Josephine Fundoots

Former New Castle resident, Josephine Fundoots, 99, of S. Main St. passed away the morning of March 24, 2013 at her residence in Munroe Falls, Ohio. Born in Rochester, Pa. on September 17, 1913, Josephine was the daughter of the late John Solomon Buzari and Rahme Haddad Solomon. Preceding her in death on April 16, 1999 is her husband, Andy Fundoots. She was a former member of St. Elias Orthodox Church in New Castle and a member of St. George Orthodox Church of Akron, Ohio. During WWII, Josephine worked as a Rosie The Riveter at Sharon Steel. Josephine retired at the age of 91 from Challenges where she worked as an Older Workers Employment Specialist. In 2004, she received the Gold and Silver Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the Governor’s Achievement Award, also from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. Josephine also received the Experience Works Pennsylvania Senior Employee of the Year award in 2004. Josephine was known for being dressed to the nines in designers clothes, makeup and high heels. She believed all women needed to be strong and independent. Josephine was an avid walker, enjoyed working crossword puzzles and cherished the times she spent with her family and friends. She is survived by her six daughters, Jean Nevotne and her husband Ed of New Castle; Mary ‘Tootsie’ Hartzel and her husband Donald of Wampum, Pa; Joyce Allen of Waynesboro, VA; Eleanor Kendall and her husband James of Conway, SC; Jackie Johns and her husband Richard of New Castle; Sherry Vitone and her husband Patrick of Kent, OH; twenty one grandchildren, LouAnn, Annette, Linda, Frank, Dan, Linda Rae, Diana, Bobby, Paula, Sahra, Francesco, Andreas, Nico, Carol Ann, Elizabeth, Sam, Warren, Jamie, Jason, Dawn, Jodi, thirty six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine is preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Rae Sibeto, three brothers, Samuel Solomon, Phillip Solomon and Mitchell Solomon and her sister, Sally Moses. Visitation is Thursday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday at 11AM at St. Elias Orthodox Church officiated by Rev. Father Kevin Long, Archpriest of St. Elias Orthodox Church and Rev. Chris Davis. Burial will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
