Thomas Berardi

Thomas Berardi, 52, of Willowhurst Circle, passed away the evening of November 20, 2013 at his residence. Born on August 12, 1961 in Pittsburgh, PA, Thomas was the son of Gennaro Berardi and Kathryn Schmidtetter Pickerine, both of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also survived by his step-father, Harry Pickerine of Pittsburgh, PA, former wife, Christy Carbone Berardi of New Castle, and former wife and girlfriend, Marcie Harding Berardi of New Castle.

Thomas had worked as a truck driver for Fulena Pavers Inc. and, before that, Bruce & Merilees Electric. He had also previously worked as a bricklayer and barber. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed going to games. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his children.

Survivors also include Thomas’s children, Thomas A. Berardi, Taylor Ann Berardi, Nick A. Berardi, and stepson John Campbell, all of New Castle; and his brothers, Silvestro (Sonny) and David Berardi of Pittsburgh. Thomas is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Grace Schmidtetter, and paternal grandparents, Albertina and Silvestro Berardi.

Visitation will be held 11am to 1pm on Monday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Services will be held at 1pm at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Dennis Bupp.

Interment will take place at Parkside Cemetery.

James Jones

James Richard “Dick” Jones, 67, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully with his family at his side the afternoon of November 21, 2013 in Mercy Hospital. Born on August 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Richard and Alice Louise Mitchell Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie R. Jones. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer R. Lennie; her husband, Ryan W. Lennie; and two granddaughters who he adored, Grace and Katherine Lennie.

Originally from Punxsutawney, Dick graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. While at Bucknell, he was chosen to perform with the School Chorus of America which toured the USA and Europe. He completed his Master’s degree in Elementary Education at Westminster College.

Dick taught music at several different schools in the New Castle School District including Ben Franklin, Lincoln Garfield, West Pittsburg, and Mahoning where he directed many shows including Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz. He also taught kindergarten at Croton School.

Upon his retirement, he became a musical theater professor at Point Park University. Dick was a former member of Northminster Church where he had been the organist for several years. Dick loved Disney World and had the joy of being there with his granddaughters.

Dick loved the theater and performed in numerous plays at the New Castle Playhouse including Mame and Cabaret. He also performed with the Red Barn Players, the Nutmeg Players in Madison, CT, and the theater at Clarion University. He also helped with Neshannock’s musicals where his daughter performed. Dick was a member of the Chordially Yours Barbershop Quartet. He was also a 32 degree Mason belonging to the New Castle Valley Consistory.

Visitation will be held Monday from 4pm to 8pm and Tuesday from 10am to 11am at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home 3000 Wilmington Rd. Services will take place Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home.

Audrey Jackson

Audrey M. Jackson, 80, of Carson St. went to be with her Lord and Savior the morning of November 20, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born in New Castle on September 10, 1933, Audrey was the daughter of the late Theodore, Sr. and Otha Simmons Jackson.

She was a devoted member of the Second Baptist Church where she was the former financial secretary, a missionary and the pastor’s aide. Audrey retired as a elementary school teacher where she had taught in New Jersey for thirty three years.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her brother, Theodore Jackson, Jr. and her sister, Gail Jackson Betts.

Visitation is Monday at Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101 at 10:15 am followed by a Homegoing Service at 11:00 am. Pastor Norman Hunt of Second Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.

Mary Moses

Mary A. Moses, 89, of Wilson Ave. passed away the morning of November 23, 2013 at UPMC Horizon Hospital.

Born on June 30, 1924 in New Castle, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph Y. and Raffa M. Yaoub Moses. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.

She had been a cashier for A&M Supermarket and after working for many years retired in 1989. Mary’s life revolved around her family. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family and cherished being surrounded by all her family, especially her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She is survived by her sister, Julia Piccione of New Castle; her brother, Edward Moses and his wife Theresa; sisters-in-law, Agnes Moses and Theresa Moses, all of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her six brothers, John Moses, George Moses, Anthony Moses, Albert (Cab) Moses, James Moses, Donald Moses, and two sisters, Sophia Moses and Jane Beshero Moses.

Visitation is Monday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.

A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 9:30AM for St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church where a funeral liturgy will be celebrated by Rev. Father Claude Franklin at 10:00AM.

Burial will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.

Eleanor Ross McCummins, 81, of W. Pike St. in Houston, Pa., passed away the morning of November 22, 2013 in McMurray, Pa.

Born in New Castle on December 1, 1931, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Argentina Mucci DePolis. Preceding her in death was her former husband, Louis D. Ross and her husband, Lee J. McCummins.

She was a former member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Eleanor had worked as the office manager for a electrical contractor in California. She enjoyed going to festivals, gardening, reading and playing bingo. Eleanor cherished the times spent with her family.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Ames and husband Richard of Eighty Four, Pa; Linda Bennett and husband Ken of Renfrew, PA; her brothers, Albert DePolis and wife Delores of Las Vegas; Fred DePolis and his companion, Dolly Mastroianni of New Castle; Ronald DePolis and wife Annette of Long Island, NY; her grandchildren, John and Crystal and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her sister, Jilda Warren Pascarella.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.

A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11AM officiated by Rev. Father Nicholas Vaskov of St. Vincent de Paul Church.

Calvin DuBrock

Calvin L. DuBrock, 82, of Moravia Street passed away the morning of November 24, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. He was born September 10, 1931 in New Castle and was the son of the late Levi F. and Mary M. Yount DuBrock. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Janet M. Pittaway whom he married July 5, 1952.

Calvin was a United States Army veteran who was honorably discharged as a sergeant after serving from March 1952 to February 1954. He served during the Korean War. In earlier years, Mr. DuBrock worked for the American Cyanamid Company. He retired from Universal Rundle where he worked as a castor. After retirement he worked as an assistant manager for Red Apple Service Station for several years and was also an officer and tended bar at the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years. Calvin was an enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate fan. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who cherished the time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Calvin W. DuBrock and wife Cindy of Hummelstown, PA and Richard L. DuBrock of Woburn, MA; two daughters, Marsi L. Skenandore and husband David of Wadsworth, NV and Patty Szelega of Edicott, NY; brother, Gerald “Abe” DuBrock of New Castle; grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Meghan, Tony, Samuel, Shannon, Brianna, Kilee, Jason and Matthew and great grandchildren, Evan and Everly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret “Peg” Gwin and Mamie Wiseman and one brother, Richard “Dick” DuBrock.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. A service will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home at 1:00 PM. Reverend David Bell will officiate. Interment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.

Michael Marcantino

Michael F. Marcantino, 94, of Ninth St., West Pittsburg, passed away November 24, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

Born on October 11, 1919 in New Castle, Michael was the son of the late Andrea and Rose Capots Marcantino. Preceding him in death on January 13, 2013, was his wife, the former Fannie Othites, whom he married in 1952.

Michael was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired from the Penn Power Company where he worked as a weigh man for over thirty years. Michael was a avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and checkers. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and his family was very dear to him.

Michael is survived by his children, Michael Marcantino and wife Sharon of Dillsburg, PA; Patti Marcantino and husband John Wesolowski of West Lake, OH; two grandchildren, Ashley Greathouse, Anne Marie Reck and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Michael is preceded in death by his four brothers, James, Amiel, John and Robert Marcantino and three sisters, Rose Marcantino, Josephine Tate and Helen Fazzone.

Visitation is Tuesday from 3PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.

The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15AM. A procession will then leave the funeral home at 9:30AM for St. Vincent de Paul Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. officiated by Rev. Father Nicholas Vaskov.

Burial will take place at Parkside Cemetery.

Timothy McMillen of Smithfield St. passed away the morning of November 21, 2013 at Jameson Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on February 13, 1964, Timothy was the son of the late John and Wilma Allinder McMillen. He is survived by his wife, the former Amy Rea, whom he married on June 15, 2001.

Tim is also survived by his children, Irelynn McMillien, Nicholas McMillen, his stepson, Raymond Rea, all of New Castle; three brothers, John McMillen of Marienville, PA; Charles McMillen of Titsville, PA; Daniel McMillen of St. Mary’s, PA; his sister, Tammy LaRoche and husband Kevin of Endeavor, Pa; and four grandchildren.

Cynthia E. Hasson, 57, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 23, 2013 at her residence.

Born on April 6, 1956 in Kittery, Maine, Cynthia was the daughter of Albert E. and Gwendolyn N. Hasson. She graduated from Roswell High, Roswell, New Mexico in 1974, and worked as a medical secretary in Roswell and in Youngstown, Ohio before retiring in New Castle.
Her mother survives in New Castle and her father preceded her in death. Cynthia attended New Hope Wesleyan Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sisters, Cheryl Crawford of Youngstown, OH; Caren Barry of Texas; Jessica Hasson-Whitson of Florida; her aunt, Gloria Bolin; her niece, Amanda Rayome and her nephew, Robert O. Barry, III.

Services are private.

Nancy K. Galiano, 84, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 26, 2013 in Jameson Hospital.

Born May 26, 1929 in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Lena Orrico Julian. She is survived by her loving husband, Anthony B. Galiano, whom she married June 2, 1951.

In her earlier years, Mrs. Galiano worked for Bell Telephone. She later worked for WT Grants and retired from Kmart where she worked as a cashier. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and entertaining all who entered her home. Nancy was a kind, warm-hearted soul who treated everyone like they were her family. She was always the life of the party and she loved to laugh and extend a warm smile to all. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who lived her life to the fullest.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children, Ronald A. Galiano and wife Pam of McMurray, Pa; Deanna L. Vitale and husband Patsy of New Castle, Pa; her brother, Vincent Julian of Cleveland, OH; and her grandchildren, Amanda Vitale, Brittany Galiano, and Kristen and husband Alex Snyder.

Visitation is Friday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd.

A funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30AM for St. Camillus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father Thomas Lewandowski , pastor of St. Camillus Church will officiate.

John Flynn

John R. Flynn, 59, of Evergreen Rd. went home to be with the Lord the evening of November 22, 2013. Born in Albany, New York on July 19, 1954, John is the son of the late John J. and Ethel Jean Oakley Flynn. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Gertrude Reader, whom he married on January 19,1985.

John was a member and served on the Board of Directors for the Disability Options Network; he had previously been its Treasurer and Secretary. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1977 to 1986. An avid academic, he earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminal Justice and Anthropology. John also loved reading; most of all, he loved studying the Bible. John also enjoyed painting and playing with his dog, Riley.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his brothers, James Flynn and wife Karen, Daniel Flynn, and Thomas Flynn, all of Albany, NY.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Barnstone Ministries 251 S. Stateline Rd New Bedford, PA 16140, officiated by Rev. Albert Librizzi, which will begin following Sunday services which start at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Barnstone Ministries.

Dorothy (Cookie) Prestopine, 66, of Union Township passed away the morning of November 27, 2013 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born February 5, 1947 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Conti Conglose.

In earlier years, Dorothy worked for First National Bank. She had also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Reed. She was a member of St. Vitus Church, a member and past officer of the church’s Ladies Guild and a member of the guild’s Sunshine Committee. She enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by two children, Susan Wellman and husband Rodney of Trabuco Canyon, CA and David Prestopine and wife Shannon of New Castle; one sister, Beverly Urian and husband Ron of New Castle and three grandchildren, Cameron, Camryn and Hayden.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. Martha Hunt, 71, of Portersville, PA, passed away the morning of November 27, 2013 at her residence. Born on February 10, 1942 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Marion Anderson Ketzel. On June 3, 1961, she married her loving husband, Warren Hunt, who survives at home.

Martha was a member of Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Alliance Church and loved to travel. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her friends and family.

In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by her children, Shelley Basich and husband Tim of Leetonia, OH, David Hunt and wife Sharon of Hanover, PA, and Darrell Hunt and wife Stacey of Portersville, PA; brothers, Edward Ketzel and Charles Ketzel, both of New Castle; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:30PM to 2:30PM at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St.

Services will take place Saturday at 2:30PM at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Larry Llewellyn, pastor of Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

Flora I. Ambrose, 89, of Jameson Care Center, formerly of Penn Blvd, passed away the afternoon of November 26, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on August 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Margaret Lombardo DeLuca. On February 19, 1949, she married James Ambrose, and the two spent many happy years together until he preceded her in death on May 29, 2003.

Flora was a member of St. Vitus Church. She loved cooking and visiting casinos, but her greatest joy came from spending time with and gathering her family together. She loved her grandchildren dearly.

Survivors include her daughters, Victoria Wooley and husband Robert of New Castle, Dawn Book and husband Richard of New Castle, and Cynthia Ambrose and partner James Stowers of Pittsburgh, PA; sisters, Rose Pelini, Norma Ferrare, Alba Nativio, and Stella Valentino, all of New Castle; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Liverani, Fernanda Leone, Florence Cutlep, and Edna Christopher; and brother, Anthony DeLuca.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5pm to 8pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 10am at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon John Carran.

Interment will take place in St. Lucy Cemetery.

Lisa Robb, 48, of Edinburg Road passed away the morning of November 30, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 3, 1965 in New Castle and was the daughter of the late Herman D. and Carmella Salzillo Baskeyfield. She is survived by her husband, Robert Robb whom she married March 17, 1990.

In earlier years Mrs. Robb had worked for a local nursing home as a nurses aide. She loved to cook and was a loving person who cherished the time spent with her family. She also loved her cats. Lisa was a member of Mt. Jackson Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Bobby Robb and Carmen Robb both at home; cousin, Jimmy Vitullo and wife Doreen of New Castle; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Sandra Robb and Thomas and Linda Robb; two nieces and one nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Diane M. Lingenfelter and a brother, David A. Baskeyfield.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street. A service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Reverend Russell Shuluga will officiate. Entombment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Ellwood City.

Former New Castle resident, John S. Mora, 71, of Stonegate Boulevard, Hermitage passed away the evening of November 30, 2013 in Sharon Regional Hospital.

He was born May 18, 1942 in Ellwood City and was the son of the late Stanley and Florence “Flo” Marapese Mora. He is survived by his wife, the former Betsy Gunther whom he married in February 1990.

Mr. Mora was a truck driver, retiring in 2004 and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed snow skiing. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy and was so important to him. John was a former member of St. Vitus Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, John T. Mora and wife Kathleen of Stafford County, VA, Jill Mora of Wilmington, NC and Joseph Tuscano of New Castle; one brother, Ronald Mora of Chewton, PA; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild and his dog, Chuck.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle. A blessing service will be held Tuesday at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Father Frank Almade of St. Vitus Church will officiate. Interment will be in Clinton Cemetery, Wampum.

Ronald C. Reno, 55, of Old Pittsburgh Rd, passed away the evening of December 4, 2013 at Jameson Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born on October 30, 1958 in Ellwood City, PA to Ronald E. Reno and the late Nancy Jane Glover Reno. His father survives in New Castle.

Ronald had worked with his father at Reno Construction and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his father, Ronald is survived by his daughter, Tanya Stunkard and husband Daniel of New Castle; brother, Frank Snyder of New Castle; sisters, Donna Jane Bortz, Tammy Sue Norco and husband John, and Linda Maitland, all of New Castle; and three grandchildren. Along with his mother, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Lynn Reno.

Visitation will take place Saturday from 12pm to 2pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Services will be held at 2pm at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Charles Jewel.

Gilda Fidell

Gilda Fidell, 95, of Clayton St. passed away the evening of December 7, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. On February 1, 1918 in New Castle, she was born to the late Peter and Amelia Pantolone Ryan. She married Victor Fidell on October 15, 1948, and the two spent many happy years together until he preceded her in death on December 11, 1997.

Gilda was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish and also belonged to the Blue Army and People Concerned for the Unborn Child. She was an avid reader of political and religious books. While she loved cooking and baking, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Elisco and husband David of New Castle and Marilyn Susa and husband Tom of Beaver Falls, PA; sister, Edith A. Ryan of New Castle; grandchildren, Melinda Moore and husband Ryan, Jim Pezzone, and Matthew Susa; and great-grandchildren, Alexandrea Moore and Annalynn Lalama.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Fred, Dan, Tony, and Joseph Ryan; sisters, Mary Panella, Christine Ryan, Clotilda Nocera, Arcelia Childers, and Helen Passalinqua; and granddaughter, Christine Pezzone Lalama.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 4pm to 7pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10am at St. Vincent DePaul Church, conducted by Father Nicholas Vaskov. A procession will leave from the funeral home at 9:30am.

Interment will take place at St. Lucy Cemetery.

Bridget P. Owens, 78, of W. Chartes St. passed away the morning of December 8, 2013 at Jameson Hospital.

Born on July 21, 1935 in Dublin, Ireland, Bridget was the daughter of the late John and Mary Nelson Grehan. Preceding her in death on March 14, 2010, is her husband Larry Owens.

Bridget was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish. She had worked as a housekeeper for the Blair family for many years. Bridget was an avid reader and enjoyed walking and gardening.

She is survived by her three sons, Larry Owens, Jr.; James Owens, John Owens, and her daughter, Frances Bromley, all of New Castle; her brothers, Jerry Grehan of England; James Grehan of New Castle; and her sister, Kathleen Carney of Ireland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bridget is preceded in death by two children, Kathleen Owens and Brian Owens, brothers, Hugh, John, Patrick and Joseph Grehan and her sisters, Maisie Weeks and Peggy Grehan.

Visitation is Wednesday from 11:30AM to 12:30PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will take place on Wednesday at 12:30PM at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Father William Siple of St. Vincent De Paul Church.

Burial will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
