Samuel A. Mooney, 92, of Countyline Rd. passed away the morning of February 8, 2013 at his residence. Born in New Castle on January 12, 1921, Samuel is the son of the late Anthony and Louise Molinaro Mooney. Preceding him in death on February 17, 1986, is his wife the former Laura J. Stone who he married on October 12, 1946. Samuel was a member of St. Vitus Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Samuel retired from Lightning Express as an mechanic. Following retirement, he had worked at J&F Alignment. Samuel was a sports fanatic and enjoying watching all types of sports. Samuel was a kind hearted and caring husband, father and grandfather whose greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his daughter, Dottie Cook and her husband James of New Castle; one brother, Carl Mooney; two grandchildren, Ashley and Marcus and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Samuel is preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Pagley, Mary Carney, Gladys Sipe and five brothers, Joseph, Charles, James, Edward and Michael Mooney. Visitation is Sunday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Monday morning at 9:30AM for St. Vitus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Rev. Father Nicholas Vaskov of St. Vitus Church will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
