Mary Ann Strawhecker, 85, of New Castle, passed away the evening of December 9, 2015 at her daughter’s residence. Born on October 20, 1930 in Sylvania, OH, she was the daughter of the late Anton Sr. and Esther Phillips Durst. On October 23, 1948, she married her beloved husband, George D. Strawhecker, and the two spent over 66 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on July 24, 2015. Mary Ann was known as the best stay at home mother, an excellent homemaker, a remarkable seamstress, and a superior cook. A devout and active member of Westfield Presbyterian Church, she was a choir member and belonged to many church committees, including the funeral committee and youth committee, and she also assembled the monthly newsletter. Mary Ann also belonged to the Mohawk Community Cotre, a local dance club. She enjoyed gardening. Her family meant the world to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Mary Ann is survived by her children, Trudy McEwen and husband Robert of New Castle and Linda McBride of Enon Valley, PA; grandchildren, Michael McBride and wife Mandi, Shelli McBride, David McBride and wife Shelby, and Christopher McEwen; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Mikenzi, Malayna, Marli, Scarlett, and Shaley McBride. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Leslie McBride; brothers, Anton Jr., Frank, and Fred Durst; and sister, Elsie Kostelnik. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00am to 11:00am at Westfield Presbyterian Church. Services will be conducted Friday at 11:00am at the church, officiated by Reverend Paul Votaw. Interment will take place at Westfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ann’s honor to Westfield Presbyterian Church, 1363 Mt. Jackson Rd., New Castle, PA 16102.
