motorcycles. John was a great movie buff and enjoyed genealogy. He was an avid reader, a collector of books and passed on his love of reading to his daughter and granddaughter. He attended CCAC majoring in history and was an avid historian. John cherished the time he spent with his family and his greatest joy was his granddaughter, Giovanna. Survivors include his wife, his daughter, Amanda Macri of New Castle; three brothers, Daniel (Jenna Lee) Macri of Butler, Pa; Randy Macri, Gary Macri, both of West Pittsburg; one sister, Nancy (Robert) Palmer of New Castle; granddaughter, Giovanna, mother-in-law, Betty Bovo, sisters-in-law, Dr. Mary Jane Bovo, Jomesa (Stanley) Presnar, Michele Bovo, brother-in-law, Marc(Renee) Bovo and his nieces and nephews, Christine (Michael) O’Brien, Vincent (Annette) Presnar, Justin Lemmon, Emily Donnelly, Sam Perl, Tim O’Brien, Andrew Bovo, Anthony, Isabella and Adrianna Presnar, Ethan and Elliot Palmer and Shauna (Brandon) Rettig. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Macri, father-in-law, James Bovo, brother-in-law, Dominic Bovo and one nephew, Robbie Macri. Ronald W. Mellott, 53, of Zoccolli Rd. passed away the evening of January 14, 2013. Born in New Castle, Pa. on February 15, 1959, Ronald was the son of the late Albert, Sr. and Mary Ruth Coy Mellott. Preceding him in death on March 8, 2005 is his wife, the former Brenda L. Carbone who he married in 1986. Ronald was the owner of Complete Property Maintenance Company and the former co-owner of Michaelangleo’s. He was a former Mahoning Township volunteer fire fighter and enjoyed fishing and traveling. Ronald is survived by his two children, Carrie Ann Mellott, of New Castle; Ronald Christopher Mellott of Edinburg and his brother, Roger Mellott of Mt. Jackson. In addition to his parents and wife, Ronald is preceded in death by his three brothers, Raymond Mellott, Ross Mellott and Albert Mellott, Jr. There are no calling hours. Michaeline M. (Mimi) Chmura, 86, of N. Ashland Avenue passed away the evening of January 17, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. She was born August 13, 1926 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Michael and Katherine Dachko Chmura. She retired from Shenango China where she worked as a decorator. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, a former member of Madonna Church and was very active and a volunteer for both churches. Michaeline enjoyed cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her nieces and nephews. She is survived by a brother, John J. Chmura of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great-great niece and a great-great nephew also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Stanley, Michael, Frank and Walter Chmura and three sisters, Sophie Chmura, Caroline Seinkner and Jenny Chmura. She was born December 13, 1949 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Perrett Sawick. She was preceded in death in 2011 by her husband, the late James Watts. Marlene was the owner and managed two restaurants; the Rocky River Restaurant and the LaMars Restaurant both in North Carolina. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her nieces, nephew, great niece and great nephew. She is survived by a sister, Andrea Ayers and husband Ed of New Castle; two nieces, Morgan Lynch and Alexandra Ayers; nephew, A.J. Ayers; great niece, Payton Lynch and great nephew, Jaxson Lynch. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle who raised her, Andy and Dolores Marmo. The family will receive friends and family on Monday from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. She was preceded in death on July 4, 2010 by her husband, the late Gary Ruffley whom she married on June 23, 2005. Rebecca enjoyed crafts, music and photography. She was a loving mother who’s greatest joy was spending time with her children. She is survived by two daughters, Anna Jean Ruffley and Caitlyn Rose Ruffley both of New Castle; three brothers, Raymond McClure of Abilene, TX, Daniel McClure of New Castle and Steven McClure of Aynor, SC; four sisters, Tracie Galvin and Katie Watkins both of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dora Watts of Conway, SC and Melissa Conner of Augusta, GA and two half-sisters, Terri Guerra of Jupiter, FL and Kristy Burns of New Castle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Ruffley, Jr. There will be no calling hours. Helen Irene Welsh, 77, of New Castle, PA; formerly of E. Palestine, OH passed away the morning of January 18, 2013 in Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 17, 1935 in Corning, NY and was the daughter of the late Robert and Mildred Adsit Wainwright. On September 17, 1981 she married her husband, the late George O. Welsh. He preceded her in death February 3, 1998. Helen had worked as a secretary for Armor Meat Packing Co. of Beaver Falls, PA. She loved to crochet and travel, visiting many states throughout America. She loved people and spending time with family and friends. She was a loving grandmother who was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen is survived by two daughters, Traci Householder and husband Ronald of East Palestine, OH and Michelle Quarterman of E. Liverpool, OH; son Leroy M. Palmer and wife Marilyn of New Castle, PA; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Leroy G. Palmer and a sister, Edith Roe. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle. Mary Buchowski, 88, of Volant passed away the morning of January 19, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. She was born March 15, 1924 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Pete and Rose Sniezek Presnar. On April 1, 1945 she married her husband, the late William Buchowski who preceded her in death April 16, 2012. Mary had worked as a waitress for both Isaly’s and The Tavern both located in New Wilmington, PA. She was a member of the former Madonna Church and a member of the Polish National Alliance. She enjoyed gardening and birds. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her greatest joy was the time spent with her family. Mary is survived by a son, James Lee Buchowski and wife Camille (Cami) of Volant; a daughter, Rose Ann Jones and husband Donald of Ellwood; two sisters, Frances Buchowski of Florida and Clara Gargasz of Volant; three grandchildren and five great grandchlildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John Presnar, Joseph Presnar and Frank Presnar and four sisters, Bertha Presnar, Angeline Fye, Anna Heims and Helen Bitence. There will be no calling hours and a private service will be held at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. Anne Marcella Gentsy, 93, formerly of Wilson Avenue Ext. passed away the evening of January 19, 2013 in the Haven Convalescent Home. She was born February 8, 1919 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late George J. and Aniela Gerula Gudyk. She was preceded in death on August 17, 1983 by her husband, the late Andy Gentsy, Sr. whom she married July 30, 1936. Mrs. Gentsy was a homemaker. She was a member of the former St. Michael Church, the Eagles Club, a member of the VFW Post #315 Ladies Auxiliary and was a former auxiliary chaplain for the AmVets. Anne enjoyed bowling, singing and also enjoyed activities at the Haven Convalescent Home where she was a member of the resident council. She is survived by four daughters, Barbara DePaolo of New Castle, Sandra Mraz of Lebanon, PA, Carla Pezzone of New Castle and Andrea Bucci of New Castle; sister, Elizabeth Smith of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Andy Gentsy, Jr.; daughter, Linda Gentsy; sister, Mary Janiel and a brother, John Gudyk. Fred Sparano, Sr., 89, of New Castle passed away the morning of January 20, 2013 at the Overlook Medical Clinic in New Wilmington, Pa. Born in New Castle on March 1, 1923, Fred was the son of the late Fred and Mary DeLillo Sparano. Preceding him in death on October 12, 2004 is his wife, the former Theresa V. DiBiase, who he married on February 25, 1943. Fred was a devoted member of St. Vitus Church where he was also an usher. He was a WWII veteran serving with the US Army Air Corps in Europe. He retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Fred was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed playing bocce. Survivors include his son, Fred Sparano, Jr. and his wife Sandy of New Castle; his stepson, Alex Pagley of CA; one brother, Joseph Sparano of New Castle; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Fred is preceded in death by his step daughter, Lucille Sommerfield, two brothers, Pete Sparano, James Sparano and his sister, Margaret Chrobak. Rose Passarette, 92, of Johns St., formerly of S. Mercer St., passed away the afternoon of January 21, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on March 25, 1920, Rose was the daughter of the late Angelo and Carrie Bullano Sands. Preceding her in death on October 24, 1988, was her husband, Joseph “BoBo” Passarette, who she married on June 20, 1940. Rose was a devoted member of St. Vitus Church and worked tirelessly as a volunteer yearly for their bazaar. She was the last surviving member of the Round Up Club. Rose enjoyed visiting casinos and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Survivors include two children, Annette Appugliese and her husband Frank of New Castle; Bernadette Frank and her husband Joseph of New Castle; her brothers, John Sands and his wife Christy of Las Vegas, NV; Vincent Sands and his wife Betty of New Castle; five grandchildren, Doug(Janine)Bennett, Michelle(Brian)Crisci, Beth (Tyler)Krivosh, Joseph(Lisa)Frank, Eugene(Mia)Frank and eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Bennett, Doug Bennett, Briana Crisci, Mason Crisci, Louis DiCaprio, Luke Krivosh, Joseph Frank and Michael Frank. In addition to her parents and husband, Rose is preceded in death by three sisters, Sue Bianchi, Mary Stone and Frances Sands. Visitation is Thursday from 10AM to 11:30AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 11:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12Noon. Rev. Father Frank Almade, pastor of St. Vitus Church, will officiate. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Mausoleum.

Jean M. Terranova, 88, of New Castle passed away the morning of January 22, 2013 at the Jameson Care Center. Born in New Castle on February 10, 1924, Jean was the daughter of the late Enrico and Alice Trott Gianni. Preceding her in death on January 30, 2006 was her husband, Peter G. Terranova who she married on August 31, 1946. She was member of St. Vitus Church. Jean was a former cafeteria worker for Union School District. She enjoyed working outside in her flower beds, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing bingo and attending Challenges. Survivors include her two children, Mariann Holzworth and her husband Rick of Pulaski; Donna Ritchie Sarbo and her husband William of New Castle; sisters-in-law, Anne (Joseph) Caprara of NJ; Beverly Gianni of Ft. Myers, FL and three grandchildren, Jenine (Mark) DeSalvo, Rick (Kate) Holzworth , Josh Holzworth and fiance Elizabeth Dorogy and her close friend and neighbor, Jenny Zarella. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her sisters, Nellie A. Arena, Mary Cracraft, infant sister, Josephine Gianni, brother, Ben Gianni and son-in-law, Gary Ritchie. Visitation is Thursday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 930AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father Frank Almade of St. Vitus Church will officiate. Entombment will take place at Castle View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
