Mary Whiteman

Mary A. Whiteman, 90, formerly of W. Meyer Ave passed away the evening of April 1, 2014 at Haven Convalescent Home. She was born on January 10, 1924 to John and Mary Staransky Stofcik in New Castle, PA. She married her loving husband, Wilbur F. Whiteman, and the two spent 62 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death on November 29, 2009. Mary lived in Detroit, MI out of high school at Briggs Corp making airplane parts. She met her wonderful husband and father of their children-Wilbur. They worked together all their lives starting with Parkstown Drive-In-Theatre. They owned the Calls Plaza Isaly’s, the Lawrence Village Dairy Queen, and two laundromats. She was also a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Mary loved traveling and taking her grandchildren to many different places. She also enjoyed participating in several dance competitions with her husband. She was a devoted, loving, and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She will finally be reunited with her one true love. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Ricky Macri; grandchildren, Justin of Seattle, WA and Jordan of New Castle; sister, Dorothy Skufca of Ohio; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Whiteman of New Castle. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her son, James Lee Whiteman; brother, John (Herky) Stofcik; sister, Irene Bloise; and twin brother and sister who passed at birth. At Mary’s request, there were no calling hours, and a private service was held at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St, conducted by Rev. William Siple of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Burial took place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be offered in Mary’s honor to Jameson Hospice 1000 South Mercer Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
