Lenore H. Fassinger, 74, of 3451 Tuscarora Dr. New Castle, passed away Saturday evening, December 8, 2012 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. Born in Dravosburg, Pa. on June 16, 1938, Lenore was the daughter of the late James A. and Margaret L. Smith Hodder. Surviving at home is her husband, Dr. John J. Fassinger, who she married on October 25, 1964. Lenore was a member of Clen Moore Presbyterian Church. She was a 1956 alumni of McKeesport High School and was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing. In 1962, Lenore became certified as an nurse anesthetist, working for UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and St. Francis Hospital in New Castle. She then became the owner and operator of the Little Shoppe Women’s Boutique in New Castle for over twenty years. She was a long time member of the New Castle Country Club and was a avid golfer at the club. Active in her community, Lenore was a former chairperson of the St. Francis Holly Ball, a board member of Jameson Hospital, a former board member of the Easter Seals and a member of the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts. Lenore was a avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. In addition to her husband, Lenore is survived by her two children, Holly A. Poniewaz and her husband Michael of Las Vegas,NV; John J. Fassinger, II of New Castle; her sisters, Dorothy H. Shuette of Dravosburg, Pa; Myrna Brown of Chesterton, IN; her beloved grandchildren, Gracen Layne Poniewaz, Logan James Poniewaz and her nieces and nephews. Visitation is Wednesday from 2PM to 4PM and 7PM to 9PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11AM officiated by Pastor Chris Weichman, pastor of Clen Moore Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Castleview Memorial Gardens.
