Bernice Hardney, 79, of Smithfield St. passed away March 12, 2014 at the Overlook Medical Clinic. Born in New Castle on January 17, 1935, Bernice was the daughter of the late Owens and Margaret Bell Hardney. Bernice was a member of St. John United Holy Church. She had worked as a nurse’s aide for St. Francis Hospital, Jameson Memorial Hospital and several local nursing homes. In earlier years, Bernice had worked for Shenango China. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Marvin Lyndell Hardney and wife Joyce of Allentown, Pa; her longtime companion, Zollie Talley; her cousin, whom she was very close with, Jimmy Belle of New Castle; her two nieces and caregivers, M. Lee Johnston and Robbin Carter, her granddaughter, Jarisa White and three great-grandchildren, Tiziah White, Tayvon White and Christopher White and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Susie Bell Johnson. Visitation is Wednesday from 12PM to 1PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1PM on Wednesday officiated by Pastor Clarence Tucker of St. John United Holy Church. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
