Carrie Frengel Cimini, 94, of Summerfield, FL passed away the morning of February 24, 2014 at the Palm Garden of Ocala in Ocala, FL. Born on July 11, 1919 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sundrina Ross Frengel. On June 22, 1940, she married her beloved husband, Frank Cimini, and the two spent fifty-eight wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 1998. Carrie was a graduate of Shenango High School and a former member of St. Vitus Church. She volunteered for the Alzheimer’s Association of Ft. Myers, FL and loved to play cards. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and good friends. Carrie is survived by her daughter, Renee Cimini of Summerfield, FL; grandson, Stephen Cimini and wife Kathy of Mars, PA; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cimini and Stephanie Cimini. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Robert Cimini; sister, Theresa Lowry; brothers, Albert Frengel, Henry Frengel, Fred Frengel, Daniel Frengel, and Joseph “Junior” Frengel. Cornelius V. Wise, 78, of Youngstown passed away the afternoon of March 2, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Born in New Castle on November 3, 1935, Cornelius was the son of the late Anderson, Sr. and Dorothy N. Campbell Wise. Cornelius served in the US Navy. He had worked as an auto body technician at several local auto shops in New Castle. Cornelius enjoyed sports and in his youth ran track and field, played football and was known for his exceptional speed. He also enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his two daughters, Marjorie Wise of Butler; Connie Wise of New Castle; his son, Vincent E. Wise and wife Cathy of New Castle; two brothers, George Wise of New Castle; Lorenzo Wise of Youngstown; five sisters, Joy Waters of Maryland; Shirley Samuels of New Castle; Geraldine Love of New Castle; Beverly Wise of New Castle; Thomasena Howell of Alliance, Oh; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Cornelius is preceded in death by his sister, Lorali Wise and four brothers, Cleveland Wise, Charles R. Wise, Robert E. Shirley Wilson
Shirley K. Wilson, 84, of Brentwood St. passed away the afternoon of March 10, 2014 at the Jameson Care Center. Born in Butler, Pa. on September 2, 1929, Shirley was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary Margaret Beggs Klinger. Preceding her in death on May 24, 2009 is her husband, Donald E. Wilson whom she married on June 30, 1947. Shirley retired from St. Francis Hospital where she worked in the emergency room registration department. In her earlier years she had worked as the head cashier for Loblaws Grocery Store. Shirley enjoyed traveling to Florida for the winter with her husband. She also enjoyed playing bingo. Shirley cherished the times she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Todd Wilson of Edinburg; her daughter, Diane Offie and husband Joe of New Castle; her sister, Norma Jean Herald of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene D. Rice and two brothers, Robert Klinger and David Klinger. William Freshcorn, Sr.
William D. Freshcorn, Sr., 67, of North Beaver St. passed away the evening of February 23, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on April 21, 1946 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Freeman M. Sr. and Doris McClimans Freshcorn. Surviving him at home is his wife, the former Agnes M. Holland. William retired from his job as a truck driver and previously worked for Jefferson Poultry, B&O Railroad, and Community Alternatives. He was a huge sports enthusiast and loved to go on walks with his dog. An avid outdoorsman, William enjoyed the four seasons of Pennsylvania while hunting and fishing. His greatest joy came from cooking and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, David Freshcorn and wife Pam of New Castle, Robert Freshcorn and wife Cara of Morgantown, WV, and Joseph Freshcorn of Naples, FL; step-sons, Joseph Holland and Dana of Dallas, TX and Christopher Triplett of New Castle; step-daughter, Evelyn Triplett of New Castle; brothers, Harry Freshcorn of Joplin, MO, Lee Henry Atwell of Hollywood, FL, and Freeman Freshcorn of New Castle; sisters, Gayle Hubbard of Susanville, CA, Sara Atwell of Portersville, PA, and Adda Roberts of Manteca, CA; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Veronica Tempesta Mone
Veronica May Tempesta Mone, 80, of Okinawa Dr., passed away the morning of February 27, 2014 at her residence. Born on August 27, 1933 in New Castle, Veronica was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Jennie Scrim Tempesta. Surviving at home is her husband, Harlan A. Mone, Sr. whom she married on June 27, 1987. She was a member of St. Vitus Church. Veronica was a 1952 graduate of New Castle High School. After high school she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for seventeen years. In 1986, she graduated from the Deputy Sheriff’s Training Program in Carlisle, Pa. She retired from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department where she had worked for thirty years, nineteen of those years as Chief Deputy Sheriff for Sheriff George Sigler. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi International and received the Order of the Rose. Veronica was also a member of the New Castle Power Squad and completed seven boating courses. During retirement she enjoyed being a volunteer for St. Francis Hospital. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Veronica is survived by her step-son, Harlan A. Mone, Jr. of New Castle; two brothers, David Tempesta and Francis Tempesta, both of New Castle; three grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews, sixteen great nieces and great nephews, twenty one great-great-nieces and great-great nephews. Veronica is preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, Louise McIltrot, Adeline Tommelleo, Bertha Adamo, Margaret Tempesta, Laura Pavia and Annabelle Iovanella; two brothers, Eugene Tempesta, Alessio Tempesta and one nephew, Eugene Tommelleo. Marlea Kay Llewellyn, 47, of Sugar Hill, Georgia passed away February 26, 2014 in Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia. Born in New Castle on January 14, 1967, Marlea was the daughter of the late Robert Shields and Flossie Louise Jones Llewellyn. She was a member of Sugar Hill Church in Georgia. Marlea graduated from the Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School in 1984. She attended Florida Metro University in Tampa, Florida where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology and an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal studies. Marlea had been working as a Legal Consultant, Litigation Paralegal and Office Manager for Credigy Corporation in Georgia. She was an avid volunteer for the American Cancer Association including the Community Action Team and the Committee Chairperson of the Annual Fundraisers. Marlea was also a Gwinnett County Court Appointed GUARDIAN AD LITEM. She is survived by her four brothers, Robert M. Llewellyn of Greenville, S.C.; Bryan W. Llewellyn of Cocoa, FL; R. Scott Llewellyn of New Castle, Pa; Jerry Dean Llewellyn of Sugar Hill, GA; three sisters, Diana Lynn Llewellyn of New Castle, Pa; Marjorie Llewellyn Gavin of Monroe, N.C.; Brenda Llewellyn Roberts of New Castle, Pa and several nieces and nephews. Doris E. Bevan, 83, passed away on February 23, 2014 at JoAnn’s House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. Born February 12, 1931 in New Castle, Doris was the daughter of the late Frank and Irene Strobel Quigley. She is survived by her husband of sixty three years, Thomas J. Bevan of New Castle and Bonita Springs, Florida. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church, Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. Doris was a long time member of the New Castle Country Club. She enjoyed reading, her devout Catholic faith and always caring for her friends and family needs. Her kind, caring and generous spirit will be sadly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by her two sons, Thomas J. Bevan, Jr. of Ft. Myers, Florida; Frank Bevan and wife Margi of Bonita Springs, Florida; her daughter, Kathy Meehan and husband Tom of Erie, Pa; her brother, Bill Quigley and wife Barb of New Castle, two granddaughters, Amber Fulgenzi and husband Phil of Ladera Ranch, CA; Annie Eder and husband Leo of Delray Beach, Fl; and a number of nephews and nieces. Annabelle Catarcio
Annabelle Maria Catarcio, 94, of Vista South passed away the evening of March 2, 2014 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries Nursing Center. Born in New Castle on October 11, 1919, Annabelle was the daughter of the late Luigi and Margaret Divino Nocera. Preceding her in death on February 14, 1978, is her husband, Anthony Carmen Catarcio, whom she married on May 11, 1939. She retired from Shenango Pottery where she had worked as an inspector. Annabelle was a devoted and active member of St. Vitus Church, the St. Vitus Ladies Guild and the St. Vitus Ladies of Charity. She was also a member of The Blue Army and the Third Order of St. Francis. Annabelle volunteered at the St. Vitus Festival and was one of the original cavatelli makers for the festival. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Francis Auxiliary. Annabelle was also an active member of the Lawrence County Blind Association. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Nick Catarcio and his wife Darlene of New Castle; her granddaughter, Nichole Columbus and husband Doug of New Castle and her two great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Christina. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her six brothers; Andrew Nocera, Anthony “Nails” Nocera, Henry Nocera, Albert Nocera, Joseph Nocera, Victor “Blackie” Nocera and her two sisters, Elizabeth Panzarella and Mary Pollino. Roger Monaco
Roger C. (Pogie) Monaco, 62, of Williams St. passed away the evening of March 8, 2014 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. Born in New Castle on March 28, 1951, Roger was the son of the late Roger A. and Margaret Conti Monaco. Surviving at home is his loving and devoted wife, the former Linda Cioppa, whom he married on September 13, 1980. Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam era. He attended St. Vitus Church. Roger had worked for the R.E. Whittaker Company and prior to that had worked as a weigh master for Glacial Sand and Gravel and Rosepoint Sand and Gravel. In earlier years, he had worked for Rockwell International. Roger was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished the times he spent with his family. In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his three children, Carly R. Bartle and husband Robert of Ashburn, VA; Roger A. Monaco of New Castle; Amanda L. Monaco of New Castle; one brother, Dan Monaco and wife Karen of New Castle; two sisters, Barbara Kordish, Marguerite Mooney, both of New Castle; and his granddaughter, Camryn. Rose Regna
Rose Maria Nero Regna, 95, of Haus Ave. passed away the evening of March 12, 2014 in Ellwood City Hospital. Born December 8, 1918 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Philomena Nero. Preceding her in death on June 2, 2010 is her husband, Joseph James Regna whom she was married to for 68 years. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Rose worked most of her life as a waitress at various restaurants, Hoover’s Restaurant, Coach and Lantern Restaurant, Yerage’s Restaurant and the New Castle Country Club. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, going to bingo and traveling to area casinos. Rose is survived by three children, Joseph Regna, Jr.; Richard Regna and wife Joyce; Cindy Regna Warso, all of New Castle; five grandchildren, Christopher Warso, Casey Deem and husband Nate, Tonya Evangelista and husband Steve, Richard Regna, Jr. and wife Renee, Jeanette DiMuccio and husband Justin and eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Evangelista, Grace Evangelista, Isabella Regna, Luke Regna, Ryan Regna, Maria DiMuccio, Ellie DiMuccio and Nate Deem II. Lucy Lombardo, 91, formerly of S. Lafayette St. in New Castle passed away the morning of March 13, 2014 in the Latrobe Hospital in Latrobe, Pa. Born in New Castle on December 14, 1922, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Antonio Mastroianni and Philipena Marcurio Mastroianni. She is also preceded in death by her stepmother, Mary Cook Mastroianni. On September 12, 1944, Lucy married her loving husband of 67 years, Peter Lombardo and he preceded her in death February 7, 2012. Lucy was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and its Women of Faith. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Gillette and her husband Jerry of Greensburg, Pa; her sister, Mary Lucidore of New Castle; and her granddaughter, Allison Haberkorn and husband Arnold. In addition to her parents, stepmother, and husband, Lucy is preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Miller; five sisters, Minnie Sandullo, Nancy Bulisco, Christine Ketler, Nikki Lamorella, Rose Lepore; and three brothers, Phillip Mastroianni, Nicholas Mastroianni and John Manzo, Sr. Visitation is Sunday from 10:30AM to 12:30PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Bernice Hardney, 79, of Smithfield St. passed away March 12, 2014 at the Overlook Medical Clinic. Born in New Castle on January 17, 1935, Bernice was the daughter of the late Owens and Margaret Bell Hardney. Bernice was a member of St. John United Holy Church. She had worked as a nurse’s aide for St. Francis Hospital, Jameson Memorial Hospital and several local nursing homes. In earlier years, Bernice had worked for Shenango China. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Marvin Lyndell Hardney and wife Joyce of Allentown, Pa; her longtime companion, Zollie Talley; her cousin, whom she was very close with, Jimmy Belle of New Castle; her two nieces and caregivers, M. Lee Johnston and Robbin Carter, her granddaughter, Jarisa White and three great-grandchildren, Tiziah White, Tayvon White and Christopher White and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Helen DeVincentis, 84, of Scotland Lane passed away the morning of March 16, 2014 at the Overlook Medical Clinic. Born on November 12, 1929 in New Castle, Helen was the daughter of the late William and Mary Mastropietro Cast. Helen was preceded in death on December 31, 1998, by her husband, Alfred (Bingo) DeVincentis, whom she married on November 15, 1951. Helen retired from Bingo’s Restaurant and Lounge in Union Township which she owned and operated with her husband. She enjoyed cooking and working in her flower garden. Helen loved spending time with her children, her sisters and her grandchildren. She is survived by her two children, Alfred G. DeVincentis and wife Judy of Boardman; Roxanne Taylor and husband Rick of New Castle; two sisters, Rose Scardefield and Dorothy Roselli, both of New Castle; three grandchildren, Tamara Taylor, Rico DeVincentis, Haley Taylor, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by her three brothers, John Cast, Tony Cast, Frank Cast and four sisters, Catherine Bloise, Theresa Offredo, Mary Manto and Josephine Fortuna. Nancy M. DuBrock, 55, of Oakwood Ave. passed away the evening of March 17, 2014 at her residence in New Castle. Born in New Castle on April 7, 1958, Nancy was the daughter of Abe DuBrock of Hillsville and the late Joann Fuleno Keller. She is also survived by her step mother, Connie DuBrock of Hillsville and her step father, Ray Keller who resides in New Castle. She was self employed working as a painter. Nancy loved life and enjoyed camping and boating. She is survived by her companion, Judy Kloss, two stepchildren, Stephen Dettore, Jason Kloss, both of New Castle; her three sisters, Liz Davis, Gay Reef, Jerri Pharr, all of New Castle; and one step grandchild. In addition to her mother, Nancy is preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Heaney and brother, Levi DuBrock. Laura Hill
Laura E. Hill, 86, of 725 Paul Street passed away the afternoon of March 21, 2014 in the Haven Convalescent Home. She was born April 25, 1927 in Willow Grove, PA and was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Elizabeth G. Fields Moyers. On June 11, 1948 she married her husband, Norman B. Hill who preceded her in death on August 27, 1991. Mrs. Hill was a cook and caregiver for the City Rescue Mission working at the Covenant House and the Sankey Center. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and drawing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who’s greatest joy was the time spent with her family; especially her grandchildren. Laura was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Mrs. Hill is survived by five daughters, Denise McKissick and husband Martin of New Castle, Norma Martin and husband George of New Castle, Donna Reno and husband Glenn of Wampum, Ruth Ann McKissick and husband David of New Castle and Laura Norris of New Castle; one son, Wayne J. Hill and wife Kimberly of Castlewood; nineteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Moyers. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A service will be conducted by Pastor James Hockenberry on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Harmony Baptist Church,4103 Ellwood Road. Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
Josephine Long
Josephine F. Long, 75, of Cecil Ave passed away the afternoon of March 22, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born on August 26, 1938 in Barber County, WV, she was the daughter of the late James and Myrtle Keller Anderson. In 1983, she married her husband, the late Kenneth “Sonny” L. Long, and the two spent over twenty wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in September 2005. Josephine retired from her job as a certified nurse aide, working in home health care. She was a member of St. Camillus Church. She enjoyed painting, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially while camping and fishing. Josephine is survived by her children, Cathy Atkinson of New Castle, Victoria Saucier and husband Rodney of Florida, and Thomas Heckart, Jr. of New Castle; step-children, Michael Long and wife Lois of New Castle, Richard “Dink” Long and wife Terry of Arkansas, Terri Badillo and husband Joseph of California, Kenneth “Pete” Long of Texas, and James Long and wife MaryAnn of California; brother, Howard Anderson of West Virginia; sisters, Dorothy Bennett of West Virginia, Barbara Anderson of Ohio, and Dorothy Anderson of New Castle; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Long; son, John Castle; sisters, Marie Thompson and Rosalee Moore; and brothers, Leslie Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Donald Anderson. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11am to 1pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday at 10am at St. Camillus Church, officiated by Father Thomas Lewandowski. Interment will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.
Juanita White
Juanita A. White, 84, of Southpoint at Jameson, formerly of Idlewild Ave. passed away the morning of March 24, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. She was born on November 22, 1929 in West Pittsburg, a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Stewart Parks. After the death of her mother, Juanita was raised by her late aunt and uncle, Willis and Bess Fye. Preceding her in death on July 8, 1994 is her husband, Robert W. White, whom she married on November 28, 1950. She was a former member of Hoover Heights Missionary Alliance. Juanita was a graduate of Shenango High School. She retired from New Castle Battery where she had worked as a secretary for twenty two years. Juanita was a member of the Grandmother’s Group, the Women of Hope Bible Study and a former member of Mickie’s Ladies Bowling League. She also enjoyed camping. She is survived by her son, Edmond W. White and his wife Darlene of Monroeville; her daughter, Brenda White of Paradise, CA; her sisters, Martha Bowie of Streetsboro, OH; Betty Hudack of New Castle; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Juanita is preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys June Hill, June Blews, her brothers, Willis Parks, infant Robert Parks, step sister, Dorothy Baker and step brother, Glenn Davis. Visitation is Friday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A service will be held on Friday at 7PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
Francis Fusco
Francis F. Fusco, 47, of Edinburg passed away the afternoon of March 23, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in New Castle on August 5, 1966. Surviving at home are his parents, Francis, Jr. and Janice M. Weaver Fusco. Francis was a member of St. Lawrence Church, Christ the King Parish. He was a 1984 graduate of Union High School. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Francis was a true Pittsburgh Steeler fan and enjoyed watching their games. He was especially proud of his 1972 GMC show truck and enjoyed attending many car shows. Above all else, Francis cherished all the time he spent with his family. In addition to his parents, Francis is survived by his paternal grandfather, Francis M. Fusco, Sr. of Edinburg; his aunts, uncles, cousins and his dog, Cherokee. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Marian Fusco and maternal grandparents, Fred C. Weaver and Janet R. Weaver. Visitation is Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9:45AM for St. Lawrence Church, Christ the King Parish for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM. Rev. Father James Downs, pastor of Christ the King Parish will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
