Donald J. Conti, 80, of Smyrna, Delaware died Monday, August 5, 2013 in Delaware.
He was born August 30, 1932 in New Castle, Pa., a son of Laurence and Ann Jasen Conti. He is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, the former Angela Jean Esposito.
Don was a railroader who began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, and Conrail. He retired as Superintendant of Transportation for both East and West Coasts Divisions of Amtrak. Following retirement he became Chairman of New Castle Pa. Area Transit Authority where many new transit programs were initiated. Don was also a funeral attendant at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home.
A member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church of Smyrna, Don was a U.S.Army veteran of the Korean War. Don was an active member of the Masons. In Smyrna he was a member of Harmony Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M. and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Bradywine Forest No. 20, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. His memberships also included the American Legion, Italian American War Veterans and the Slovak Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters,Charlene Bell, Lauren Rose and husband Michael; Donna Jean Rose, Bernice Davis and husband Patrick; one son, Ralph Conti and wife Lisa, along with sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Laurence Conti; mother, Ann Jasen Conti Felici; stepfather, Ernest Felici, and brother, Larry Conti.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10AM to 11AM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.
A Blessing Service will be at 11AM conducted by Rev. Father Frank Almade, pastor of St. Vitus Church. Burial will follow in St. Vitus Cemetery.
