Alfred D. Bucci, 91, of New Castle, PA passed away the afternoon of January 4, 2014 in Golden Hill Nursing Home.
He was born March 24, 1922 in New Castle and was the son of the late Michael and Florence Perfilio Bucci. He is survived by his loving wife, whom he married May 22, 1943, the former Madeline Minice.
In 1988 Mr. Bucci retired from the County of Lawrence where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a United States Army veteran; serving in World War II. He was a member of St. Vitus Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW Post #315. Alfred was an avid golfer and in earlier years an outstanding football player. He was New Castle High Schools first All State Player in football and was inducted into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 for his football accomplishments.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Thomasina Abdoe and husband Omar of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Diana Bucci of Williamsburg, VA; brother, Donald Bucci of Youngstown, OH; three grandchildren, Lisa Abdoe Reeping and husband Jeff, Scott Bucci and wife Melissa and Mark Bucci and wife Courtney and three great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bucci and three brothers, William Bucci, Henry Bucci and Arthur Bucci.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle, PA. A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 AM for a mass of christian burial to be celebrated by Father Nicholas Vaskov at 10:00 AM at St. Vitus Church, New Castle, PA. Interment will be in St. Vitus Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Wednesday morning at the funeral home at 9:15 AM.
