Kay DeCarbo

Mary Kathryn Hamilton DeCarbo, 98, known to everyone as Kay, passed away the morning of August 30, 2014 in New Castle. Born on July 5, 1916 in Dayton, Ohio, Kay was the daughter of the late George Oscar and Martha Ewry Hamilton. Preceding her in death on May 9, 1993, is her husband, the former mayor of New Castle and local funeral director for many years, Edward A. DeCarbo, Sr., whom she married on June 5, 1943. Kay was a member of St. Vitus Church. She was a graduate of the Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio. During World War II, Kay worked as a registered nurse at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and a former member of the St. Francis Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and following the Pittsburgh Pirates. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Edward A. DeCarbo, Jr. of Manhattan, N.Y.; Donald G. DeCarbo and his wife Ann of New Castle; three grandchildren, Rosalyn Maitland and her husband Bill of New Castle; Vanessa DeCarbo of Manhattan, N.Y; Edward J. DeCarbo and his wife Melissa of New Castle; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew Maitland, Marina Maitland and Ilaria DeCarbo. In addition to her parents and husband, Kay is preceded in death by her sister, Frances Elizabeth (Betty) Hamilton and her brother, Donald E. Hamilton. Visitation is Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held on Wednesday at 12 P.M. at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Father James Downs, pastor of Christ the King Parish. Harlan Mone

Harlan A. Mone, Sr., 73, passed away August 30, 2014 at his residence in Neshannock Township. Born in New Castle on March 15, 1941, Harlan was the son of the late Harlan and Jennie Venturella Mone (Mooney). Preceding him in death on February 27, 2014 is his wife, the former Veronica May Tempesta, whom he married on June 27, 1987. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. Harlan was a graduate of Shenango High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Youngstown State University and a Master’s Degree in Criminology from Edinboro University. Harlan enjoyed a long career in law enforcement. He began his career as a Deputy Sheriff for Lawrence County, and went on to become a parole and probation officer, also for Lawrence County. He was a member and director of Law Enforcement and Licensing for the Pennsylvania State and Horseracing Commission in Harrisburg, Pa. Following retirement, he moved back to New Castle and worked as a security guard for St. Francis Hospital and Jameson Hospital. Harlan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and cherished being surrounded by his grandchildren and telling them stories. He is survived by his son, Harlan A. Mone, Jr. of New Castle; his sister, Jeanne Mone of New Castle; and his three grandchildren, Anthony Mone, Madison Mone and Matteo Mone. Visitation is Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Michael Orelli

Michael L. Orelli, Jr., 67, of Hazen St passed away the afternoon of August 22, 2014 at his residence. Born on February 14, 1947 in New Castle, he is the son of the late Michael Sr. and Kathleen McCall Orelli. Surviving him at home is his longtime companion, Vickie Caulfield. Michael retired from his position as Track Foreman for P & LE Railroad. He also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. Very active in his local veterans’ associations, Michael served as Commander of V.F.W. Post 315 for 11 years, an All State Commander for the PA V.F.W., and a service officer of V.F.W. He also belonged to the American Legion and served on the Lawrence County Veterans Council. Michael also enjoyed fishing. In addition to his companion, Michael is survived by his children, Michael Orelli of Phoenix, AZ and Lisa Ciavarino and husband Chris of Hermitage, PA; step-son, Anthony Flamino of New Castle; brothers, Fred and Leo Orelli, both of New Castle; and grandchildren, Cecilia Marie Ciavarino and Eli Nathaniel Orelli. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Orelli, Sr. Private services were held at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St, officiated by Reverend Frederick Gilbert.

Marion Owoc

Marion Walter Owoc, 82, of Union Township, passed away the evening of August 31, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on July 5, 1932 in New Castle, he is the son of the late Peter and Rose Buczek Owoc. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of 56 years, the former Betty Cwiakala, whom he married on August 30, 1958. After working for more than 20 years, Marion retired as an inspector for Rockwell International. He also previously served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Marion is a former member of Madonna Church and also belonged to the Polish Falcons. He loved bowling, golf, and polka dancing. A sports enthusiast, Marion loved to watch Pittsburgh’s teams and his grandson’s soccer games. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Marion is survived by his sons, David Owoc and wife Adele of Shelby, NC and Tom Owoc of New Castle; grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and Jacob Owoc; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Julian and Eugene Owoc, and sister, Clara Lance. Honoring his wishes, no calling hours are planned, and private services will be held at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd, officiated by Father Frank Almade. Mary Carmen Medvit, 91, of Union Township passed away the evening of September 2, 2014 at Avalon Nursing Home. Born on June 19, 1923 in New Castle, she is the daughter of the late Pasquale and Carmella DiCostanzo Zito. Surviving is her beloved husband of 62 years, Steve Medvit, whom she married on June 21, 1952. In her earlier years, Mary worked as a payroll clerk for Shenango China and as a sales clerk for Strouss Department Store. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Mary will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who lived for her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children, Mark Medvit and wife Nadine of Rome, NY and James Medvit and wife Lottie of New Castle, and six grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Zito, and sister, Nickoletta Zito. Visitation will take place Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Vitus Church. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Mausoleum. Robert D. Frazier, 64, of New Castle, PA, died Saturday, August 31, 2014. He was born July 17, 1950 in New Castle, PA and was the son of the late Harold James, Sr. & Mary Ellen McClimans Frazier. He is survived by his Son Robert Dale Frazier Jr. and his daughter in-law Irene and grandsons Jesse Robert and Casey Benjamin Frazier; three step children Albert, Paula and Bill Andrasik of Easly, SC; five brothers Harold (Jim) Frazier, Jr. of Sunrise Beach, TX, John R. (Jack) Frazier of St. Augustine, FL, Charles L. Frazier of Butler, PA, Richard H. Frazier of Gilbert, AZ and Jeffrey L. Frazier of New Castle, PA and four sisters Martha A. Brenton of Mount Gilead, NC; Marlene Barbour, Mt. Airy, MD Sharlene McCubbin, Baltimore, MD and Audrey J. Gaiser of New Castle, PA and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers David D. Frazier and Kenneth E. Frazier. A memorial service will be held October 4, 2014 in a location to be determined by the family. Burial will be in Savannah Cemetery.

Loretta Michalojko

Loretta A. Michalojko, 65, of Hazelcroft Avenue passed away in the early morning of September 6, 2014, at Jameson Hospice from complications due to cancer. Born on March 5, 1949 in Aliquippa, PA, she was the daughter of the late James “Jinx” and Ann Marie DeSalle Bologna. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Michael D. Michalojko of New Castle, her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Leigh (Pacelli) Michalojko and grand-dog Nyla of Osprey, FL. She graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1967 and subsequently the Wheeler School for Business and Fashion. Loretta worked for L’Eggs Corporation and First Seneca Bank of New Castle. She was a partner in Joshua Vending and worked in the family businesses at Colonial Lanes and the former Shenango Bowl-A-Way. She and her husband were partners in Monte De Oro Winery in Temeculah, CA. Loretta was the love of Michael’s life and a devoted mother to Joshua. Loretta’s many interests included gourmet cooking, extensive travel, entertaining and experiencing food and wine with family and friends. Loretta had the ability to turn a stranger into a friend wherever she went. Her strength and determination in fighting cancer for 18 years was an inspiration to all who knew her. She had been a Eucharistic Minister for Madonna of Czestochowa Church and contributed to many activities including Madonna’s Easter Egg Festival. Loretta was involved in the American Cancer Society and the Polish Falcons. For the last several winters she loved spending time in Venice, FL where she made many friends. In addition to her husband and son, she is also survived by a sister, Regina Abraham of Monaca, PA, mother-in-law, Eleanor (Rozak) Michalojko of New Castle, brother-in-law, Robert Michalojko, and sister-in-law, Charla Michalojko of Marshall Township, PA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Genna (Chad) Hill of Phoenix, AZ, Caleb (Sarah) Abraham of Crafton, PA, Meredith Michalojko of Sherman Oaks, CA, and MacKenzie Michalojko of Marshall Township. In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Michael “Mickey” Michalojko. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Richard R. Mora, 57, of New Castle passed away on September 6, 2014 at his residence. Born on April 7, 1957 in New Castle, Richard was the son of the late William V. and Eleanor Pisciuneri Mora. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Richard worked for John Mangino Contracting where he had worked as a home remodeler. He enjoyed gardening and was a great cook who would take dinners he lovingly prepared to others. Richard will be remembered as having a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He is survived by his two sisters, Mary Sikora of West Middlesex; Christina Heaney of Seal Beach, CA; his three nieces, whom he loved spending time with, Stephanie Sikora, of West Middlesex; Vanessa Sikora of Sharon; Jennifer Heaney of West Middlesex; his nephew, Lucas Heaney of Michigan and one great-nephew, Jacob Vogan of West Middlesex. Visitation is Wednesday from 11:00AM to 12:30PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Anna L. Dean, 92, of New Castle passed away the morning of September 4, 2014 at Jameson Care Center. Born on August 7, 1922 in New Castle, she is the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Dudash. On August 23, 1944, she married her beloved husband, Harold Munson Dean, and the two spent 63 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on February 3, 2008. Anna was a 70 year member of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, and she also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 315. Anna loved nature, gardening, and sewing. Anna is survived by her children, Cheryl Lombardo and husband Joe of Phoenix, AZ, Paula Devido and husband William, Larry H. Dean, and Dennis Dean and wife Jean, all of New Castle; step-son, Daniel Dean and wife Barbara of Florida; sister, Elizabeth Beckwith of Rome, NY; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Linda Dean, nine brothers, and one sister. Private services were held at Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, officiated by Pastor Brady Randall. Interment took place at Parkside Cemetery. Donna Leigh Rotz, 65, of New Castle passed away the evening of Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1949, she was the daughter of Donna Webber of New Castle and the late Carman Rotz. She graduated from New Castle High School and became a licensed practical nurse. Leigh worked for several local medical offices. She was a gentle, kind person who was always willing to help everyone. Leigh enjoyed cooking, music, shopping, still life painting, and spending time with her nephews and nieces. She will be sadly missed by her mother, relatives, and her many friends. Survivors include her mother, Donna Webber; her brothers, Albert Rotz and Jerry Rotz; and her sister, Lisa Partin; all of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews. Anna Bosco, 98, of New Castle, formerly of Huey Street, passed away the evening of September 12, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on January 16, 1916 in New Castle, she is the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Vitale Russo. Also preceding her in death on November 26, 1963 was her beloved husband, Joseph Bosco. Anna worked for Castlebrand Meats and in Dietary at St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Anna belonged to the Ladies Guild of St. Vitus Church and St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. Anna is survived by her daughter with whom she made her home, Rosalyn Uber of New Castle; sister, Laura Faraone of Sinking Spring, PA; grandchildren, Carin Bosco, Louis Bosco, Jr. and wife Mary Lou, Joseph Bosco and wife Jennifer, and Adrienne Langguth and husband Michael; and great-grandchildren, Maria, Teresa, Michael, Moriah, Eden, Judah, and Dannah Bosco. Mary Gillette, 89, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Federal Street in New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 15, 2014 at St. Margaret’s Hospital. Born on February 14, 1925 in Harrisville, PA, she is the daughter of the late Mary Accia. Surviving her at home is her beloved husband of 68 years, Francis Gillette, whom she married on October 27, 1945. Mary was a member of St. Vitus Church. In her youth, Mary enjoyed dancing with a special love for tap dancing. In addition, she was known for being an excellent cook and baker. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she always looked forward to holidays with family and friends enjoying her bakery treats. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children, Jerry Gillette and wife Carol of Greensburg, PA, Gary Gillette and wife Karen of New Castle, and Randy Gillette of New Castle; grandchildren, Allison Haberkorn and husband A.J., Brad Gillette and wife Michaelene, Kim Gillette, Brian Gillette, and Randy Gillette Jr.; three great-grandchildren; 23 nieces and nephews; and her caregiver and neighbor Kathy Beltz of New Castle. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her sister, Rose Micco, and brother, Joseph Gervase. Domenica J. (Minnie) DeMonaco, 91, formerly of West Pittsburg, PA passed away the afternoon of September 17, 2014 in Golden Hill Nursing Home. She was born October 10, 1922 in Lowellville, OH and was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Concetta Gambria Tuminello. On May 3, 1941 she married her husband, Alberico DeMonaco. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2003. Mrs. DeMonaco was a sales clerk. She had worked for The Sweet Shoppe which was located at the Town Mall. Minnie loved to cook, Italian music and enjoyed dancing. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed. Mrs. DeMonaco is survived by a daughter, Maria Chieffallo and husband Lou of Chippewa; a son, Mark DeMonaco and wife Roxanne of New Castle; brother, Anthony Tuminello of New Castle; three sisters, Josephine Lombardo, Margaret Mills and husband Earl and Anna Mae Pisciuneri and husband Frank all of New Castle; ten grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas DeMonaco, Michael DeMonaco, Kristi DeMonaco, Angela DeMonaco, Jennifer Ryhal, Markie DeMonaco, Gino DeMonaco, Tony Chieffallo, Dan Chieffallo and Natalie Chieffallo; and five great grandchildren, Jax, Maddox, Avery, Adam and Ryan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Anthony DeMonaco and two brothers, John Tuminello and Albert Tuminello. Dorothy V. D’Ambrocia, 93, of E. Friendship Street; formerly of N. Canton, OH passed away the morning of September 18, 2014 in Jameson Hospital. She was born April 22, 1921 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Paul and Victoria Fazzone DeCarbo. In 1940 she married her husband, Joseph P. D’Ambrocia. He preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. D’Ambrocia had worked as a secretary for Coca Cola Bottling. She also loved being a homemaker and taking care of her home. She enjoyed gardening and was also a seamstress. She is survived by one sister, Pauline M. Dambrocia of New Castle; nephew, Dr. Joseph Dambrocia; niece, Mary Ellen Penwell; great niece, Kelly Penwell Baronick and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Jean D’Ambrocia and two sisters, Jeannette C. Cubellis and Charlotte DeCarbo. Visitation will be Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. Born in New Castle on December 27, 1929, he is the son of the late Pasquale and Jennie Scrim Tempesta. After twenty years of working, David retired from his job as a mechanical engineer for General American Transportation Corporation. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Youngstown State University. David also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He belonged to St. Vitus Church. David is survived by his brother, Francis Tempesta and wife Cheryl of New Castle, and several nieces and nephews. Martha Ann Wise, 70, of New Wilmington, PA passed away the morning of September 21, 2014 at her residence. She was born December 26, 1943 in Monroeville, PA and was the daughter of the late Marko and Anna Schmidt Zuzich. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, William C. Wise. Mrs. Wise was a school teacher; teaching Health and Physical Eduction. She taught at New Castle Area schools and Commodore Perry School in her earlier years and retired from the Wilmington Middle School. Following her retirement, she was a volunteer teacher at St. Vitus Catholic School. She loved flower gardening, baking and spending time at Challenges teaching dance. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and her dogs. She especially loved the time spent with her grandson and watching him play baseball. Martha was a member of St. Vitus Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Chad William Wise of New Castle; a daughter, Brigette A. Scala and husband Raymond of New Castle and a grandson, Raymond Scala. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Zuzich and a sister, Rose Donnelly. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A private mass of christian burial will be held at St. Vitus Church. Father William Siple will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Martha’s memory be made to St. Vitus Catholic School, 915 S. Jefferson Street, New Castle, PA 16101.

Jared D. Bartley, 40, of Shenango Township passed away September 20, 2014 at his residence. He was born August 23, 1974 in New Castle and was the son of Dale and Charlotte Mayberry Bartley. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two children, Nathaniel Bartley and Noah Bartley both of New Castle; and three sisters, Stacey Duncan, Alice Kirkwood and Elizabeth Anderson all of New Castle. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Albert Bartley and his maternal and paternal grandparents. There will be no calling hours. The interment will be in Plain Grove Cemetery and a graveside service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 Noon at the cemetery. Reverend Jim O’Hara of Castlewood Alliance Church will officiate. Arrangements handled by the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street.

Dora (Tootsie) Cook Petrucci, 85, of New Castle died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Haven Nursing Home in New Castle. She was born October 17, 1928 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of the late Dominic and Francis (Malizia) Cook. She married Joseph Petrucci, Sr. on December 28, 1948. He survives in New Castle. Dora was a loving and devoted homemaker whose life revolved around her family. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. In addition to her husband, Dora is survived by her son, Joseph Petrucci, Jr. and wife Cecelia of New Castle; granddaughters, Stacy Conti and husband Richard and Ashley Petrucci; great-grandchildren, Richard and Nicholas Conti; brothers, Chuck, Bob, and Dan Cook, all of New Castle; sisters, Frances “Chickie” Elisco of Florida and Tina Brunswick of New Castle; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy, Dom, Frank, Norman, and John Cook, and sisters, Judy Cook and Lucille Demos. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vitus Church at 10:00am, officiated by Father Michael Ackerman. Valerie A. Clingensmith, 56, of Clarence Ave passed away the evening of September 25, 2014 at her residence. Born on May 19, 1958 in New Castle, she is the daughter of John Peluso and Allene St. John Blaney, both of New Castle. Surviving her at home is her beloved husband of 35 years, James R. Clingensmith, whom she married on October 21, 1978. Very active in her church, Valerie worked as a secretary and custodian for New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She also went on various youth mission trips and taught midweek youth group for many years. Valerie enjoyed crafts, crocheting, cooking, and gardening. In addition to her parents and husband, Valerie is survived by her daughter, Ashley L. Crum and husband Justin of New Castle; brothers, John “Marty” Peluso and wife Jodi, Vincent Peluso and wife Janet, and Lawrence Peluso and wife Brenda, all of New Castle; mother-in-law, Florence A. Clingensmith of New Castle; and grandchildren, Brady Crum, Alleia Crum, and Macey Crum. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Allena Clingensmith, and sister, Jonnie Lynn Peluso. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at the funeral home, officiated by her brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. Robert Simmons, and Rev. Chris Curtis of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
