Eileen Meehan

Eileen H. Meehan, 84 of New Castle, PA and Naples, FL passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 surrounded by her four loving children. Eileen was born on March 27, 1929 in New Castle, PA. She was the daughter of Marin L. and Alice McCormick Haney. Her father preceded her in death on July 29, 1989 and her mother on February 14, 2004. She married John A. Meehan, Jr. on June 25, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1984. Eileen was the proprietor of the Eileen Meehan Beautique, dress and beauty salon, for over 40 years. She and her husband John also owned and operated the Meehan Funeral Home in New Castle. She continued to operate the funeral home for 21 years after his death. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle, PA and St. William Parish in Naples, FL She was actively involved in the community serving on numerous fund raising efforts for local charities and endowments. She was committed to the preservation of the historical district of New Castle with great efforts to maintain the Meehan Family homestead on Lincoln Avenue. She was a member of the New Castle County Club and enjoyed her dual residence in Naples, FL for the past 35 years. Throughout her life, she was always accompanied by her Maltese dogs whom all had a special place in her heart, most recently her beloved Moira. She is survived by her children, John A. Meehan III of Reston, VA, James T. Meehan of Naples, FL and New Castle, Terence P. Meehan of New Castle, and Patricia E. (Dennis) Mehegan of Oak Hill, VA and her adoring grandchildren, Mary Kate, Meredith and Jack Mehegan. She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph M. Haney of Pulaski, Edward L. (Patricia) Haney, and Kenneth P. (Bobbie) Haney, all of New Castle; sisters in-law, Anne Lynch Meehan of Naples, FL, Anne M. Talarico of Rochester, NY and Bonita Springs FL, and Judith M. (Robert) Standish of Flat Rock, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Kathaleen Proch and Marjorie Jenkins; mother and father-in-law, Dr. John and Elizabeth McKeever Meehan, and brother-in-law, Paul C. Meehan. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 2-8 pm at the Edward A. and Donald G. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 3000 Wilmington Road New Castle PA. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 10:30am for Mass of Christian burial which will be celebrated at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. Father Nicholas Vaskov of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish and Father Naos McCool of Duquesne University will concelebrate.
