Nick Allegro, Sr., 86, of New Castle, PA and Bethel Park, PA passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Mt. Lebanon, PA after an extended illness. He was born August 22, 1926 in New Castle, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Allegro. He was married for 56 years to the late Christine (DelSignore) Allegro. Mr. Allegro was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church and its Holy Name Society. He was very active at church most of his life doing whatever was needed, from calling bingo to building booths for the bazaar. He was a US Army Intelligence Officer during World War II, and retired from Rockwell’s Axle Division after 40 years of work. He enjoyed coaching and attending softball and baseball games for his children and grandchildren, and was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan. Nick lived with his daughter’s family after his wife passed in 2007 and then in assisted living for the last few months. He was the kind of man who would do anything to help anyone at anytime, and will be dearly missed by many whose lives he touched. Heartfelt thanks to Debbie and the Asera Care hospice team, and the staffs of Mt. Lebanon Golden Living and Washington Commons, for their compassion, care and assistance. Nick is survived by his daughter, Susan Trozzo and her husband William of Bethel Park, PA; son, Nick Allegro, Jr. of New Castle; brother, Anthony (Pooch) Allegro and his wife Dolly; sister-in-law, Alice Merolillo of New Castle; grandchildren: Shannon, Stephanie, Christina and Sally, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Emery; two brothers, Tom and Merle Allegro, and three sisters, Mary Dudek, Annie Fragle and Rose Papa. Visitation will be Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM and Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1111 South Cascade Street, New Castle. A procession will leave the funeral home at 1:30 PM for church. Reverend Father James Downs will officiate. Interment will be in Parkside Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Sunday at 3:45 PM at the fuenral home.
