David L. Richards, 67, of New Castle passed away the morning of June 14, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on April 5, 1947, David was the son of the late Karl and Shirley Clausen Richards. Surviving at home is his loving wife, the former Kimberly Minns whom he married on December 15, 1984. David was a graduate of Kent State University where he earned an Associate of Art Degree in General Studies and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Metals Engineering Institute. He had been an Adjunct Instructor for Kent State University. David also served on the University’s Business Technology Advisory Board and the U.S. Congressional Advisory Board as a State Advisor. David retired from the Keystone Rolls Corporation where he worked in Sales and Marketing. Prior to that, he had worked for Forney’s Incorporated and in earlier years, New Castle Industries. David and his wife, Kimberly also owned and operated Pheasant Run Kennels and bred English Field Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers. He loved hunting, fishing and was an avid fan of baseball. In addition to his wife, David is survived by his two children, David Scott Richards of Mercer, Pa; Clarissa Levine of New Castle; his twin brother, Donald Richards, his sisters, Peggy Blanchet, Patricia Sutula and four grandchildren. Barbara J. Brown, 70, of E. Harbor Rd passed away the evening of June 17, 2014 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 7, 1944, she is the daughter of the late James J. and Madeline Palese Grimm. On October 8, 1965, she married her beloved husband, Thomas E. Brown, and the two spent over 43 years together until he preceded her in death on June 27, 2009. Barbara was a loving and dutiful homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and attending concerts. Barbara is survived by her children, Elliot T. Brown and wife Pat of Apollo, PA and Sarah J. Brown and companion Ronald Antosz of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Dan Brown, Christina Brown, Heather Hickok, Becky Hickok, and Billy Hickok; and several great-grandchildren. Donald Palmer
Donald G. Palmer, 85, of English Ave. passed away the evening of June 16, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born on April 30, 1929 in Mercer County, Donald was the son of the late Glenn and Grace Doyle Palmer. Preceding him in death on June 7, 2013 is his wife, the former Dorothy Jane Huff, whom he married on December 5, 1947. Donald retired from the New Castle Refractories Company where he worked as a finisher. He is survived by his two children, Donald H. Palmer and his wife Dawn of Enon Valley; Joni L. Dottle of New Castle; his sister, Ruth Maxwell of Stowe, OH; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Donald is preceded in death by his two brothers, Jim Palmer and Robert Palmer and his sister, Dorothy Carr. There are no calling hours. Services are private.
Dorothy Dando
Dorothy Dando, at the young age of 91, of Pulaski, PA was called to Heaven the morning of June 22nd, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Born on April 10, 1923 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Blue White. On December 12th, 1945, she married her beloved husband, Arthur L. Dando, and the two spent over 52 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on June 7, 1998. Early on, Dorothy showed compassion and was a caregiver to her family and friends. She was cherished and admired for her faith, strength, and generous heart. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church where she served as Deaconess and as a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a devoted and faithful servant of the Lord. Her numerous activities included President of Senior Citizens, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, CCC Auxiliary, and Wimodausis. As a member of the Snappy Dragon Garden Club, she could be found tending to her colorful flowers and canning. She enjoyed Lake Erie camping trips and cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dorothy forever touched and honored all that knew her. Her graciousness taught kindness, love, and always a reason to be thankful. Survivors include her children, Larry (Linda) Dando, Helen (Joe) DePinto, Paul Dando, and daughter-in-law Luann Dando; grandchildren, Gene Dando, Beth Donegan, Jenn Coulter, Lori Sainato, Kelly Hess, Billie Patrick, Lisa Aiello, Robert Dando, Scott Larch, and Heather Gollan; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Dando; daughter-in-law, Teri Dando; brother, Walter White; and sister, Virginia Gould. Robert Trott
Robert A. Trot III, 44, of Maryland Ave. passed away June 23, 2014 at his residence in New Castle. Born on March 12, 1970 in New Castle, Robert was the son of Robert A., II and Delores Smith Trott. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives and resides in New Castle. Robert is survived by his wife, the former Andrea Schaas, whom he married on January 28, 2014. Robert had been working as the plant manager at BPI, Inc. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed playing pool, gardening and his pets. Robert was known as a good hearted and helpful person and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his mother and wife, Robert is survived by his two children, Cameron Trott and Joshua Allen, both of New Castle; his brother, Carmen Trott of Pittsburgh; his sister, Sally Ann Trott of New Castle; his maternal grandmother, Sally Smith of New Castle; his nieces and nephews, Jessica Gardner, Carl Gardner, Kayli Trott and his great nephews, Spencer Kent and Zachery Burtton. Anthony Tomai
Anthony Tomai, Jr., 88, formerly of West Pittsburg, PA. passed away peacefully the morning of June 24, 2014 at Presbyterian Senior Care. Anthony “Tony” Tomai, was born in Rosepoint, PA on December 24, 1925 to the late Anthony and Mary DeNillo Tomai. He was married for 54 years to late Delores “Dee” Meyer Tomai who passed away September 16, 2005. During World War II, Mr. Tomai served in the United States Marine Corps. In his lifetime he worked for Ford Motor Company and the transportation department for the New Castle Area School District. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to read and garden. He is survived by his daughters, Toni Tomai Didiano and her husband Fred Jr. of Warren, OH., and Patti Tomai Palladino of Washington, PA; Four Grandchildren, Lisa Didiano of Warren, OH., Amanda Palladino Gaiser and her husband Cory of Washington, PA., Anthony Didiano and his wife Gina of New Castle, PA., and Derek Palladino and his companion Stephanie Meyer of Pittsburgh, PA.; Three Great Grandchildren, Angelina Didiano, Nathan and Natalie Gaiser. He is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Florence Monk, Mrs. Esther Johnson, Mrs. Martha Bunce, their spouses; and several nieces and nephews. Lucille A. Cuscino Haid, 82, of Windsor Ridge passed away the morning of June 25, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on January 2, 1932 in New Castle, she is the daughter of the late Norman and Gertrude Amodie Cuscino. After many years of working, Lucille retired from her job as the sales manager for the fashion department of Sears Roebuck Department Store in 1992. She belonged to Epworth United Methodist Church. Lucille enjoyed bowling, ceramics, camping, and travelling; her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucille is survived by her children, Debby Fulena and husband David and Lee Haid and wife Maureen, all of New Castle; brothers, David Cuscino and wife Marianne of Volant, PA and Ronald Cuscino and wife Isabel of Glen Ivy, CA; sisters, Irene Lamorella and husband Vince of New Castle and Stella Naple of Bethel Park, PA; sister-in-law, Josephine Cuscino of New Castle; grandchildren, Alisa Fulena, Michele Krugh and husband Jared, Stephanie Resnick and husband Adam, Adam Haid, and Leighann Falcone and husband Jimmy; and two great-grandchildren. Cathy Dawn Labi, 66, of Monroeville, Pa. peacefully passed away on June 24, 2014, with her family at her side. She was the daughter of Jean and John Labi, granddaughter of Betty and Joe Shamay and Stephen and Catherine Labi. She is survived by her loving sisters and their husbands, Bonnie Labi Wittenberg and husband Shelly of Annandale, VA; Amy Jo Labi-Carando and husband Pete of New Castle; special aunt, Marie Haywood and husband Jim, and former husbands, Maury L. Hull and Tom Vrtis. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her gentle, indomitable spirit inspired many, and will continue to do so. Richard Fork
Richard M. Fork, 72, of Arlington Ave. passed away the morning of June 23, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on October 18, 1941, Richard was the son of the late Ernest C. and Iva M. Kraus Fork. He is survived by his lifetime partner, Jeanne Roxberry of New Castle. He was a six year veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Richard retired from Electrolux Corporation where he was a service manager and sales coordinator. He was a former member of the Eagles, Elks, and the Moose Club. He enjoyed collecting coins, stamps and was an avid chess player. He especially cherished the times he spent playing cards and chess with his granddaughters and his grandson. He is survived by his daughter, Tia M. Fork-Sizer and her significant other, Terry Williams of Canfield, OH; his step daughter, Tammy McQuiston of Tionesta, PA; his brothers, Ernest C. Fork, Jr. and wife Mary Jean of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Edward A. Fork and his wife Debbie of New Castle; his sisters, Mary E. Fork Gigliotti and husband Frank of New Castle; Maureen Penny Fork Pollard and husband Raymond of AL; his niece, Dr. Tami Fork of FL; nephews, Ryan J. Fork of FL;, David P. Charles P. Warren, 50, of Atlantic Ave passed away at his residence on June 19, 2014. Born on December 29, 1963 in New Castle, he is the son of the late Charles A. and Janice “Dolly” Verzili Warren. Charles was the owner of Charles Unique Hairstyles. He enjoyed landscaping, interior design, and cooking. Charles is survived by his sisters, Jodi Pardick and husband William of New Castle and Kimberly Fee and husband Paul of Mt. Jackson, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews. Billie Jean Firman
Billie Jean Firman, 58, of Edinburg, PA, passed away on July 2, 2014 at her residence. Born on July 15, 1955 in New Castle, she is the daughter of Delores Walker of Edinburg and the late Edward Ryan. Also preceding her in death on November 15, 2012 is her late husband, Terry Firman, whom she married on February 14, 1992. Billie Jean worked as an assistant manager for Tic Toc Food Mart in New Castle, PA. Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and attending their various activites. She also loved going to the beach. Billie Jean is survived by her son, Robert J. Hobel and wife Mandy of Mt. Jackson, PA; sisters, Janice Heasley of Bessemer, PA and Judy Porter of New Castle; and grandchildren, Zachary, Jakob, Logan, and Gavin Hobel. Services have yet to be determined by the family.
Lena Medure
Lena Medure, 88, of West Pittsburg, formerly of Sunny Ave. passed away the morning of July 3, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born on October 9, 1925 in Hillsville, Pa., Lena was the daughter of the late Antonio and Angeline Micco Retone. Preceding her in death on July 25, 2002, is her husband, John A. Medure whom she married on October 30, 1946. Lena was a devoted member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish, the Ladies Guild and the former St. Margaret’s 31 Club. She also volunteered for the annual St. Lucy Festival. Lena had owned Liberty Supermarket in Mahoningtown with her husband for thirty two years. She had also worked for Medure’s Catering for twenty five years, retiring in 1994. Lena enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved being surrounded by her family. Lena cherished the times she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Dantico and husband John of West Pittsburg; Johnna Panella and husband Edward of Lock Haven, Pa; her sister, Christine Lorello of Hillsville; three grandchildren, John A. Dantico and wife Misty, Alyssa Panella, Matthew Panella and her great-grandchild, Joseph Andrew Dantico. In addition to her parents and husband, Lena is preceded in death by her four sisters, Anna Gallo, Mary Argiro, Margaret Seminara, Rose Pancallo and two brothers, Anthony Retone and John Retone. Mary Plink
Mary P. Plink, 97, of Hazen St. passed away the morning of July 2, 2014 at Avalon Nursing Center. Born on September 26, 1916 in New Castle, she is the daughter of the late Cesare A. and Filippina Arone Morgan. On May 11, 1936, she married her beloved husband, James Plink, and the two spent over 51 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on September 2, 1987. In her early years, Mary worked as a decorator for Shenango China. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Mary is survived by her daughter, Joanne Phillips and husband Bucky of New Castle; granddaughter, Karen Ferrante and companion Casey Marino; great-grandchildren, Krystina Corrins and husband Greg and James Ferrante and fiancée Lexi Specht; nephew, Frank Simunaci; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine Simunaci and Jennie Russo; and brothers, Walter Morgan, Anthony Morgan, Frank Morgan, and Domenic Morgan. Darlene Ann Warso, 82, of Grandview Ave passed away the morning of July 5, 2014 at Overlook Nursing Home. Born on June 22, 1932 in New Castle, she is the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Allen Borio. Also preceding her in death is her beloved husband, Harold George Warso, who preceded her in death on August 10, 1992. Darlene was a member of the Episcopalian faith. She loved cooking, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. Kimberli Scrim Hooks
Kimberli Ann Scrim Hooks, 39, of Shenango Township passed away the afternoon of July 5, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital following a brief illness. Born on September 14, 1974 in New Castle, Kimberli was the daughter of Richard and Sandra Farbo Scrim. Her parents survive in New Castle. Surviving at home is her loving husband, Robert C. Hooks whom she married on September 8, 2001. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Kimberli was a 1992 graduate of New Castle High School. After graduation, Kimberli went on to graduate from Clarion University and Slippery Rock University. Kimberli was currently a special education teacher with George Washington Intermediate School. Kimberli’s calling was teaching and it showed through her work and devotion to the children she was surrounded with. She was a selfless person and was always doing things for others. The greatest joy in her life was becoming a mother to her two boys, Grason and Talen and sharing all of their activities together as a family. Kimberli was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all the lives she touched through her teaching. In addition to her parents and husband, Kimberli is survived by her two sons at home, Grason and Talen; her brother, Thomas Scrim; her sister, Rosemarie Scrim; both of New Castle and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Velvet and Carl Hooks of Brackenridge, PA. Paul Hunter
Paul B. Hunter, 80, of Butz St, formerly of Wampum, PA, passed away the morning of July 1, 2014 at Autumn Grove Nursing Center in Harrisville, PA. Born on September 30, 1933 in Wampum, PA, he is the son of the late Paul E. and Laura B. McDonald Hunter. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of over 50 years, the former Georgia Book, whom he married in 1962. In 1981, Paul retired from his job as a machinist for Rockwell International Spring Division. He then worked in maintenance and grounds keeping for the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts. Paul was a member of West Pittsburgh United Methodist Church. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. An avid outdoorsman, Paul loved fishing and hunting. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his children, Paul K. Hunter of Wampum, PA, Mary Kaye Wiley of Wampum, PA, Bert E. Hunter of Utah, Kathy Hunter of Utah, and Paula Hunter of Utah; brothers, Gerald Hunter and Dale B. Anthony Naples
Anthony F. (Peewee) Naples, Sr., 93, of New Castle passed away the morning of July 8, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born on May 14, 1921 in Rose Point, Pa., Anthony was the son of the late Andrew and Ann Mozzarella Naples. He married his loving and devoted wife, the former Vera Germani on June 20, 1946 and recently celebrated sixty eight years of marriage. He was a WWII U. S. Navy veteran. Anthony was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66 in Youngstown, Ohio and retired from Lear Construction where he had worked as a crane operator. Prior to that, he had worked for thirty five years for T. Bruce Campbell Construction Company in West Middlesex. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. He was also a member of the Duca Degli Abruzzi Club, enjoyed gardening and was an avid sportsman. In addition to his wife, Anthony is survived by his two children, Anthony F. (Butch) Naples, Jr. of Jamestown, Pa; Andrea Householder and husband Dave of Ellwood City; three sisters, Dora Naples of AZ; Gerri Ann Allay of Cleveland; Viola Sferra of Slippery Rock and two grandchildren, Melanie McIntyre Scott and husband Brian and Emily McIntyre. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Frank, Sam and Arnold Naples and his two sisters, Caroline Stewart and Sister Andrea Naples. Born on July 3, 1934 in New Castle, he is the son of the late Michael and Angeline DeMarc Pennachio. Anthony was a self-employed painter. He was a member of the Catholic faith. Anthony enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, and music, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
