Mabel R. McCollums, 84, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 25, 2016 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on October 12, 1931 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen Pearson Darwin. Surviving is her beloved husband of 64 years, Walter McCollums, whom she married on April 6, 1951. In her earlier years, Mabel worked as an operator for Bell Telephone. An active member of Shenango Christian Church, she was involved in church activities. Mabel always will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her husband, Mabel is survived by her children, Raymond McCollums of New Castle, Dennis McCollums of Maryland, Gary McCollums of New Castle, Janet Peterson of New Castle, Karen Rahimi of Florida, and Deborah Parks of Ohio, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Alan McCollums; brothers, Robert and Charles Darwin; and sisters, Viola Mae Darwin and Mary Denny. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00am to 11:00am at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home 941 S Mill St. Services will be conducted Friday at 11:00am at the funeral home, officiated by Tim Erwin, minister of Shenango Christian Church. Entombment will take place in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
