Richard DeVincentis

Richard L. DeVincentis, 76, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of December 9, 2013 at Jameson Memorial Hospital.

Born in New Castle on February 15, 1937, Richard was the son of the late Luciano and Filippa Pandolfi DeVincentis. Surviving is his loving and devoted wife, the former Sandra Niemi, whom he married on August 11, 1962.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S.Air Force. He was a member of St. Camillus Church. Richard spent his whole career in education in Youngstown, Ohio spanning from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. He began his career as a teacher at Thorn Hill Elementary School. Richard went on to become the vice principal at Princeton Junior High School and later became the principal of South High School. He retired as the principal of Adams Junior High School in 1995. After retirement, Richard continued working in education as the principal of the CCA Private Prison and taught adult basic education at the Choffin Career and Technical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Richard was an avid bocce player and enjoyed vegetable gardening and wine making. Richard loved spending time with his family and friends and cherished the times with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his four children, Richard A. DeVincentis and wife Brenda of New Castle; David L. DeVincentis and wife Pam of Findlay, OH; Caroline Menz and husband Robert of New Castle; Mark T. DeVincentis and wife Melanie of New Castle; his sister, Lucy Conti of New Castle and his grandchildren, Richard, Natalie, Alexandra, Nicolette, David J., Elizabeth, Ava, Isabelle and Thomas DeVincentis, and, Ian and Cameron Menz.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alfred (Bingo) DeVincentis and his sister,Clara Cournan.

Visitation is Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9:30AM for St. Camillus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father Thomas Lewandowski, pastor of St. Camillus Church will officiate.

Burial will take place at Castleview Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the cemetery.

Sara Schoonmaker

Sara Marie Schoonmaker, 27, of N. Croton Ave. passed away on December 8, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in Buffalo, NY on May 24, 1986, Sara was the daughter of Ronald Geitner and Mary Horsman, both of Rushford, N.Y. She is also survived by her husband, James G. Schoonmaker whom she married on October 18, 2010.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sara is survived by her children, Gregory J., Logan W. Lilli Ann and Noah M. Schoonmaker; her step mother, Kimberly Geitner, stepbrother, Dale Glenn and three sisters, Bonnie Stebbins and her husband, Matt, Dominique Fischer and Megan Kozlowski.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Sankey Center 125 W. Grant St. New Castle, Pa. 16101. A time will be announced.

Christmas Arena

Christmas J. Arena, 97, of W. State Street, Edinburg passed away the morning of December 10, 2013 in Golden Hill Nursing Home.

He was born January 1, 1916 in Hillsville and was the son of the late Nicola and Theresa Scaletta Arena. On May 17, 1947 he married his wife, the former Sally Gentile. She preceded him in death on January 2, 1997.

Mr. Arena retired from US Steel where he worked as a stone crusher. He had also worked for Mahoning Township in the road department and Zarlingo Paving. He was also the owner and operator of Arena Service Station in Edinburg.

Christmas was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II, earning a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Mahoning Sportsman Club and a member of Christ the King Parish. He enjoyed gardening and was well known in the Amish Community as a friend. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Arena is survived by a son, Nicholas Arena of New Castle; a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta Cooper and husband Brian of Edinburg; companion, Anita Yeropoli of Hillsville; daughter-in-law, Ivana Arena of New Castle; sister, Rose Micco of Edinburg; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Arena; an infant son; three brothers, Joseph, Rocco and Patsy Arena; sister, Bertha Arena and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Arena.

Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Church of Christ the King Parish, 175 Martin Kelly Spear Road, Edinburg. A mass of christian burial will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Father James Downs will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Friday at the church. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Dianna Grant Ramovich

Dianna L. Grant Ramovich, 51, of S. Wayne Street passed away December 11, 2013 at her residence. She was born September 5, 1962 and is the daughter of Dominick L. and Mary J. Russo Grant. Her parents survive in New Castle.

Dianna was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Lawrence County Vo-Tech and later when on to graduate and earn a bachelor’s degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant from Penn State University. She was a creative and loving person who enjoyed art, the outdoors and animals. She will be sadly missed. Dianna was a member of St. Vitus Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Adriana Ramovich of Nashville, TN; two sons, Dano Ramovich and Jordan Ramovich both of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Gary Grant and wife Rita and Gregory Grant and wife Melinda all of New Castle; one sister, Michelle Newton and husband Brian of New Castle and she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Dianna was preceded in death by two brothers, Dominick F. Grant and Anthony D. Grant.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Father Frank Almade on Monday at 12:30 PM at St. Vitus Church. A procession will leave the funeral home for church at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.

Lillian Mildred Jones, 97, passed away the morning of December 15,2013 at the Carriage Court in New Castle.

She was born on July 11, 1916 in Toronto, Canada and was preceded in death in 2002, by her husband, Paul Jones, whom she married n 1949.

Lillian was a homemaker and enjoyed shopping and dancing. An active person, she also enjoyed playing the piano, bowling and taking trips to Niagara Falls. Lillian loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Ronald DiNardo and his wife Martha of New Castle; Dorothy Greene and her husband Ronald of Greenville; her stepdaughters, Sandra Burnett and Kathy Ryan, both of Sharpsville; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian is preceded in death by her former husband, Theodore V. DiNardo, one daughter, Gloria Jean Ionta and her brother, Isadore J. Yaffee.

Visitation is Tuesday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11AM at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Matthew Bupp.

Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage, Pa.

Shirley A. Miller, 75, passed away the morning of December 18, 2013 at her residence in New Castle. She was born in New Castle on June 9, 1938 to the late Chester and Sarah Ingle Nicolls. On September 14, 1974, she married her beloved husband, John W. Miller of New Castle. He survives at home.

She loved shopping, going to yard sales, and playing bingo, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her children, Howard Jackson of Honolulu, HI, Nickie Rickel and husband Don of New Castle, Debbie Jackson of New Castle, Tracy Nestorek and husband Bob of New Castle, Ricky Jackson of Youngstown, OH, Mary Ann Byler and husband Ken of New Castle, Amanda Booher and husband Dave of Finleyville, PA, Suzanne Munson and husband Leroy of New Castle, John G. Miller and wife Debbie of New Castle, Elaine Gurtner and husband Jeff of Pulaski, PA, and Mark Miller and wife Sandy Houston, TX; brother, Gary Nicolls and wife Kathleen of New Castle; 40 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harold Nicolls, and sisters, Delores Kirk and Evelyn Johns.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4pm to 7pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11am at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Barbara Moore.

Interment will take place at Castleview Memorial Gardens.

Samuel Bonfield

Samuel W. Bonfield, 88, of New Castle passed away on December 20, 2013 at Select Services at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren, OH.

He was born on December 18, 1925 to the late Nunzio and Angeline Bonfield. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Bernice (Pittochi) Bonfield; two sons, Nunzie Bonfield and wife Carol Ann of New Castle and Sammy Bonfield Jr of Pompano Beach, FL; and granddaughter and the love of his life, Erin. He is also survived by his brothers, Frank Bonfield and wife Alice of New Castle; former daughter-in-law, Paula Bonfield of New Castle; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Hambelton and Stephanie McCandless; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Joseph Bonfield; sister, Margaret Dellio; and nephews, Ronnie Bonfield and Jerry Lombardo.

Sam graduated from New Castle High School in the Class of 1944. He was a World War II veteran, serving his country from 1944 to 1946 and received many combat honors. Samuel was a sergeant in the Army and served in the European Theater in Italy. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Award, World War II Victory Ribbon, and Army Occupation Medal(Italy).Before he retired from Penn Power, he worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Shenango Pottery from 1947 to 1952 and Elliott Steel from 1952 to 1974. Sam was also a long time dedicated member of New Castle Honor Guard, a committee member of the Croton Honor Roll, and a member of St. Vitus Church. He loved gardening, growing vegetables and flowers. Sam was known for being a great neighbor who would help everyone.

Visitation will be held Monday from 4pm to 8pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Tuesday at St. Vitus Church at 10am, officiated by Father William Siple, and a procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30am.

Interment will take place at Parkside Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct full military rites.

H. Roger Bradley, 78, formerly of Oakwood Way passed away the morning of December 24, 2013 at Southpoint at Jameson. Born on June 12, 1935 in Bradford, PA, he was the son of the late William Wallace and Anna Blanche Cope Bradley. On October 28, 1961, he married his loving wife, the former Jean Ann Flynn. She survives at home.

Roger retired from Mohawk High School as their Driver Training Teacher. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and served in the Army Reserves. The Roger that everyone knew was gone years ago, and it was time for his final goodbye. He loved his family and was a good friend to many. Hunting, fishing, and playing tennis and bridge were many of his past times which brought him joy. He spent much time at his cabin where he entertained his many friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Brian Roger Bradley and wife Lynn of Erie, PA; brother, Ronald R. Bradley and wife Sue of New Castle; sister, Sue Waggoner of Jacksonville, FL; and grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Bradley.

Visitation will be held Friday from 11am to 1pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Services will be held Friday at 1pm at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Andrew Jillson of Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Samuel George

Samuel George, 91, of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away on December 28, 2013. Born in New Castle on November 26, 1922, he was a son of the late Alice and Tony George.

Sam was a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. During WWII, he served in an Army Medical Unit in Europe, landing in Normandy six days after D-Day. After the War, he earned a Bachelors Degree in History with a minor in German from Westminster College, and studied in Zurich for one year. During the Korean War, he was recalled, and with his fluency in German, was selected to serve in Military Intelligence in Germany. Returning to his studies when his tour was complete, Sam earned a Masters Degree in History from Pitt, attending school at night and working full time in the steel mills during the day.

The owner of General Floor Covering Inc. in New Castle, Sam was an avid golfer, who also enjoyed travel, reading and working in his garden. He had a deep interest in current affairs and served as an Alternate Delegate to the GOP Convention in Miami in 1968.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Nell, a native of Alabama whom he met while stationed at Fort Rucker after he was recalled into the Army in 1950. She passed away on December 22, 1988, after a courageous struggle with cancer. They shared 37 wonderful years together.

Others who have passed include an infant son, Anthony, brothers; Fred, Mike and Tom, and sisters Phoebe Farris, Joan Moses and Margaret Miller.

Survivors include his daughter Lisa (Lou) Zickar, son, Sam (Emily), grandchildren, Allie and Sam Zickar, all of Alexandria, Virginia; brothers, Bob and Jim of New Castle; and his dear friend and companion, Sheryl Shoup of Hobe Sound.

Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity in Sam’s name.

Stephen (Steve) Williams

Stephen (Steve) J. Williams, 65, of Union Township passed away the afternoon of December 28, 2013 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Born in New Castle on November 29, 1948, Steve was the son of the late John B. and Catherine Gaione Williams. Surviving at home is his loving and devoted wife, the former Janis Costa whom he married on November 29, 1969.

Steve was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. He was a 1966 graduate of Union Area High School and went on to graduate from Youngstown State University in 1971. Steve retired from Masterworks Paints and prior to that he had worked at Sears Department Store.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where he had recently earned his Golden Eagle and the Casimir Pulaski Club. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a avid golfer participating in different local leagues. He was also known for his homemade sausage. Steve was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished the times he spent with his family. He especially loved the times he spent with his four grandsons and was known for attending all their sporting events.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his two daughters both of New Castle, Aleah Kelly and husband TJ and Stephanie Kelly and husband Joe; his brother, John Williams and wife Patti of New Castle; his sister, Lillian Manos and husband Sam of Deltona, FL; and his four grandsons, Joshua, Austin, Carson and Hunter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marie Squeglia and his mother-in-law and father -in-law, Tony and Dora Costa.

Visitation is Thursday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 941 S. Mill St.

A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 9:30AM for St. Mary’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM.

Entombment will take place at Parkside Mausoleum.

Regina B. Clarke of New Castle passed away the evening of December 28, 2013. She was born to the late Harry and Sarah Schuller Polding. In 1960, she married Roderick Clarke, and the two spent many happy years together until he preceded her in death.

She worked as a secretary for Liberty Mutual Insurance and was a member of the First Alliance Church. She loved gardening and sewing.

She is survived by her children, Sara Jones and husband John of Camp Springs, MD, Saundra Clarke of Girard, OH, and Roddy Clarke of New Castle; brother, Dana Polding of New Castle; sister, Ruth Kennedy and husband Donald of New Castle; and grandchildren, Stanely, Jack, and Sean McNutt. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by an infant daughter, seven brothers, and one sister.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2:30pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd, officiated by Rev. Dennis Bupp.

Entombment will take place at Parkside Mausoleum.

Daniel Morgan

Daniel Morgan, 86, of Ryan Ave passed away the afternoon of December 30, 2013 at Haven Convalescent Home. Born on August 22, 1927 in Whiting, IN, he was the son of the late Herbert and Matilda James Morgan. On August 16, 1956, he married his loving wife, the former Frances L. Kidoor. She survives in New Castle.

Daniel retired from his position as a steelworker from Fleming Steel and had previously worked for Mesta Machine and Johnson Bronze. He was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church and served in the Us Navy during WWII. He also served as a Fourth Ward Democratic Committeeman. Daniel also loved Steelers football and tailgating. His greatest joy came from going to his grandchildren’s events.

In addition to his wife, Daniel is survived by his daughters, Tracie Montanari and husband Robert of New Castle and Danna Morgan of Pittsburgh; his dear niece, Diane McGivenn Flood of Mount Airy, MD; and his two grandchildren whom he adored, Rob and Kaylee Montanari.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and John Morgan, and sister, Dorothy McGivern.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4pm to 8pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St.

Services will be held Saturday at 11am at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Michael Spicuzza, pastor of Third Presbyterian Church.

Interment will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.

Floyd (Milt) Cover

Floyd (Milt) Cover, 80, of Wilmington Road passed away the morning of January 1, 2014 in Jameson Hospital.

He was born September 27, 1933 in New Castle and was the son of the late Chester C. and Viola Mae Dodds Cover. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Joan Frickanish whom he married June 8, 1974.

Mr. Cover retired from Flowline in 1995 after 43 years working as a machine operator. He was a United States Army veteran; serving during the Korean War. He had a great interest in and enjoyed working with model trains; including setting up displays and reading train magazines especially Rail Pace Magazine. He enjoyed puzzle making and building frames for puzzles. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be sadly missed. Floyd was a member of Shenango Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, Floyd is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Trudy L. Weakley of Sharon and Sonia J. Benson and husband C. Thomas of Volant; one brother, Robert Dale Cover and wife Monica of North Little Rock, AK; brother-in-law, Jack Frickanish and wife Ruth of Ellwood City; sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Nerti and husband Phil of Wampum and Joyce Dailey and husband Richard of Girard, OH; two grandchildren, two step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Leta Cover McCoy.

Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. A service will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Reverend Amy Na of Shenango Presbyterian Church will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard Saturday morning at the funeral home. Interment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in Floyd’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.

James C. Cook, 57, of New Castle passed away the morning of January 3, 2014 at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Farrell. He was born on March 26, 1956 in New Castle to the late Vincent J. and Grace Hoover Cook. On March 11, 1978, he married his loving wife, the former Dottie Mooney. She survives at home.

For 26 years, James worked as a Transport Driver for Reed Oil Co. He was also a member of St. Vitus Church. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all of the Pittsburgh sports teams. James will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Ashley Bonkoski and husband Alex and Marcus Cook, all of New Castle, and sister, Beverly McCracken and husband Sam of Slippery Rock, PA.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 4pm to 7pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St.

Nick Natale, Jr., of New Castle passed away on January 2, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman, Ohio following an extended illness.

He was born in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Nick, Sr. and Jennie Krichie Natale. Surviving at home is his loving wife the former Gloria Carr whom he married in 1992. He retired from Advance Auto Parts. He enjoyed drag racing, visiting casinos and horse tracks. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Nick is survived by his four children, Nick Natale, III and his wife Vicki of Bessemer; Jeff Natale of New Castle; Todd Natale of Bessemer; Debbie Napadano and husband Ed of New Castle; his brother, Joe Beres of Cleveland; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.

He was born March 24, 1922 in New Castle and was the son of the late Michael and Florence Perfilio Bucci. He is survived by his loving wife, whom he married May 22, 1943, the former Madeline Minice.

In 1988 Mr. Bucci retired from the County of Lawrence where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a United States Army veteran; serving in World War II. He was a member of St. Vitus Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW Post #315. Alfred was an avid golfer and in earlier years an outstanding football player. He was New Castle High Schools first All State Player in football and was inducted into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 for his football accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Thomasina Abdoe and husband Omar of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Diana Bucci of Williamsburg, VA; brother, Donald Bucci of Youngstown, OH; three grandchildren, Lisa Abdoe Reeping and husband Jeff, Scott Bucci and wife Melissa and Mark Bucci and wife Courtney and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bucci and three brothers, William Bucci, Henry Bucci and Arthur Bucci.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle, PA. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 AM for a mass of christian burial to be celebrated by Father Nicholas Vaskov at 10:00 AM at St. Vitus Church, New Castle, PA. Interment will be in St. Vitus Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Wednesday morning at the funeral home at 9:15 AM.
