John Charles Audino, 88, of Warren Avenue, died on April 15 at 9:20 a.m. at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Mr. Audino was born on March 12, 1928, in New Castle. He was the son of the late Ralph and Emma (Sorger) Audino. Mr. Audino is survived by his wife, Dolores (Dee Barletto), two daughters, Anna and Annette, and son-in-law Joel Santolla. He is also survived by his granddaughters and their husbands, Jennedy and Christopher Johnson and Joelle and Pearce Shea, and four great-granddaughters, Giovanna, Lucia, and Celestina Johnson and Eleanor Shea. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Patsy (Rose) and Paul (Kitty) Audino, and sisters Mary (Joseph) Romeo and Esther Margaret (Pete) Horney. He was also preceded in death by his mother- and father-in law, Michael and Catherine Barletto, who were like parents to him. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Audino served in the Navy after graduating from New Castle High School. In the 1950s and early 1960s, he was the manager of Moses Service Station on Long Avenue and then continued his service as a New Castle City Police officer. In 1969, Mr. Audino developed the statistical records department for the New Castle Police Department. This information was collected, recorded and microfilmed for the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He retired as a sergeant in 1987. Mr. Audino also worked as a driver for Allied Transportation services, where he continued to serve the people of New Castle. Mr. Audino was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP # 21, N.C.P.D.) and a parishioner of Mary, Mother of Hope Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and Steeler fan. He will be remembered for his kindness and fondness for the city of New Castle and, above all else, his sacrificial love for his family. An avid crossword puzzle finisher, Mr. Audino already had the right answers: faith, family, and love. There are no calling hours planned. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday at 10:00am at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery.
