Gaylord M. Byers, 67, of New Castle passed away March 31, 2014 at Jameson Hospital. Born on October 11, 1946 in New Castle, Gaylord was the son of the late Kenneth M. and Vivian E. Vogan Byers. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Nikkie Martino, whom he married on October 7, 2000. He was a member of the Croton Methodist Church and had served with the National Guard. Gaylord had previously worked for Mesta Machine Corporation, Nepco Plastics and IPEC. He was an avid fan of football and baseball and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gaylord cherished the times he spent with his family and watching his grandchildren play softball and baseball. In addition to his wife, Gaylord is survived by his three children, Curtis Byers and wife Stacey of New Castle; Mary Stone of New Castle; David Byers of Coraopolis; three stepchildren, Marlene Regan and husband Mackenzy; Renee Gibbs and Gregory Gibbs, Jr., all of New Castle; his sister, Diana Biller of Texas and twelve grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughter, Crystal Al-Ababseh and grandson, Cameron Tranquillo. Visitation is Thursday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 12Noon officiated by Rev. Nancy Shute of Croton Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
