John J. Cagnetti, 90, of New Castle passed away the evening of October 28, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on June 29, 1924 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Frank and Frances Chiapperino Cagnetti. In 1978, John retired from his job as Superintendent of Window Services for the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service. He also previously served his country as a Pharmacist’s Mate, Second Class, for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifelong, devoted member of St. Vitus Church. John was a member of the National Association of Retired Postal Workers, and in his earlier years, he enjoyed travelling. John is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas Cagnetti and Frank Cagnetti, and longtime friend, Peter DiDonato. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vitus Church at 10:00am, officiated by Father Michael Ackerman of St. Vitus Church. Interment will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery. The family asks that memorial contributions take the form of donations made in John’s honor to St. Vitus School 915 S. Jefferson Street New Castle, PA 16101 or St. Vitus Church 910 South Mercer Street New Castle, PA 16101.
