A lifelong New Castle resident Antonette Conti, formerly of Grandview Avenue in Union Township, passed away August 1, 2014 on her 99th birthday. She was currently a resident of the Haven Convalescent Home where she had resided since November of 2009. Born on August 1, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Mastropietro. She had been blessed with a wonderful marriage of 69 years to Charles D. Conti, whom she married on August 5, 1939. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2008. A graduate of New Castle High School Class of 1933, Antonette also worked as a seamstress at the National Pants Factory and then as a bookkeeper for the family business Conti Construction Company. A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong member of St. Vitus Church and instilled in her family a deep faith that allows them to believe she now resides with our Heavenly Father. As a member of St. Vitus Parish, she worked diligently at their many social functions and held office in the Christian Mothers organization. She also held office and was an active member in the Homemakers Club and the Oakwood Garden Club of Union Township. She knew and could name every flower in God’s garden. Antonette is survived by two daughters, two sons, and their spouses: Franceen and Mike Russo, Joan and Victor Son, Charles and Marianne Gumienny Conti, and Richard and Maureen Conti. In addition to her daughters and sons, she is survived by a loving sister-in-law, Ann Mastropietro, who was married to Antonette’s brother, Daniel, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were three brothers and their spouses, James and Helen Mastropietro, Daniel Mastropietro, and Domenick and Gloria Mastropietro. Our mother will be greatly missed and forever remembered for her kindness, love, and compassion shown to all who knew her. Never an unkind word left her lips and she always looked for the best in people. This prompted one special friend of hers, Pat Passerrello, to refer to her as St. Ann. The family will forever be indebted to the Haven Convalescent Home, Mark Tanner, his family, and their devoted staff for all of the love and compassion shown while our mother resided there. They made our mother and family a part of their family. Friends may call from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Vitus Church, co-celebrated by Father Michael Ackerman and Father Frank Mitolo, cousin of Antonette. Interment will take place at St. Vitus Cemetery.
