Lyric Quinn, 1, of Steinbrink Way passed away the evening of December 12, 2012 at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born on July 7, 2011 in New Castle, Lyric was the daughter of Christopher M. Quinn, SR. and Jesse Collins. Lyric was a beautiful baby girl who’s smile would light up a room, a precious angel who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her parents, five brothers, Miquel Collins, Malakyi Young, Lester Young II, Gabriel Boyle, Christopher Quinn, Jr., maternal grandparent, Charlene Collins and her paternal grandparents, Antonio, Sr and Terri Quinn-Taylor. Services will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 1PM at Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Luke Rambo, pastor of the church.

Deborah Lombardo Miller, 61, of Mahoningtown passed away the morning of December 18, 2012 after a brief illness at her residence. Born in New Castle on October 30, 1951, Deborah is the daughter of Peter and Lucy Mastroianni Lombardo. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in New Castle. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Deborah had worked for Crisci Food Equipment Company. Prior to that, she had worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for over twenty years. She loved spending time with her family, friends and had a special love for her dog, Toby. Deborah will be sadly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her mother, Deborah is survived by her sister, Carol Gillette and husband Jerry of Greensburg, Pa and her niece, Allison Haberkorn and her husband Arnold. Visitation is Friday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at 10AM at the funeral home. Rev. Candace (Candy) Anderson

Candace (Candy) Anderson, 63, of 1015 Rebecca St., passed away the evening of Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Jameson Hospital. Candace was born May 3, 1949 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Johnnie Harrison and Rev. Anderson and Mrs. Katherine Wise. Mrs. Anderson was married to Richard (Petey) Anderson for 26 years. Richard preceded her in death July 29, 2000. Candace was a member of Jubilee Ministries International and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends and also enjoyed cooking and baking for the holidays along with watching Home Alone and A Christmas Story with her grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson is survived by four sons, Shawn (Angelique) Anderson, Craig Anderson, Jason Montgomery and Richard (Tawnyssa) Earl all of New Castle; two daughters, Mrs. Christian (Jamie) Miller and Davida Booker both of New Castle; a brother John (Sharon) Harrison and five sisters Mrs. Harold (Carolyn) Herbin, Mrs. Raymond (Andrea) Rice, Mrs. Robert (Tracy) Cobbs, Valerie Wise and Mrs. Ronald (Toni) Gilmore, Sr.; seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Petey, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her sister Teresa Wise and her grandson Marcus Anderson. Calling hours will be held Saturday, December 22 at Jubilee Ministries International, 14 Chartes Street, New Castle, PA 16102 from 10 AM – 12 PM, followed by a Homegoing Service at 12 PM. Dr. Mark Kauffman, Pastor of Jubilee Ministries International will officiate. Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery. Helen M. Malone, 99, passed away the evening of December 24, 2012 at the Trinity Living Center in Grove City, Pa. Born on September 3, 1913 in Donora, Pa. Helen was the daughter of the late John and Katie Sudol. Preceding her in death on July 28, 2008 is her husband, Alton J. Malone who she married in 1958. Survivors include her children, Betty Ghrist of New Castle; Carol Foster of Manassas, VA; Robert Malone of Struthers, Oh; two brothers, Rudy Sudol of CA; Walter Sudol of OH; one sister, Mary Sudol of AZ; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by one son, James Malone, four brothers and five sisters. Visitation is Friday, December 28, 2012 from 10AM to 11AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Dorothy A. Fazzone, 97, of Jameson Place passed away the morning of December 28, 2012 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born in New Castle on November 16, 1915, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John W. and Anna Marino Fair. Preceding her in death on July 18, 1980 is her husband Anthony C. Fazzone, who she married on November 16, 1950. Dorothy was a member of St. Vitus Church. She retired as a school crossing guard working for the New Castle Area School. Prior to that, she had worked as a clerk for Strouss Department Store. She was a former member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Shoaff of New Castle; her brother, Jack Fair of New Castle; two sisters, Laura Caravella, Evelyn Vitanovich, both of New Castle; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her three sisters, Marie Diana, Margaret Fair, infant Evelyn Fair and her two brothers, Thomas L. Fair and Joseph Fair. Visitation is Monday, December 31, 2012, from 9AM to 10:30AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Anna M. Joseph, 91, of E. Clen-Moore Blvd. passed away the morning of December 28, 2012 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born in New Castle on March 21, 1921, Anna was the daughter of the late Louis and Cecelia Gabriel Abraham. Preceding her in death on November 6, 2004 is her husband, Joseph P. Joseph who she married on May 19, 1940. She was a life long member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church and it’s Altar and Rosary Society. Anna retired as an owner of the Big J. Supermarket. Anna was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose life revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia Pidro and her husband Sam, Joanne Amodie, both of New Castle; her brother, Robert Michael Abraham and his wife Kathy; her sisters, Teresa Moses, Rose Mitchell, Lucille Abraham, all of New Castle; sister-in-law, Marian Abraham of New Castle; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna is preceded in death by her son, Dr. Ronald Joseph and daughter-in-law, Marianne Joseph, her sister, Jennie Elias Thomas, two brothers and sister-in-law, John and Betty Abraham, Thomas Abraham, two brother-in-laws, John Moses, Ed Mitchell and her son-in-law, Larry Amodie. Visitation is Sunday from 1PM to 5PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Helen L. Seamans, 90, of Neshannock Township, New Castle, PA passed away the afternoon of December 28, 2012 in Jameson Care Center. She was born in Volant, PA on May 20, 1922 to Jesse and Birdella Hunter Carr. Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred. They were married 53 years and retired from Hillbrook Apartment Complex in Richmond Heights, Ohio, in 1981 to build a home on Greenfield Road. She is survived by three daughters: Mary Jane Lesher of Medina, Ohio; Connie Bakunas of Columbus, Ohio and Peggy Rohr of Centerville, Ohio as well as three sisters-in-law: Mary (Howard) Carr of Grove City, Millie (Theron) Carr of Pittsburgh and June (Ernest) Carr. She will be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren: Ken Lesher of Maryland, Jaime Lesher Adkins of South Carolina, Jackie Lesher Murdock of Ohio, Kristine Lesher Clemens of North Carolina, Jeff Bakunas of Ohio, Shannon Bakunas Fausnaugh of Ohio, Rob Rohr of Ohio and Melissa Rohr of Ohio along with eleven great grandchildren. She wished to thank her friend Turza Marett along with her children John and Darleen Marett and Craig and Judy Marett and families for including her as part of their family activities and dinners over the years. She also wished to express a very special thank you to her “adopted Northview children”, Thelma and Glenn Turner (and their children Brad and Jill) whose daily visits and loving care allowed her to remain in her home for as long as possible. She also thanks Virginia McCann, and her numerous family members, neighbors and friends who visited her, brought food and brightened her days. Her appreciation is extended to Rev. Gilbert of the Independent Methodist Church where she and Fred were longtime members. Helen is preceded in death by four brothers: Howard Carr, Theodor Carr, Theron Carr and Ernest Carr as well as her sister, Blanche Carr Barron. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. A service will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Reverend Frederick Gilbert of Independent Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.

Born in New Castle on December 12, 1916, Lucy was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Perrotta Augustine. Preceding her in death on October 1, 1997 was her husband, Frank F. Colella who she married on August 26, 1941. Lucy was a member of St. Vitus Church and a former member of the St. Vitus Christian Mother’s. She was a former employee of the G. C. Murphy Company. Survivors include her two children, Francis (Frank) Colella and his wife Patricia of New Castle; Jeanne Prossen and her husband Fred, of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Mary Colella of Canfield, Oh; five grandchildren, Brian Prossen, Madeline Colella Pagan, Natalie Colella Jenyk, Matthew Prossen, Francesca Lucia Colella and four great-grandchildren, Daniel Pagan, J.R. Prossen, Dominic Pagan and Gia Prossen. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucy was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Michael Colella, her brother, John Augustine and four sisters, Margaret DiCarlo, Elva Graziani, Rose Rotunno and Julia Gianni. He was born on May 2, 1963 in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Robert and Anna Mae Springer Kardell. David enjoyed working on cars and electronics. He loved spending time with his family, friends, his dog, Bones and his bird, Petey. Survivors include his four stepchildren, Rose Cross and her husband Kevin, Steve Karenbauer, Charles Karenbauer, James Karenbauer, all of New Castle; his brother, Robert R. Burlett of Pittsburgh; seven sisters, Mary Lou Haybarger and husband Sam of New Castle; Louise Kardell of Pittsburgh; Robin Schmidt and husband Russ of Pittsburgh; Kim Kardell of Pittsburgh; Rose Ann Kardell of Pittsburgh; Tina Marie George of Pittsburgh; Mary Ann Kardell of Pittsburgh and eight grandchildren. In addition to his parents David is preceded in death by his lifelong companion, Sue Anne Brest. There are no calling hours. Born in New Castle on June 8, 1926 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Dominic and Marquerite Tiera Sainato. Surviving is her husband, Albert Christopher, Sr. whom she married on November 29, 1969. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. She retired from Jameson Hospital after twenty years where she worked as a secretary. Marie loved flowers and was a former president of the Shenango Garden Club. In addition to her husband, Marie is survived by step-son, Albert Christopher, Jr. and his wife Mary of New Castle; brother, Bernard Sainato of New Castle; grandson Matthew Christopher; great-grandchildren, Cadence and Addison and nieces, Diane Sainato and Marilyn Zaret and husband Peter. In addition to her parents Marie is preceeded in death by brother, Andrew Sainato; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Sainato and nephew, Ron Sainato. Visitation is Thursday from 5PM – 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Katherine Boyle Abel McGuire, 86, of 913 Lynn Street, New Castle, PA passed away on January 1, 2013. She had been a long time resident of Mt. Lebanon prior to moving to New Castle. Born on September 24, 1926 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Edward and Catherine Servatius Boyle. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband John R. Abel, CPA in 1970. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law with whom she made her home, Jim and Kathy Birtalan of New Castle; her son, Jack Abel (Hope) of Dormont; brother, John E. Boyle of Florida and grandchildren, Jim E. and Connie Birtalan and John and Erin Birtalan of New Castle and Kate Abel of Dormont. She is also survived by the joys of her world, her great grandchildren Jake Birtalan and Lily Katherine Birtalan. She married Charles McGuire in 1985. Katherine was a graduate of Cathedral High School and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of and President of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority. She worked for Mt. Lebanon School District as a teacher until her retirement. She volunteered at Mayview State Hospital. There was no visitation and services were private. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Arrangements by the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle.

Harry Shoaf

Harry William Shoaf, 94, died on January 1, 2013, at his residence at the Overlook Medical Clinic. Mr. Shoaf, a long time resident of Carol Drive in Neshannock Township, was born on April 27, 1918, in New Castle. He was the son of the late Albert and Jeanie McCullough Shoaf. Mr. Shoaf enjoyed a long and eventful life. As a young man, he worked at Shoaf’s Market on Wilmington Avenue, a business started by his father. He served in the Fourth Air Force of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He then went on to work at and retire from the Johnson Bronze Company of New Castle as a draftsman and engineer. In 1948, he married Garnetta Cameron Shoaf, who passed way on August 9, 2009. They were married 61 years. Mr. Shoaf enjoyed singing, Dixieland music, propeller airplanes and critiquing the play of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers.Proud to be a lifelong member of the Democratic Party, he never shied away from talking politics. He loved conversation and the fellowship of his many friends in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He was well known at the Overlook for his daily walks, sense of humor and the candy basket he kept on his bookshelf. He loved dogs. He tolerated cats. He is survived by his son, Dana B. Shoaf and his wife Heidi Campbell-Shoaf of Frederick County, Maryland, and a sister Alma Jean Shoaf, also of the Overlook. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shoaf was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Elsie Shoaf; a sister, Dorothy L. Shoaf; and a brother, Thomas. There will be no calling hours. A service will be held on Saturday at 10AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill ST. Rev. Richard Nero, Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. Burial will take place in the veterans section at Parkside Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Born in New Kensington, Pa. on June 30, 1924, Marian was the daughter of the late Albert and Jora Mahoud Sallie. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the El Fityet Allaween Syrian Association and enjoyed gardening. Marian retired from the New Castle Area School District where she worked as a bus monitor. Survivors include her brother, Charles Sallie of CA; her sister, Rose Hamett of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Nora Lee Sallie of New Castle; her niece, Noel Sallie and nephew, Eric Sallie and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marian is preceded in death by her brother, Earl (Muff) Sallie and sister, Nazera Hamed. Thelma J. Childs , 85 Thelma J. Childs, 85, of Old Princeton Rd. passed away the afternoon of January 3, 2013 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital. She was born on May 29, 1927 in Masontown, PA to the late Ralph and Thelma Charleton Rhoades. Thelma married James E. Childs on December 22, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2000. Thelma retired from Lawrence County Career and Technical School where she worked in the cafeteria. In earlier years she worked for Shenango China. She was a devoted member of Independent Methodist Church and loved nature, flowers, working in her yard and especially spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Thelma is survived by a son David W. Childs of Zanesville OH; three grandchildren Slater, Brenton and Megan; and one great-grandchild, Noele. In addition to her parents and husband Thelma is preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Rhoades, Eugene Rhoades and William Rhoades and a sister, Raenell Rhoades. He was born on February 21, 1927 in Hillsville, Pa., a son of the late Beatrice and Adamo Zarlingo. Surviving at home is his wife of fifty four years, the former Ruth L. Conti, who he married in 1958. Orlando was a veteran of the US Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC. He then went on to work for Sharon Steel Corporation, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Christ the King Parish. Orlando enjoyed watching football and NASCAR. In addition to his wife, Orlando is survived by his son, Robert A. Zarlingo and his wife Marie Durkin Zarlingo and one grandson, Christopher Yates. He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Joseph Zarlingo, James Zarlingo, Eugene Zarlengo, Oriento Zarlingo, William Zarlingo, Orest Zarlingo and three sisters, Tillie Dimperio, Rose Modarelli and Delphine Weinrich. There will be no calling hours and services are private. Burial will take place at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd.
