Doris Irene Minner Applegate, 85, of Franklin Ave., Ellwood City, passed away the evening of March 30, 2014 in the Avalon Nursing Home. Born in New Castle on April 11, 1928, Doris was the daughter of the late Bryan Jennings and Margaret Irene Rodgers Minner. Preceding her in death in 1997 is her husband, Lester C. Applegate. She enjoyed sewing, doing seamstress work and reading. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Majors Jeffrey of Ellwood City; her son, John William Majors of Wellsboro, OH; her brothers, Richard Minner of New Castle; James Minner and wife Jean of Mt. Jackson; her niece, Jenny Minner of Mt. Jackson; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Doris is preceded in death by her former husband, John Kenneth Majors, her grandson, John William Majors, Jr. and her sister, Patricia A. Minner-Newton. Visitation is Wednesday from 4PM to 6PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A service will be held at 6PM on Wednesday at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Richard Nero. Burial will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
