A. Anthony (Tony) Rich, 102, formerly of N. Beaver Street passed away the evening of May 24, 2014 in the Avalon Nursing Center. He was born April 15, 1912 in Leetonia, PA and was the son of the late Alexander and Assunta Penna Rich. On June 19, 1947 he married his wife the former Kathryn Schuffert. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2006. Mr. Rich managed and operated the Pennzoil Gas Station on the corner of Mill Street and Falls Street. He was a United States Air Force veteran, 13th Air Division; serving in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He enjoyed gardening, was a baseball and avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and he was also a fan of boxing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who’s greatest joy was the time spent with his family. He was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish and served as an usher for many years for St. Mary’s Church. Mr. Rich is survived by his son, Robert Rich and wife Mary Ann of New Castle; a granddaughter, Joanna Rich and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Rich. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Rich and Barney Rich and three sisters, Mary Rich, Florence Rich and Rose Rich. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3000 Wilmington Road. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated by Father William Siple on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM for church. Interment will be in Parkside Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard Wednesday morning at the cemetery.
