Valentino Carkitto, 82, passed away the morning of December 11, 2012 at his residence in New Castle. Born in New Castle on May 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Antonia DiMasi Carkitto. Preceding him in death on October 30, 1996 is his wife, the former Jean Shornack who he married July 30, 1950. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during the Korean War Era. Valentino retired as a self-employed auto mechanic. He had also worked as a salesman for Cummings and Bricker Farm Equipment. He is survived by two daughters, Chris LaCivita and husband Anthony of New Castle; Linda Banko of New Castle; two sons, John Carkitto and wife Melissa of Rock Hill, SC; Michael Carkitto and wife Jill of Long Valley, NJ; one brother, Lou Carkitto of New Castle; three sisters, Stella Richards of New Castle; Yolanda DiRaimo of Erie, Pa; Joanne Candiello of Cranberry, Pa and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Valentino is preceded in death by one sister, Mary DiMuccio. Visitation is Thursday from 5PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A Blessing Service will be held at 11AM on Friday at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Father Nicholas Vaskov. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the cemetery.
