Fred Sparano, Sr., 89, of New Castle passed away the morning of January 20, 2013 at the Overlook Medical Clinic in New Wilmington, Pa. Born in New Castle on March 1, 1923, Fred was the son of the late Fred and Mary DeLillo Sparano. Preceding him in death on October 12, 2004 is his wife, the former Theresa V. DiBiase, who he married on February 25, 1943. Fred was a devoted member of St. Vitus Church where he was also an usher. He was a WWII veteran serving with the US Army Air Corps in Europe. He retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Fred was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed playing bocce. Survivors include his son, Fred Sparano, Jr. and his wife Sandy of New Castle; his stepson, Alex Pagley of CA; one brother, Joseph Sparano of New Castle; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Fred is preceded in death by his step daughter, Lucille Sommerfield, two brothers, Pete Sparano, James Sparano and his sister, Margaret Chrobak. Visitation is Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father Frank Almade, pastor of St. Vitus Church will officiate. Entombment will take place at Parkside Mausoleum. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military Honors at the Mausoleum.
