Freda S. Zollinger, 94, of Jameson Care Center passed away the afternoon of September 28, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on August 31, 1920 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Anna Meyndt Greaf. On December 29, 1945, she married her beloved husband, Louis Walter Zollinger, and the two spent 52 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on February 21, 1998. Freda attended the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading and watching TV. Freda is survived by her brother, Robert Greaf and wife Beverly of New Castle; niece whom she raised, Patricia Maga of New Castle; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew Mendt and John Greaf, Jr.; sisters, Anna Nemeth and Minnie Prediger; and godchild, Laura Kenn. Mary K. Bucci, 96, of New Castle passed away the morning of September 30, 2014 at Carriage Court Personal Care Facility. Born on November 18, 1917 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Falkeman Tencer. After 41 years of marriage, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles L. Lutz, in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Henry Dionisio Bucci, on November 15, 2012. Mary belonged to the German Beneficial Union Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She loved to bake and cook. Mary is survived by her son, Charles L. Lutz and wife Donna of New Castle; sisters, Elizabeth Cwynar of Hubbard, OH and Helen Korzek of Milford, MI; brother, Ben Tencer of New Castle; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Evelyn Romonsky; sister, Ann Calderwood; and brothers, Joseph, George, and Adam Tencer. Albert DiGennaro
Albert J. DiGennaro, 61, of New Castle passed away the morning of September 28, 2014 at his residence. Born on March 29, 1953 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Albert and Inez Mastrodi DiGennaro. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of 35 years, the former Luann Nicholson, whom he married on October 14, 1978. For over 30 years, Albert worked for the city of New Castle in the Public Works Department. He belonged to St. Joseph the Worker Church. He was a 1971 graduate of New Castle High School. Albert always said that the best time of his life was in the delivery room watching his two children come into the world. He was so proud of them. When asked what three words best describe him, his answer was: impatient, impetuous, and intense. That was Albert. He loved his family, friends, the Pittsburgh Steelers, making people laugh, and telling stories. In addition to his wife, Albert is survived by his children, Anthony DiGennaro of Las Vegas, NV and Carly DiGennaro and fiancé Andrew Wallick of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Barbara Ferrante of Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law, Diana Gealy and husband Ed of Volant, PA, Elizabeth Zadroga and husband Ted of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Cindy Brown and husband Richard of New Castle; brother-in-law, Tim Nicholson and wife Barb of New Castle; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Richard Ferrante. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Albert will be held Thursday at 5:00pm at Gaston Park Shelter #9, officiated by Rev. Richard Nero. Paul Sniezek
Paul John Sniezek, 66, of Neshannock Township passed away on September 28, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born on May 12, 1948 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Anna Sniezek. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife, the former Janice Zona. A 1966 graduate of Union Area High School, Paul retired from his job as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service after working for 37 years. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Paul belonged to V.F.W. Post 8755 in Sheffield, Polish Falcons of New Castle, Warren Electric Golf League, and Penn State Alumni Association of Lawrence County. He was a member of St. Camillus Church. He also was an avid golfer and was a true fan of Penn State and the Steelers. Paul was a gentle, caring man who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his children, Dr. Matthew Sniezek and wife Alison of Pittsburgh, PA, Janalee Patton and fiancé Rick Pierce of New Castle, Dr. Jack Fulkman and wife Dr. Debra Palazzi of League City, TX, and Christopher Fulkman of New Castle; step-children, Nicole Derbaum of Seven Fields, PA and Cara Reinard and husband Justin of Mars, PA; sisters, Delores Koscinski and husband Thomas of New Castle and Kathleen Matonak and husband William of Connecticut; grandchildren, Hailey Fulkman, Zachary Fulkman, Jake Fulkman, Ian Derbaum, Connor Derbaum, Jackson Reinard, and Charlotte Reinard; several nephews; and a niece. James Wyle
A shining light of 69 years went out with the passing of James R. Wyle, III of New Castle, PA on the afternoon of October 2, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, PA. Born on October 3, 1944 in Stow, OH, he was the son of the late James R. II and Jessie Woods Wyle. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife, the former Debbie Bales. James worked as a union negotiator for the United Rubber Workers and United Steelworkers of America. He loved fishing and RV’ing. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, James will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew him. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, James Wyle IV of Kent, OH and Krista Wyle of Seattle, WA; step-children, Rachel Tinsley and husband Robert of Moody, AL and Bobbi Arthur and husband Kyle of Kernersville, NC; and grandchild, Zachary Karabinus. Beverly Wise
Beverly A. Wise, 69, of New Wilmington, PA passed away the morning of September 27, 2014 in Jameson Hospital. She was born January 27, 1945 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Anderson, Sr. and Dorothy Campbell Wise. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be missed by her family. Beverly is survived by three children, Davitta Wise of Alliance, OH, Kevin Wise of New Castle and Jerina Wise of Alliance, OH; two brothers, George Wise of New Castle and Lorenzo Wise of Youngstown, OH; four sisters, Joy Waters of Maryland, Shirley Samuels and Geraldine Love both of New Castle and Thomasina Howell of Alliance, OH; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lorali Wise and five brothers, Cleveland, Charles, Robert, Sr., Elder Anderson, Jr. and Cornelius Wise. Myrtle Session
Myrtle L. Session, 84, of North Round St. passed away the evening of October 5, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born on July 30, 1930 in Marianna, Pa., Myrtle was the daughter of the late Harlan W.D. and Mabel E. Shaw Brice. Preceding her in death on August 23, 2005 is her husband Robert Session, whom she married on June 17, 1951. Myrtle was a homemaker and a member of the Prevailing Word World Outreach Center. She loved writing and sending encouraging words to her loving family and friends. Myrtle is survived by her children, Robin Session-Cain and her husband Jim of New Castle; Gary Session and wife Donna of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Ellen Jayne Bell Robinson of New Castle; three grandchildren, Jarrett and wife Michelle, Ryan, Justin; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Myrtle was preceded in death by her daughters, Beverly Ann Session, Bonnie Gaye Session, infant brother, Leonard James Brice and her sister, Sara Elizabeth Brice. Norma Sheldone
Norma J. Moses Sheldone, 78, of New Castle passed away after a courageous battle with cancer the morning of October 8, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on May 14, 1936 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma Albert Moses. Surviving her at home is her beloved husband of 51 years, Carmen Sheldone Jr., whom she married on June 1, 1963. Norma previously worked at JuneDale Cash Market and Holiday Inn and later retired from the advertising department for the New Castle News. She was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Church and was the Secretary and Treasurer of the Mary Martha Guild of St. Joseph. She also belonged to People Concerned for the Unborn Child. A compassionate woman, Norma devoted her time to volunteering for the food pantry, and she crocheted blankets to take to local nursing homes. In addition to her husband, Norma is survived by her children, Carmen R. Sheldone III of New Castle, Jimmy Sheldone and wife Karen of New Castle, and Billy Sheldone of Uniontown, PA; brother, Norman A. Moses and wife Carolle of New Castle; and grandchildren, Randy and Rachel. Gary Fishe
Gary A. Fishe, 53, of E. Wallace Ave passed away the morning of October 9, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on March 28, 1961 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late J.C. and Doris Pinkney Fish. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife, the former Jodi L. Houk, whom he married on August 17, 2001. Gary worked for Jameson Memorial Hospital in the Central Supply unit. He belonged to St. Paul Baptist Church. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Gary enjoyed going to the casino. A basketball player for New Castle High School, he also was an avid lover of all sports. In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his brothers, James Fish and wife Beverly of Castle Rock, CO, Larry Fish and wife Yvonne of Avondale, PA, and Jay Fish and companion Sharon Jones of New Castle; sisters, Mary Fishe, Patricia Diane McCarter, and Gloria Holness and husband Mark, all of New Castle; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Tim Jinks, Bobby and Crystal Houk, Doug and Angela Houk, Kenny and Shannon Anderson, and Kip Anderson and companion Renée. John Edwards
John M. Edwards, 60, of New Castle passed away the evening of October 9, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born on August 18, 1954 in Ellwood City, PA, he was the son of the late Melvin and Laura Louise Phillips Edwards. John worked as a general contractor. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. A sports enthusiast, he loved baseball and football. He loved helping others with their various needs, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John is survived by his children, Amanda Gail Knox and husband Brian of New Castle, Emily Jean Caroline of Youngstown, OH, John L. Edwards and wife Jennifer of New Castle; brothers, Gary Lee Edwards, Sr. and wife Erma, Douglas J. Edwards and wife Carol, and Tracy Edwards and wife Terese, all of Mt. John Rogan
John E. Rogan, 91, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of October 7, 2014 at the Community Living Hospice of the Butler VA. Born on June 13, 1923 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Frank and Clara Rhodes Rogan. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of 70 years, the former Jean Jewell, whom he married on June 22, 1944. John retired from his position as an assembly erector for Mesta Machine. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. A truly devout man of his faith, John went on four missionary trips with Rev. L. A. LaGatta, travelling to Trinidad and Tobago, Indonesia, Guatemala, and Singapore. He enjoyed watching the Pirates and Yankees, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Jack Rogan and wife Jane of Portersville, PA and Nancy Leslie and husband David of New Castle, five grandchildren, and twelve grandchildren. Mary Sergi
Mary L. Sergi, 74, of Beaver Falls, PA passed away the morning of October 6, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley. Born in Manhattan, NY on January 26, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Sabatino Ramirez. In 1966, she married her beloved husband, Lawrence Sergi, and the two spent over 46 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on April 9, 2013. Mary grew up in Washington Heights, NY and eventually settled in Manhasset, NY to raise her family. She retired as an administrative assistant for the Nassau County Police Department Detective Unit for the 6th Precinct. Mary had a keen eye for fashion and had been employed at Macy’s Department Store where she won Salesperson of the Year in Manhasset, NY. She belonged to St. Mary’s Church in Manhasset, NY. Known as a wonderful cook and hostess, Mary loved to entertain. She also loved music, art, dancing, and traveling. Mary is survived by her children, Christine Gillow and husband Jeff of Castle Pines, CO and Andrea Piccione and husband Tom Jr. of Chippewa Township, PA; grandchildren Thomas Michael Piccione III and Christopher Lawrence Piccione; sister-in-law Beatrice Ramirez; and niece Leonora of Staten Island, NY. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Ramirez. Richard M. DelPrincipe, 59, of Greenville, PA, passed away the morning of October 9, 2014 at his residence. Born on August 11, 1955 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Helen Majeski DelPrincipe. Richard worked as a welder for Miller Industries. He also served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed hunting. Jahmia J. Ward, 23, of New Castle passed away on October 2, 2014 in New Castle. Born on April 17, 1991 in Sharon, PA, he was the son of Jay Ward and Regina Branch Washington. Jahmia was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. He graduated from Ardrey Kell High School as a part of the Class of 2010. He enjoyed music and fishing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Jahmia is survived by his step-father, Toby Washington of Charlotte, NC; sister, Juerena Branch of Charlotte, NC; and step-brother, Hassiem Craig of New Castle. James Nestasie
James Nestasie, 91, of Edinburg, PA, passed away the afternoon of October 13, 2014 at Windsor House at Champion. Born on April 11, 1923 in Hillsville, PA, he was the son of the late Dominic and Theresa Loccissano Nestasie. Surviving him is his beloved wife of 68 years, the former Anne Tutino, whom he married on October 12, 1946. James retired from his job as a manager for American Life and Accident. He also worked in Purchasing at Jameson Hospital. He previously graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Business. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army. A devout member of Christ the King Parish, James was a previous member of the parish council and an usher, and he also was the treasurer for the Holy Name Society of St. Lawrence Church. He also formerly served as president of the Lions Club, and he loved golfing. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Tressa DeMatteis and husband Richard of Hubbard, OH, Kathleen Oris of Champion, OH, and Dominick Nestasie and wife Norma of Delmont, PA; sister, Anne Cassamento of Warren, OH; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Nestasie; and sisters, Mary Barbero, Catherine Tutino, and Rose Palmer. Theresa Gillest
Theresa Marie Gillest, formerly of New Castle, PA, passed away unexpectedly on her maternal grandfather’s birthday, October 12, 2014, in Monterey Park, CA. Born on Feb. 26, 1950 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence “Tracy” Gillest and Bernadine “Bella” Santangelo Gillest. Theresa graduated from New Castle High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Penn State University. Continuing her love of education and travel, she moved to Southern California in 1978. Upon deciding teaching was not the path she wanted to take, she earned a degree in Accounting from University of Pittsburgh and then a Master’s Degree in Business Management from University of Southern California. She continued her career in business management for several law firms in Los Angeles before retiring. Through the years, Theresa formed many lasting friendships across the country. A fun loving and strong willed woman, she enjoyed traveling and entertaining her family and friends who will miss her outgoing personality and charm. She is survived by three loving sisters, Kathleen (Bill) Martin of Columbus, OH, Bernadette (George) Ross and Laura Lee Gillest, both of New Castle, and her companion, Jim Passou of Monterey Park, CA. She loved her two nieces and three nephews “more than life itself” —as she often told them— as well as her three great-nieces and two great-nephews. She will be sadly missed by all the friends that she counted as her family. Honoring Theresa’s wishes, there will be no services held.
Robert Kerr
Robert C. Kerr, Sr., 73, of New Castle passed away the morning of October 16, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospice of Heritage Valley. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on February 28, 1941, Robert was the son of the late Harry and Jean Herzer Kerr. Surviving at home is his loving wife, the former Geraldine Stofick, whom he married on September 9, 1961. Robert was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. He retired from B&O Railroad where he worked as a brakeman. Robert was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed golf and was a founding member of the BIO Golf League. Robert was also a member of the Unione Calabrese Americana Society. Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his greatest joy was the times he spent with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his three children, Elizabeth Aven of Port St. Lucie, FL; Robert C. Kerr, Jr. of New Castle; Natalie Kerr of Honolulu, HI; his grandchild, Daniel Aven and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack Kerr, Harry Kerr and two sisters, Jean Kelley and Joan Harris. Elizabeth Pecano
Elizabeth (Betsy) Pecano, 63, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of October 16, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born April 18, 1951 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Glen and Hope Tindall. On May 7, 1977, she married her beloved husband, John R. Pecano, and the two spent 33 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on January 5, 2011. After more than 29 years of working, Elizabeth retired as the Human Resource Director for Sears in New Castle. A devout member of St. Camillus Church who was strong in her faith, she was the church’s organist for many years. Elizabeth loved music and animals. She will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew her. Elizabeth is survived by her son, John G. Pecano of Boardman, OH, mother-in-law, Virginia Pecano of New Castle, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Andrea and Henry Bucci of Atlanta, GA. Edna Mae Pezone, 96, of New Castle, formerly of Hazel St, passed away October 19, 2014 at Jameson Care Center. Born on November 22, 1917 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Edward Varley and Bertha Mumbaugh Varley Diamond. On November 21 1940, she married her beloved husband, Rodger Pezone, and the two spent 60 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on April 9, 2001. Edna was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Edna is survived by her daughters, Carole Mastrangelo and Debbie Hershberger and husband Terry, all of New Castle; grandchildren, George Mastrangelo, Susan Flamino and husband Brian, Mark Mastrangelo, and Michael Mastrangelo; and great-grandchildren, Ali Flamino, Lea Flamino, and Christina Flamino. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her step-father, Louis Diamond; sister, Virginia Fundoots; brothers, Albert and Edward Varley; and son-in-law, George Mastrangelo. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A blessing service will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30am at the funeral home, officiated by Father William Siple of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Entombment will take place at Parkside Mausoleum.
Ralph Peluso
Ralph S. (Duke) Peluso, 85, of New Castle, formerly of Mabel St., passed away the afternoon of October 18, 2014 at his residence. Born on April 9, 1929 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Patsy V. and Elizabeth Dando Peluso. In 1991, Ralph retired from his job as manager for Adelphia Cable, and, prior to that, he worked as a district manager for Baltimore Life Insurance. He previously served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Ralph was an avid golfer and loved to travel, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ralph is survived by his children, Lynn Seitz and husband Dennis of Norcross, GA, Laura DeSimone, Mary L. Peluso, Gina Colangelo and husband Thomas, and Barbara Nicholson and husband Tim, all of New Castle; longtime best friend, Theresa Burgo of New Castle; former wife, Mary Carol Peluso of New Castle; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary L. Patton, Helen C. Monaco, and Christina Carungi. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Thursday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Vitus Church, officiated by Father William Siple. Entombment will take place at Parkside Mausoleum.
