James H. Barber, 87, of Neal St. passed away the evening of August 20, 2013 at the Masonic Village in Sewickley, Pa. James was born in New Castle on May 24, 1926 and is the son of the late James and Josephine Dout Barber. Preceding him in death on October 16, 1987 is his wife, the former Carmelita Estelle Cassella whom he married on August 12, 1948.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. James was a devoted member of St. Vitus Church. He retired from Bessemer Cement where he worked as a coal mill operator. James was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman. James also enjoyed decorating for Christmas.
Surviving are his four children, Dr. James Barber and his wife Diane of Sewickley, Pa; Robert Barber and his wife Patricia of Knoxville, TN; Dr. Charles Barber and his wife Lori of Bridgeville, Pa; Laureen Lawrence and her husband George of New Castle; his two step-brothers, Paul Barber and George Barber, his step-sister, Mary Jane, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, James is preceded in death by his brother, William Barber.
Visitation is Friday from 3PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father William Siple of St. Vitus Church will officiate.
Interment will take place at St.Vitus Cemetery.
