Henry A. Metz, 91, of Church Alley, New Castle passed away the evening of December 13, 2012 in Silver Oaks Nursing Center. He was born December 5, 1921 in Distant, PA and was the son of the late Peter C. and Maggie Downing Metz. He was preceded in death on January 6, 1994 by his wife, the former Gay L. Shanafelt. They were married on July 9, 1945. Mr. Metz retired from US Steel Corp where he worked as a burner. He was a United States Army veteran and served during World War II. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He is survived by three sons, Michael Metz of New Castle, Phillip Metz of Youngstown and Dan Metz of Bradenton, FL; one daughter, Joy Mislevy and husband Larry of Canton, MI; one brother, Rosco Metz of Duquesne; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, David Metz; three brothers, Charles Metz, James W. Metz and Floyd Metz and three sisters, Bess Johnson, Mae Johnson and Helen Davis. There will be no calling hours and services are private. Arrangements by the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street.
