Joseph T. Zumpella, 97, of W. Cherry St, passed away the afternoon of November 9, 2013 at Jameson Hospital.
Born in New Castle on April 23, 1916, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Pasqualina Cea Zumpella. On July 21, 1938, he married the former Mary Frank, and the two spent many happy years together until she preceded him in death on January 30, 1997.
Joseph retired as car inspector for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Parish and the Holy Name Society of the Church. Joseph belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #512. He was also a member and officer of the former Christopher Columbus Society. An avid golfer, he was the treasurer for the Mohawk Senior Golf League for 25 years. Joseph also loved gardening.
Joseph is survived by his son, Clement Zumpella and wife Denise of Struthers, OH; sister, Connie Maiorano of New Castle; grandchildren, Lisa Jordan and husband John and Joseph Zumpella and wife Danielle; and great-grandson, Alexander Joseph Zumpella. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Clement, Michael, Frank, and Ernest Zumpella; and sister, Jennie Cenname.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4PM to 7PM at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Tuesday at St. Vincent dePaul Church, officiated by Fr. William Siple.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30AM.
Entombment will take place at Castleview Memorial Gardens.
