George Polansky

George E. Polansky, 81, of Hollow Rd, New Castle, went to be with the Lord on the evening of July 1, 2014 at Butler V.A. Born on December 22, 1932 in New Castle, he was a son of the late Steve and Stella Briggs Polansky. He had been married to the former Erma Pennington who passed away in March of 1989. He married the former Polly Ann Novotne on September 29, 1990. She survives. An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War during the Berlin airlift. Mr. Polansky had been with the New Castle Police Department for 26 years, retiring in 1983. He had been one of the first to have had and trained his police dog, Phyco. He had also worked on burglary detail and narcotics division for a time. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He also received various awards, such as the American Legion Certificate of Commendation. Mr. Polansky enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He faithfully attended the Park Gate Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Steve Polansky of Tupelo, MS; a daughter, Stacy Richards and husband Richard of New Castle; two step-daughters, Tammy Novotne and husband Hatem Kaseb of Pittsburgh, PA and Jody Hawes and husband Andrew of Austin, TX; sisters, Eleanor Kerr and Jean Sherbak, both of New Castle; grandchildren, Brian Richards, Holly Richards, and Josiah Hawes; two step-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter, AuBree Reeg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Polansky and Paul Polansky, and grandchild, Infant John Richards. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites Thursday at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00am at Park Gate Baptist Church 2840 River Rd, Ellwood City, PA, officiated by Rev. David Childs, pastor of Park Gate Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
