Roger Monaco

Roger C. (Pogie) Monaco, 62, of Williams St. passed away the evening of March 8, 2014 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. Born in New Castle on March 28, 1951, Roger was the son of the late Roger A. and Margaret Conti Monaco. Surviving at home is his loving and devoted wife, the former Linda Cioppa, whom he married on September 13, 1980. Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam era. He attended St. Vitus Church. Roger had worked for the R.E. Whittaker Company and prior to that had worked as a weigh master for Glacial Sand and Gravel and Rosepoint Sand and Gravel. In earlier years, he had worked for Rockwell International. Roger was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished the times he spent with his family. In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his three children, Carly R. Bartle and husband Robert of Ashburn, VA; Roger A. Monaco of New Castle; Amanda L. Monaco of New Castle; one brother, Dan Monaco and wife Karen of New Castle; two sisters, Barbara Kordish, Marguerite Mooney, both of New Castle; and his granddaughter, Camryn. Visitation is Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11AM officiated by his brother-in-law, Pastor Tim Klein of Solid Rock Ministries. Burial will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will provide military honors at the cemetery.
