John DeAngelis

John L. DeAngelis, Sr. formerly of Elizabeth Street and Meadowview Boulevard, went to be with the Lord in his sleep on October 17, 2015 at the Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Wilmington. Born on January 9, 1924 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of Andrew and Mary (Ross) DeAngelis. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Alice (Viviano) DeAngelis, whom he married on September 15, 1947. He attended Youngstown State and Penn State Universities. John served as a sergeant during World War II with a tour of duty that included Italy and Algeria. He retired from Herr-Voss Corporation in Callery, PA in 1986 where he was the Manager of Sales and Service. John was active in Neshannock Township affairs, including service on the zoning board and president of the Boosters Club. He was also a member of ITAM and the American Legion. He loved to sing and had been a member of St. Mary and St. Camillus Churches choirs. He also served as president of the New Castle chapter of the Wolves Club. In his younger days John was a member of the American Legion Band. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margaret Giancola. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by sons John DeAngelis and his wife Fran of Palm Bay, FL and Ron DeAngelis and his wife Dorothy of Butler, PA. He was known as Papa to his four grandchildren, Kristen, Christopher, Brian, and Kara, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Blessing services will be conducted Friday at 1:00pm at the funeral home, officiated by Father Michael Peck. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery.
