Linda Bohon

Linda D. Bohon, 69, of Pulaski Township, passed away the afternoon of October 18, 2014 in New Castle. Born on April 10, 1945 in New Castle, Linda was the daughter of Robert and Naomi Cameron Nelson. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives. Linda is also survived by her loving husband, James Bohon whom she married on February 22, 2006. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Pulaski. Linda had worked for Giant Eagle in the floral department and as a cashier. She enjoyed working with flowers and her pets. In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her two step children, Craig Bohon and his wife Lisa of Monaca, PA; Christy Long and her husband Randy of Beaver Falls; her brother, DuWayne Nelson of New Castle and her sister, Kathy Wimer of New Castle. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 1PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. officiated by Rev. Dennis Bupp.

Mafalda Makarevich

Mafalda M. (Muffy) Makarevich, 89, formerly of Friendship Street passed away the evening of October 21, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on May 13, 1925 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Assunta Lumaga DiMuccio. On June 5, 1948, she married her beloved husband, Frank T. Makarevich, and the two spent over 40 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on May 3, 1989. Mafalda retired from her job at One Hour Martinizing, and she also was a former employee of Airway Industries. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Mafalda belonged to the Friendship Street Originals, the Third Order of St. Francis, and the Blue Army. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and attending all of their activities. Mafalda is survived by her children, Frank J. Makarevich and wife Linda of New Castle and Cheryl Sciarro of New Castle; former son-in-law, Robert Sciarro of Beaver Falls, PA; grandchildren, Ashley Beeson and husband Colby, Caitlin Makarevich, and Nicholas Sciarro and wife Danielle; and great-grandchild, Santino Sciarro. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Vitus Church. Interment will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.

Peter Carando

Peter J. Carando, 90, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly the afternoon of October 22, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on April 25, 1924 in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mercedes Carando. In 1946, he married the former Mary Palmer, and the two spent many wonderful years together until she preceded him in death in 1973. Peter then married the former Mary R. Ferrari, and they spent 37 lovely years together until she preceded him in death in 2011. After 40 years of service, Peter retired from his job in the Maintenance Department for the New Castle Area School District. He also previously served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He belonged to St. Joseph the Worker Church. A meticulous man, Peter loved to work and clean, especially taking pride in shining up his vehicles. He also loved gardening and his animals. Peter is survived by his son, Peter M. Carando and wife Amy Jo Labi-Carando of New Castle; brother, Frank Carando of New Beford, MA; and sister, Margaret Whitaker of Hastings, MN. In addition to his parents and wives, he is preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Mesquita, and brothers, Remo Carando and Joseph Carando. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturday from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A blessing service will be conducted Saturday at 12:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Father Frank Almade. Amen Hassen

Amen Hassen, 83, of New Castle, passed away October 24, 2014 after an extended illness. Born on November 4, 1930 in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Ismail and Khaldie Hassen. Hassen was preceded in death by his brothers Nabeeh and Mustapha Hassen, and his sister Minnie Hassen. Hassen, a graduate of New Castle High School, attended Penn State University and Westminster College. He was a scholar athlete at Penn State University. He served our country during the Korean War in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division. He was recruited back to New Castle to begin his teaching career. His ambitions were to live in New Castle and teach. Hassen also coached for the New Castle Red Hurricanes under Lindy Lauro. After 35 years as a school administrator, he retired and joined Howard Hanna Realty. Hassen enjoyed his community involvement, including the following professional and community activities: he was an executive member of the Islamic Society of New Castle, Legislative Chairman for Lawrence County Chapter of Pa. School Retirees, a member of the Lawrence County Historical Society, an active volunteer of the annual Chow Chow event for the Children’s Hospital, assisted with fundraising for the YMCA and served as a board member of Hosn Welfare Hospital and the Life Long Adult Literacy of Lawrence County. He was inducted into the Lawrence County Historical Society Sports Hall of Fame in April of 2010. Hassen was an avid golfer and enjoyed supporting the Penn State Nittany Lions, the New Castle Red Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed fishing and dancing. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Katherine “Honey” Hamett Hassen; his two sisters, Emily and Cecilia Hassen; his children Gary I. (Katy) and Jeffrey A. (Jodi) Hassen and Janine K. (Fred) Perrotta. He has six grandchildren Lauren, Bryan, Erica, Amanda, Anthony, and Leah. Spending time with his family and friends was his favorite pastime. A special thanks to the staff at Rhodes Estates Alzheimer’s Facility and Jameson Hospice for their professional and compassionate care. A private funeral service was held at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and was officiated by Dr. Ahmad Abul-Ela. Interment is in Castleview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jameson Friends of Hospice.

Charles Viggiano

Charles M. “Chuck” Viggiano, 78, of Neshannock Township passed away the morning of October 23, 2014 at his residence. Born on September 3, 1936 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Rocco P. Sr. and Philomena Venditto Viggiano. Surviving him is his loving and adoring wife of 48 years, the former Suzie Crockett, whom he married on August 20, 1966. Charles retired from his job as a clerk for the Axle Division of Rockwell International. He was a member of the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the F & AM Lodge of Craft #433. Charles served on the Board of Directors and the Credit Committee of Family 1st Credit Union. He also served as a Director on the New Castle Sanitation Authority for 25 years and as the Authority’s Secretary for 15 years. Charles and Suzie always loved to travel to their children’s homes and finding and dining in new restaurants. He loved to golf and to watch the Steelers and Penguins. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his children, Gregory C. Viggiano and wife Sin Ae of Springfield, VA, Lynda Reiff of New Castle, and David M. Viggiano and wife Michelle of New Castle; and grandchildren, Abigail Viggiano, Alexander Viggiano, and Natalie Viggiano. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Rocco Viggiano, Jr. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Dorothy Gilmore

Dorothy Lee Gilmore, 86, of New Castle, passed away the evening of October 20, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on March 5, 1928 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude McDowell Turner. On November 21, 1952, she married her beloved husband, Frederick D. Gilmore, and the two spent 37 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on December 13, 1989. For over 30 years, Dorothy worked as a decorator and glazer for Shenango Pottery. She attended the Prevailing Word World Outreach Center. Dorothy was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Dorothy is survived by her children, Patti J. Harris of New Castle, Frederick D. Gilmore Jr. and wife Lisa of New Castle, and Nina L. Murphy of Texas; brother, Russell Turner of New Castle; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Williams, granddaughter, Bre’Na Marie Harris, and grandson, Frederick Douglas Gilmore III. Benjamin Carangie

Benjamin Carangie, Sr., 89, of West Pittsburg, passed away October 19, 2014. Born in West Pittsburg on April 12, 1925, Benjamin was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Banko Carangie. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, the former Mary Ann Attisano, whom he married on September 6, 1947. Benjamin was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. Benjamin retired from Rockwell International where he worked in the axle plant. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling. Benjamin also enjoyed many sports and, in his earlier days, played baseball. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Benjamin Carangie and his wife Philomena of Pittsburgh, and two grandchildren. Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service was held on Wednesday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. Entombment took place at Parkside Mausoleum.

Elizabeth “Betty” McIltrot, 67, of New Castle passed away the morning of October 27, 2014 at her residence. Born on June 19, 1947 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Eleanor Green Spayde of New Castle and the late Henry Spayde. She is also preceded in by her husband, Donald McIltrot. Elizabeth attended First Assembly of God. She loved doing crafts and crossword puzzles and singing, but her greatest joy came from taking care of her grandchildren. In addition to her mother, Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Mary Miller of New Castle and Nikki Masters and husband Michael of Evansville, IN; brother, Ronald Spayde of Wallworth, NY; sisters, Barbara Kelley and husband Ed of New Castle, Eva Barlow and husband Matthew of Nicaragua, and Kathleen Eich and husband Thomas of New Wilmington, PA; special friend, Gregory Hall; former husband, Nicholas Padula, Jr. of Florida; and six grandchildren. In addition to her father and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Covert. Visitation will be held Friday from 8:30pm to 9:00pm at First Assembly of God. Services will be conducted Friday at 9:00pm at the church, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Meyers. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.

John Cagnetti

John J. Cagnetti, 90, of New Castle passed away the evening of October 28, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on June 29, 1924 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Frank and Frances Chiapperino Cagnetti. In 1978, John retired from his job as Superintendent of Window Services for the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service. He also previously served his country as a Pharmacist’s Mate, Second Class, for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifelong, devoted member of St. Vitus Church. John was a member of the National Association of Retired Postal Workers, and in his earlier years, he enjoyed travelling. John is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas Cagnetti and Frank Cagnetti, and longtime friend, Peter DiDonato. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vitus Church at 10:00am, officiated by Father Michael Ackerman of St. Vitus Church. Janet Malizia Heichel, 65, of Union Township, passed away the morning of October 30, 2014 at her residence. Born on August 5, 1949 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen Zona Malizia. Surviving her at home is her beloved husband of 47 years, James “Hike” Heichel, whom she married on April 13, 1967. After 29 years of work, Janet retired from her job as an administrative assistant for First National Bank. She was a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Janet enjoyed going to the family camp and spending time outdoors. She was a loving wife and mother and a proud grandmother to her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by her children, Richard Heichel of New Castle and Michele Ross and husband Mark of Flint, MI; brother, Michael “Mickey” Malizia and wife Carol of New Castle; and her grandchildren, Ashlee and Lauryn Ross, whom meant the world to her. Ruth Irene Good Lewis, age 88 of McKinney, Texas passed away October 29, 2014 in Plano, Texas. She was born January 11, 1926 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Victor Andrew and Della (Lechner) Fry. Ruth married Harold A. Good, Jr. on May 6, 1943 in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Harold passed away in 1976. She married William E. Lewis on August 1, 1981. The most loving, caring, and supportive of mothers and grandmothers, she will be sorely missed by all. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Cherie) Shuler and husband Gary of Allen, Texas ; sons, Daryl G. Good and wife Kathy of Allen, Texas, Harold (Hal) A. Good, III of McKinney, Texas; step daughter Pam Welch and husband Scott of Glendale, Arizona; eleven grandchildren, Jerry Shuler, Ryan A. Good, Kymberly Good, April Good, Jessica Good, Kayla Good, Stephanie Shaw, Stacy Schott, Jennifer Alkaavi, Bradley Welch, and Kendra Welch; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Victoria (Vickie) Fry Dunbar of Pennsylvania, and Jean Buchanan of Colorado, and three brothers, Kenneth Fry and Raymond Fry of Pennsylvania, and Robert Fry of Florida. Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold A. Good Jr., who passed away June 18, 1976; her second husband, William E. Lewis who passed away March of 2013 and one sister, Esther Thompson who passed away in April 2014. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:30am to 11:00am at Castleview Memorial Gardens. Services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM at Castleview Memorial Gardens followed by her entombment, officiated by Pastor Jason McQueen of Cabot United Methodist Church in Cabot, PA.

Irene G. Marburger, 74, of Orchard Park Dr., formerly of Edgewood Ave, passed away peacefully the morning of November 1, 2014 with her loving family at her side. Born on January 31, 1940 in New Castle, Irene “Rene” Marburger was the daughter of the late Dewey and Nellie Christofer Glassi. She was married to her devoted husband, Dennis R. Marburger, for 49 years until he preceded her in death on March 28, 2012. Rene, a lifelong educator, retired as a director for Erie Business Center South, formerly known as the New Castle Business College, where she both directed and taught for 43 years. Prior to that, she taught at Riverside School District where she began her career. She was an alumna of Penn State University and Youngstown State University. Rene cherished the time she spent with her family and will be sadly missed. Rene is survived by her daughter, RaeLyn Marburger of New Castle; aunt, Jane Morgan formerly of New Castle; and numerous close cousins. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Dolores J. Watkins, 91, formerly of Fairmont Ave in New Castle, passed away at Jameson Hospital on the evening of November 3, 2014. Born on June 11, 1923 to James T. O’Leary and Marie Morissey O’Leary, she was preceded in death by her parents and her only son, Gary W. Watkins. She is survived by her brother, Edward O’Leary and wife Jeanne of New Castle; two grandchildren, Erin and Connor Watkins; two nieces, Lauren O’Leary Tamulonis and Elyce O’Leary; a longtime friend who was like a second son to her, Joseph Waltenbaugh of New Castle; a great-niece and great-nephew and their children. Dolores was a 1941 graduate of New Castle Senior High School and a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. She had worked at the Watkins Agency and was later employed in the insurance department of Beaver/Lawrence County AAA from where she retired. An avid bridge player over the years, she enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her friends at the Challenges Center in New Castle. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Mary Mother of Hope Church, officiated by Father Michael Ackerman. Llevejé A. “Debo” Pinkston, Jr., 18, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 5, 2014 as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident in Canton, OH. Born on December 28, 1995 in New Castle, he was the son of Llevejé A. Pinkston, Sr. of New Castle and Tinika Carter of Youngstown, OH. Llevejé loved composing and performing his own music, especially rap. He also loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Llevejé is survived by his daughter, Ka-Mayla Carter; step-son, Kadryn Minerd; companion, Kathleen “Kacky” Minerd; brother, La-Vale Pinkston of New Castle; sisters, Tanae Calhoun, Va-Janae Pinkston, Brooklyn Carter, Nicole Layton, all of New Castle, and Terri Gregory of Farrell, PA; grandmothers, Leona Harrison, Darlene Lawson, and Rosa Pinkston; and grandfathers, Rodney Pinkston, Rev. Michael Hambrick, and Samuel Stewart. He is preceded in death by his brother, Darius Patton, and paternal grandmother, Yvette Hambrick. Charles D. “Dan” Adams, 71, of New Wilmington, PA passed away the afternoon of November 6, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born on December 8, 1942 in Youngswood, PA, he was the son of the late Charles D. Sr. and Betty S. Kline Adams. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of 35 years, the former Teresa L. Cast, whom he married on May 5, 1979. Charles retired from his job as a Buyer and Inspector for Giant Eagle. He was currently employed as a school bus driver for Neshannock School District. Charles also previously served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Charles was known as a wonderful cook who liked landscaping and golfing. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, and he will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his children, Danielle Perrotta and husband Augusto and Gabrielle Adams and companion Frank Medure, all of New Castle; sister, Judy Detar of Bellfonte, PA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marion “Lucky” and Melinda D’Augostine of New Castle; grandson, Tino Perrotta; and nephews, Matthew and Jonathan Detar. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Stephen H. Krasinski, Sr. 63, of Union Township, passed away the evening of November 7, 2014 at his residence. Born in New Castle on July 25, 1951, Stephen was the son of the late Henry (Duck) and Christine M. (Teena) DeThomas Krasinski. Surviving at home is his loving wife, the former Regina Yakopovich whom he married on March 27, 1976. He was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. Stephen retired from Universal Rundle in 2013 where he had worked as a finisher for thirty years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam Era. Stephen was an avid guitar player and loved music. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known for his great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. Stephen loved his family and especially cherished the times he spent with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his two children; Audra Didiano and her fiancé William Boomhower of North Lima, OH, Stephen H. Krasinski, Jr. and his fiancée Renee Shannon of New Castle, his brother, Christopher Krasinski of New Castle, and his four grandchildren, Vincent Krasinski, Angelina Didiano, Olivia Krasinski and Emili Boomhower. Honoring his wishes, Stephen will be cremated and his family will gather on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10AM at St. Mary’s Church prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM officiated by Rev. Father Michael Ackerman. Entombment will take place in Parkside Mausoleum.

Patterson Dicks. Opal retired from the Lawrence County Home and previously worked at Nepco and as a security guard at Interforest Co. She was a member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church. Opal also belonged to the PAH Association. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a horse enthusiast. Opal is survived by her children, Norma Jean Jackson of New Castle and Jackie Veon and husband Rusty of St. Augustine, FL; brothers, Raymond Dicks of Ellwood City, William Dicks of New Castle, and Robert Dicks of Portersville, PA; sisters, Mildred Emery and Jean Stewart, both of New Castle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a great-grandson. Janice M. Morgan, 68, of W. Wallace Ave, died November 7, 2014 at her residence. Born in New Castle on January 28, 1946, Janice was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary Cestrone George. Surviving her at home is her husband, James G. Morgan, who she married on February 26, 1967. Janice was a member of St. Vitus Church. She retired from the Lawrence County Hillview Manor where she had worked as a nurse’s aide. Janice had also recently retired from the Midwest Intermediate Unit IV where she had worked as a teacher’s aide. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Janice is survived by her son, Bryan James Morgan of New Castle; brother, Victor George of New Castle; sister, Phyllis Duffy and husband Donald of New Castle; and her grandchild, Nicolette Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Patrick George, and sister-in-law, Virginia Elaine George. Visitation is Tuesday from 9:30am to 10:30am at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Tuesday at 10:30am for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to Three Rivers Hospice of New Castle and mailed to Family Home Health Services 26 Nesbitt Rd. New Castle, Pa 16105.

Norma D. Menges, 84, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of November 6, 2014 at the Jameson Care Center. Born in Cumberland, Maryland on June 30, 1930, Norma was the daughter of the late Sampson and Emma Cromley Roberson. Norma enjoyed sewing, playing the organ and traveling. Above all, she cherished the times she spent with her family. She is survived by her four children, Debbie Payne of New Castle; David Menges and wife Sheri of Lexington, NC; Duke Menges of Jacksonville, FL: and Scott Menges of New Castle; her sister, Judy Carpenter of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her brother, Sam Roberson and two sisters, LaVerne Roberson and Doris D’Aloe. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday at Mount Hermon Cemetery officiated by Rev. Dennis Bupp.
