Richard L. DeVincentis, 76, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of December 9, 2013 at Jameson Memorial Hospital.
Born in New Castle on February 15, 1937, Richard was the son of the late Luciano and Filippa Pandolfi DeVincentis. Surviving is his loving and devoted wife, the former Sandra Niemi, whom he married on August 11, 1962.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S.Air Force. He was a member of St. Camillus Church. Richard spent his whole career in education in Youngstown, Ohio spanning from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. He began his career as a teacher at Thorn Hill Elementary School. Richard went on to become the vice principal at Princeton Junior High School and later became the principal of South High School. He retired as the principal of Adams Junior High School in 1995. After retirement, Richard continued working in education as the principal of the CCA Private Prison and taught adult basic education at the Choffin Career and Technical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Richard was an avid bocce player and enjoyed vegetable gardening and wine making. Richard loved spending time with his family and friends and cherished the times with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his four children, Richard A. DeVincentis and wife Brenda of New Castle; David L. DeVincentis and wife Pam of Findlay, OH; Caroline Menz and husband Robert of New Castle; Mark T. DeVincentis and wife Melanie of New Castle; his sister, Lucy Conti of New Castle and his grandchildren, Richard, Natalie, Alexandra, Nicolette, David J., Elizabeth, Ava, Isabelle and Thomas DeVincentis, and, Ian and Cameron Menz.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alfred (Bingo) DeVincentis and his sister,Clara Cournan.
Visitation is Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9:30AM for St. Camillus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father Thomas Lewandowski, pastor of St. Camillus Church will officiate.
Burial will take place at Castleview Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the cemetery.
