Alfred J. Thomas, 80, of Williams St. passed away the morning of August 27, 2013 at Jameson Hospital.
Born in New Castle on October 19, 1932, Alfred is the son of the late Gerwin, Sr. and Rose Nemeth Thomas. Surviving at home is his wife, the former Lucy Jean Chirumbolo, whom he married on September 7, 1957.
Alfred was a U. S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean Conflict as a boatswain’s mate 3rd class.
Alfred had worked as a machinist for Mesta Machine for nearly twenty years and then had worked for R&H Plumbing until his retirement. Alfred was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed gardening, flea markets and spending time with his friends at McDonald’s. Alfred was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, Alfred is survived by his two children, Thomas Lee Thomas and his wife Debbie, John Alfred Thomas and his wife Carol, both of New Castle; his sister, Marilyn Senchak of New Castle; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerwin Thomas, Jr., James (Jay) Thomas and his sister, Anna Flemming.
Following his wishes, there are no calling hours. A private Blessing Service will be held at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. officiated by Rev. Father William Siple of St. Vitus Church. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
