Retired Chief of Police, Daniel A. Malley, Sr., 89, of Ryan Ave. passed away the evening of April 21, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on August 7, 1924, Daniel was the son of the late Luciano and Anna Morga Malizia. Preceding him in death on September 4, 2008 is his wife the former Joan DiDario, whom he married on April 12, 1947. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Daniel was a WWII U.S. Army veteran serving in the European Theatre and the Invasion of Normandy. He retired as the Chief of Police in 1987 from the New Castle Police Department after thirty four years of service and dedication to the city. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Daniel enjoyed playing bocce, playing in several leagues and was instrumental in the planning and construction of the bocce courts at Cascade Park. He enjoyed sports, especially watching his grandchildren over the years playing and coaching. Daniel loved and cherished the times he spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He is survived by his three children, Lorraine Geramita; Daniel A. Malley, Jr. and wife Vickie; Paul Malley, Sr. and wife Frances, all of New Castle; his sister, Eleanor Jannetti of New Middletown, OH; eight grandchildren, Dr. Anthony Geramita, Melissa Geramita-Micco and husband Michael, Robert Geramita and wife Gina, Matthew Malley, Jeff Malley, Paul L. Malley, Jr. and wife Leslie, Danielle Hartje and husband Ed, Michael Malley and seven great-grandsons, Antonio, Gianni, Santino, Salvatore, Paul III, Jason and Cameron. In addition to his parents and wife, Daniel is preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Malley, four brothers, Sam Malizia, Joe Malizia, Sr., Louis Malley, infant Benny Malizia and three sisters, Philomena DeSimone, Louise Malley and Pauline Verzilli. Visitation is Thursday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning at 9:30AM for St. Joseph the Worker Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM by Rev. Father Nicholas Vaskov. Interment will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors at the Cemetery.
