Raymond E. Stroud, 83, of New Castle passed away the morning of December 8, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born in Lakin, KS on September 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Alva and Nadine Irene Keener Stroud. Surviving him at home is his beloved wife of 57 years, the former Mary Lee Russ, whom he married on June 29, 1957. Raymond retired from his job as a machinist and fitter for Mesta Machine Corporation. He also previously served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era. Raymond was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and, in earlier years, water skiing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his children, Christine Newman and husband Tom of Gloucester, VA and Janet Stroud of Long Beach, CA; brothers, Ernest Stroud of Colorado and Donald Stroud of Texas; grandchild, Frank Newman and wife Jamie; and great-grandchild, Nicholas Newman. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiated by Bishop Campbell. Interment will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
