John N. Ferry, 73, of Highland Terrace Apartments passed away the morning of May 31, 2013 at the Avalon Nursing Center.
Born in New Castle on May 22, 1940, John was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Stafford Ferry. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Eleanor Leonhardt Show who he married on December 5, 2000.
John had worked at Babcock and Wilcox Steel Mill as a mill worker. He was also the former owner of the Boron Gas Station on Highland Ave. and during his retirement, John enjoyed selling NASCAR memorabilia. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. He was a avid Pittsburgh sports fan and loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and NASCAR. He cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his children, John J. Ferry and his wife Helen; Amy Strobel and her husband William, both of New Castle; his sister, Esther Wheale and her husband Wesley of Rehoboth, DE; his former wife, Carol Ferry of New Castle and four grandchildren, David Ferry, Nicole Ferry, Zachary Strobel and Zayne Strobel.
In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by his three brothers, Michael, Charles and Robert Ferry.
Visitation is Monday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10AM at the funeral home by Pastor James Hockenberry of Harmony Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
