James V. Latess, Sr., 91, of Harbor Edinburg Rd. passed away the evening of May 1, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on January 30, 1922, James was the son of the late John and Lillian Tesone Latess. Preceding him in death on December 8, 2004 is his wife, the former Mary A. DiMatteo who he married on November 25, 1948. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. James was a WWII Army veteran serving at Pearl Harbor. James retired from Sharon Steel where he worked as a millwright for over thirty years. He enjoyed cooking and gardening. He is survived by his five children, Diann Pitzer and her husband Don of New Castle; James Latess, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Edinburg; Rita Bartholomew and her husband Jeffrey of Edinburg; John Latess of Stafford, VA; Angie Latess of Hopewell, PA; two sisters, Betty Steve, Helen Galiano, both of New Castle; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents and wife, James is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Latess and two sisters, Mary Jane Courtright and Ida Bonfield. Visitation is Saturday from 10AM to 12Noon at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 12Noon officiated by Deacon John Carran. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
