Karen A. Winkle, 65, of Freedom, PA, passed away on March 17, 2016 at West Penn Hospital. Born on August 9, 1950 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Grace Ona Russo and the late Albert Russo. Surviving at home is her beloved husband of 6 years, Robert Winkle, whom she married on October 23, 2009. Karen worked as an office manager for Elcon Technologies in Pittsburgh, PA. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, PA. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Youngstown State University. Karen enjoyed playing the piano and organ, gardening, needlepoint, and antiquing. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her mother and husband, Karen is survived by her children, Janie Gibson and husband Mike of Wampum, PA and Megan Ammons and husband Ben of Swedesboro, NJ; sisters, Patricia Cardella and Mary Margaret Rainey and husband John, all of New Castle; and grandchildren, Nathan Gibson, Monica Gibson, Karina Ammons, and Rosalie Ammons. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Christopher Greco, and father- and mother-in-law, Wesley and Carol Winkle. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Monday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Vincent DePaul Church, officiated by Reverend Larry Adams. Interment will take place in St. Lucy Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s honor to the American Cancer Society 320 Bilmar Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
