Gary A. Zarilla, Sr., 65, of E. Clayton St., passed away the afternoon of August 7, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born in New Castle on January 5, 1949, he is the son of the late Paul and Dorothy M. Duffy Reed Zarilla. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of 39 years, the former Denise Barbato, whom he married on December 23, 1974. After working for 12 years, Gary retired from his job as a veteran representative for the Department of Labor and Industry. Prior to that, Gary was a career Army soldier for 28 years, beginning with his service during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church. A very patriotic man, Gary held a deep love and respect for his country. He loved boating, travelling, and sports, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his children, Gary Zarilla, Jr. and wife Tiffany, Bobby Zarilla, and Kelly Zarilla, all of New Castle; brother, Clyde W. Reed of New Castle; sisters, Linda Funera and husband Michael and Rose Jenista, all of New Castle; and grandchildren, Antonio Zarilla and Olivia Zarilla. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Joane C. Reiter. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 1:00pm at the funeral home, conducted by Father Frank Almade, pastor of St. Vincent DePaul Church. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the funeral home on Saturday.
