Louis A. Zambelli, Sr., 88, of Neshannock Township passed away the evening of February 18, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 15, 1926 in New Castle and was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Tuscano Zambelli. On February 18, 1950 he married his wife, the former Diana F. Ferri. She preceded him in death January 13, 2007. Mr. Zambelli proudly spent his entire working career with the family business, Zambelli Fireworks. He was a master pyrotechnician who was also involved in the manufacturing and making of the fireworks. His profession started in May 1946 until his retirement in December 2013. At the end of his career he worked as a consultant for the company. His line of business took him all over the country and around the world twice which included some very special exhibits. Mr. Zambelli had the pleasure of putting on displays for seven of our U.S. Presidents as well as for Pope John Paul II. Louis was a United States Army veteran; serving in the European Theatre of World War II. He was a member of the 3rd company; serving under General Patton as his Mess Sergeant. Mr. Zambelli enjoyed yard work and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who’s greatest joy was the time spent with his family; especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Post #343, a member of St. Vitus Church and the church’s Holy Name Society. Louis is survived by two daughters, Linda Chrobak and husband Daniel and Gina Zambelli both of New Castle; one son Louis A. Zambelli, Jr. and wife Connie of Rochester, NY and five grandchildren, Danielle Patton and husband Michael, Brian Chrobak, Louis A. Zambelli III, Dominic Zambelli and Mariel Zambelli. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carmen Zambelli, Joseph Zambelli and George Zambelli and three sisters, Rita Irace, Concetta Tommelleo and Annabelle Angelucci. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Sunday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Father Nicholas Vaskov on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Vitus Church. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15 AM for church. Entombment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Monday at the cemetery.
