Former Okinawa Drive resident, Martha J. Ross, 96, of Penny Lane, passed away the evening of October 13, 2015 at Jameson Care Center. Born on May 9, 1919 in Scottdale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Winifred Cafferty Clark. On November 22, 1945, she married her beloved husband, Victor H. Ross Sr., and the two spent over 58 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on November 28, 2003. In her earlier years, Martha worked as a registered nurse for Shenango Pottery and the New Castle Hospital. Martha then devoted her life to raising her family. She was a member of St. Camillus Church. An avid golfer, she belonged to the New Castle Country Club. Martha also was a member of the Walmo Garden Club, and she had served on the committee of the Festival of Trees. Martha’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martha is survived by her children, Marty Ross Whittaker and husband Bill of State College, PA and Victor H. Ross Jr. and wife Pamela of New Castle; grandchildren, Jill, Lynn, and Sara; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ellen; sister, Ruth Garbett; and brothers, Emmett Clark, Jack Clark, and Robert Clark. There are no calling hours planned. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday at 10:00am at St. Camillus Church, officiated by Father Michael Peck. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Mausoleum. The family asks that memorial contributions be made in Martha’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
