John D. Penwell, 60, of Penwell Lane, Hillsville passed away the morning of December 2, 2012 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born July 1, 1952 in New Castle and was the son of John K. and Mary Margaret Taylor Penwell. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in New Castle. He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Pezzulo whom he married August 24, 1973. Mr. Penwell retired from Essroc, formerly Carbon Limestone where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Christ the King Parish and a member of the former St. Lucy Club. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Mahoning Sportman’s Club, the Coon and Fox Hunting Club and the Johnson Club. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved and cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a son, Jonathan Penwell and fiance Heather Moore of Pulaski; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Erwin of Ocean City, MD; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Dr. Daniel D’Amato; brother-in-law, Charles Pezzulo; two grandchildren, Brayden Penwell and Brianna Penwell; four step-grandchildren, Samantha and husband Pedro, Camrynn, Cadan and Hunter and is also survived by several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. A blessing service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Reverend James Downs of Christ the King Parish and Reverend Erin Boyer of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
