Michael Cioppa

Michael J. Coppa, 89, of Meadowview Blvd., formerly of Lutton St. passed away the evening of June 19, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born on March 29, 1924 in Herkimer, N.Y., Michael was the son of the late Louis and Louise Cioppa. Surviving is his wife, the former Margaret Ezzo, whom he married on May 10, 1952.

Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII. Michael was a devoted member of St. Vitus Church and the Holy Name Society of the church where he was named Father of the Year. He had served on the first Parish council and had also served as president of the Parent-Teacher Guild. He volunteered annually at the St. Vitus Bazaar and golfed and bowled with the Parish’s leagues. Michael owned and operated the Croton Cafe from 1978 to the time he retired in 1985. He had worked for the Johnson Bronze Company as a machine operator for thirty six years and also worked for Casalandra Metal Stamping. Known for his wit and humor, he loved gardening, golfing and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He cherished the times he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Margaret, three children, Michael Cioppa and his wife Betty Ann of New Castle; Cynthia Pagliaroli of Hermitage; Amy Rich and her husband Ralph of Hubbard, OH; his brother, Pat Cioppa and his wife Rose Marie of New Castle; two sisters, Mary Curry, Angie Dess and her husband Chuck, both of New Castle; and his five grandchildren, Christina Cioppa, Anna Marie Cioppa, Tony Pagliaroli, Ralph Rich, and Andrew Rich. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother.

Visitation is Sunday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Monday at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM. Rev. Father Nicholas Vaskov of St. Vitus Church will officiate.

Interment will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
